I agree, I really liked his acting in UWMA, that's why I'm thinking here it might be the character direction too. But who knows, maybe its just easier for him to play a character who's normally cold than one who's overly sweet like Nubsib is.

If this series pulls a YYY and reveals Nubsib's an alien, I honestly won't be surprised lol. I don't know if it's intentional or just weird directing/acting, but sometimes Nubsib just doesn't seem like a person to me? More a caricature of one.

Anyways, this episode was kind of confusing, and I really want to know if there's more to Gene's reaction than meets the eye or not. I mean I understand he's an introvert and also really defensive, but it just seemed like he was really overreacting. Also, I kinda hate the bad communication trope. I get it adds more drama but it's so frustrating, and this one was the worst I've seen. Like Nubisb could have literally recounted his whole life story in the 5 hours they spent staring at each other... honestly the whole scene just reminded me of how thankful I am for characters like Ae (LBC) and Vlad (GSP), who waste no time explaining themselves to avoid conflict.

Side note: Mork is so intriguing, I really want to see more of him. And Tum is a fashion icon.

The production quality is so pretty I really like it! Imo the story is going by a bit fast though and the scenes are really abrupt (I hope this was just done so they could introduce all the characters and plot they wanted in the first ep, and from now we slow down a bit). But so far it's interesting, and love all the actors.

Exactly, everyone is entitled to their opinions and as long as their not harmful it shouldn't be a problem. And it would be boring if we all thought the same anyways. Also same, sometimes I misunderstand due to cultural differences so its interesting to hear from other people.

I totally would as well. I don't like violence at all, I'd much rather someone defend me with words or a conversation if necessary. And jumping to violence or revenge straight away is sort of a red flag; I guess it makes the plot more dramatic though.
Yeah the different storylines definitely clash, honestly though I'm just glad the HIStory franchise didn't end because of all the controversy last year, so I'll watch no matter how weird it gets haha. I'm glad we think the same though; this feels like one of the calmest discussions in this comment section lol

That's true I didn't agree with Li Cheng successively punching him till he fell down. If they really had to have the fight it should have ended with one punch.

It still irks me that he doesn't think what he did was wrong though. I get him wanting to appease his brother and restore harmony, but I want him to take responsibility for his actions too. He does need to be treated with compassion but that doesn't mean I'll overlook that he needs to be compassionate to others as well. But yes since he has his own troubles, as of now that may be difficult, but as the series develops I hope his character does too.

Also it's important to note that he stated he will only apologise after they fight, even though Li Cheng conceded and said "one day they will fight fair and square". And Mu Ren was the one who stated "adults shouldn't be petty" and tried to help Yong Jie. So I don't see Mu Ren as the antagonist at all. Also I don't think Mu Ren was revelling in Yong Jie being beaten up, but the fact Li Cheng cares for him. But I get where you're coming from.

That's true he made somewhat of an attempt but I don't think he was sincere. He was clearly only doing it so his brother wouldn't be disappointed and he even stated so; which seeing as he's the one in the wrong, is ridiculous. I don't know I just feel like he lacks empathy with everyone but his brother, and I absolutely hate that trope. If they decide to go further and address mental health then that's different, but there's a difference between struggling with forming attachments with others and just being an ass; right now he simply seems like the latter. As their story develops I hope I can maybe understand and sympathise with his character more though. And yes I totally get the "fourth wall" thing; I wish they'd done it consistently from the start though because it felt so random. I can totally see them dropping it with no explanation too.

I agree the two contrasting storylines seem so weird to put together. If the show was focused on one of the couples ie the brothers, I think I'd have less of a problem with how complex they are. But I feel like there won't be proper character resolution because they keep trying to switch between these two opposing plots

Thoughts so far: this series is somehow better and worse than I anticipated.

Although it isn't ideal, the fujoshi storyline doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would (except for when Mei Fang takes photos of them *eyeroll*). The main cp are cute and I can see something there. But the step-brothers... I don't think I'll be able to support them ever... Even if we put the incest and I guess age difference aside, the younger brother is just not it. Especially after what he did this episode. And he really had the audacity to not apologise. Also Li Cheng keeps looking at the camera... why?

Overall though I somewhat like the show so far, its kind of funny and lighthearted everytime that one brother isn't on the screen. I think if you don't compare it to the HIStory 3's and don't take it too seriously its way more enjoyable.

I'm pretty sure that's purposefully done as a lot of this series is a parody. So either she is a parody of the typical overzealous fujoshi type characters in bl's or she's a parody of a real person in the industry and its shade. Either way I don't think she's meant to feel normal or natural, because a lot of what she pushes gene to do/write is what's under criticism in the show. Her weirdness kind of emphasises the absurdity of some of her requests. At least that's how I see it
