I could see XL being a close second. But I think she only ever sees him as her best friend. He’s always around and comes to rescue her. Spends time with her and doesn’t impose on her freedom. I would say there’s no person he cares about more than her but he has a sense of filial piety to the general that raised him and loyalty to his army so he chooses to die with them.

I feel like no xianxia drama is complete unless the ML tries to die with the FL
