Just finished watching the first episode. So far I am immersed to the story and I'm already rooting for Tae Jung to take revenge against the ones who wronged him. The episodes are short so I will most likely binge watch the rest.
I really like the way Choi Sung Eun and Lee Jae Wook use their eyes. You can see the yearning and love they hold for each other, especially from Do Ha.
I know that some people are upset that Tae Poong didn't stand up for Mi Seon but we need to take into consideration the dynamics and the time period.
Tae Poon might be Typhoon Trading's CEO but Ma Jin is still his senior. If he acted harshly, he could offend him, which is the last thing he wants right now, since the company needs an experienced trader with connections. Besides, a boss's job is not to guard the employees and scold them like children. The matter between Mi Seon and Ma Jin cannot be solved with Tae Poong's intervation. Unfortunately, you cannot fight sexism with mere words, even if it comes from a higher up, if someone has adopted a sexist ideology, it's going to be hard to make them change it. Tae Poong tried to make Ma Jin address Mi Seon with respect and yet Ma Jin ignored him.
And as I already mentioned above, Ma Jin is older than Tae Poong, therefore it's not easy for someone younger to stand up against an older person, especially if he has been raised to respect the elders. I think that in the next episode we might see more of Tae Poong supporting Mi Seon, especially if he'll learn the truth about the bribery.
Edit: Forgot to add this: Tae Poong not standing up for Mi Seon is essential for her development. I'm sick and tired of the trope "man protects a girl who's a damsel in distress". Mi Seon is insecure and Tae Poong knows it. He doesn't want to treat her as if she's weak. He wants to make her stand up for herself instead of staying quiet. And that's more important than him being her knight of shining armor. He'll always be there to cheer her up but there are some battles she needs to face alone.
The side couple has won me over, their relationship went from 0 to 100 in just a few episodes but I don't complain, they are cute and their interactions are really fun to see.
The stability in Korea's ratings is so positive to see. Even though this drama has a popular cast, I can understand that this plot might not be easily digestible for everyone. Older audiences might not feel comfortable watching a drama about the crisis, especially if they experienced it first-hand while younger audiences might not resonate with it. But so far the ratings are very good and the response is more than positive. Let's hope that the drama will increase its numbers and that more international people will join, too!
The first episode was interesting enough, I already like the chemistry between Choi Sung Eun and Lee Jae Wook and I am very curious to learn more about Do Ha and Ha Gyeong's fallout.
What an amazing episode! Things are going better for Tae Poong and the company and the previous employees will most likely return. The ending left me with a smile splattered on my face and a very positive feeling.
Once again, Typhoon Family showcased how difficult the crisis was in Korea and the effect it had on people. The montage of the employees' lives and them trying to survive another day, accompanied by Tae Poong's narration was one of my most favourite scenes. People dealt with so many hardships, they saw their lives shattering before their eyes and the only thing they wanted was for them to live for one more day.
But despite the bleak circumstances, not everything is lost. As stated by the episode's title, the meaning of life is not money, power or fame. It's about surrounding yourself with people whom you care about and to whom you can rely on. Tae Poong himself realised that. He has Mi Seon, his mother, his friends and his employees. As long as he has them, he will be fine.
I am heavily rooting for Tae Poong and Typhoon Trading. I am looking forward to see what the second half will be like. Typhoon Family is seriously becoming one of my most favourite dramas and I hope that will not change.
I can't believe that tomorrow the first half will be finished. Time passed by so quickly, it feels like I watched the first episode last week. The pacing is very good so far!
