emperor is not dumb or his mothers puppet.. he understands her ambitions and doesnt seem to support them irrespective of whether it favors him. he seem a realist and reasonable ruler, trying to do his best given his personal conditions and available options.. he realises he needs ML to protect the realm and SML to rule the country post his demise. ..so inspite his mother's machinations he is trying to protect both.. very refreshing to see an emperor who really cares.. sad , he wasnt healthy enough to rule himself
so FL and SML are not half brother sisters.. wonder what happened there.. how come FLs parents married. it is confirmed she is not daughter of grand tutor.. so were they also married due to some imperial edict against their wishes.. and was empress An the lady grand tutor loved ...and who was father of FL
wonder what is queen dowager intention in invitimg FL to a banquet and interrogating about her life up the mountain..she seem to be genuily shook hearing about her mothers death..surprisingly none from her ye family asked about her mpther and she didnt tell anyone about her death
i wonder why would ML thinks his handicappedness comes in the way of their married life.... he seem to have developed some feelings for FL... and would have liked to take it forward...and seem to hesitate due to his leg

FL was the only student left on the mountain when she left it... none of the students or teachers survived.... suppression by dowager queen i dont think queen dowager knows she caused death of linshen academy scholars.. she may have resented them, hated them for not approving her ruling as a regent.. she may have used the maquis 's hand (????) to supress them.. but he may have gone overboard and may have killed them all or most because most of the officials then were from linshan academey.... why i think so... 1. in her dream in the 1st 5 mins of drama , FL was the only one in that scene and she is trying to survive from a hoard of monkeys (her surroundings seem like abandoned .old place...)).. monkeys would not have been soo bold if there were people...2. she was dirt poor when she came down the mountain , and had to borrow money from the guards to travel back home... 3. her mother and her maid are dead,,,, and seems some dark horror is there in their deaths.. 4. she seem to weave tales about her time on the mountain...

yes , deserve better ratings but.. i feel the 1st 2 episodes could have been handled better .. i love the cast , and story seem to have depth....but screen play felt rushed. ..took me sometime to understand whats going on

some one explain to me whats so great or attractive about FL's father.... Both ladies (FL's mother) and the concubine song claim to have married against their familys wishes... BOTH..... atleast FL's mother comes across as mature and sensible ..how could he convince (more like FOOL )both reasonable smart and mature ladies to marry him , against their family's wishes
I don’t think I can ever tolerate the FL. I tried watching twice! I was turned off by both the character’s…
the novel had immense potential.. this could have been a great series if they casted an actress with better chemistry with ML or someone who is tolerable despite irritable characterization.... i understand the FL's character in novel - but here the casted actress makes it more unbearable though i understand why she acts the way she does.. my peeve with the story was ML does so much , FL does nothing ... this has been the case of many series in chinese industry ...a very busy and very succeessful ML will do every thing for FL...including cooking...and FL's does nothing.. not sure if this is healthy portreyal either.. show both as equals sharing equal responsibility like adults ..not one as child/childlike and other all responsibility taker... this will build unreasonable expectations on women... and not true representation
