Recently this happened with a sign of affection, their fandom went bonkers. I got headache watching that I dropped it at 4 idk how some enjoyed out of guilty pleasure.
"Damsel in distress and her 4 knights in shining Armor"
Talk about double standards, if this is done with narrative from male gaze (harem) it will considered as toxic infact it is, at the same time if the narrative is done with female gaze (reverse harem) it will be normalized especially in kdramas.

As per Japanese/otaku culture harem/reverse definitely is toxic regardless of the gender but harem genre recieves the most hate because of regular trope of tsundere male lead and air head female lead. But since it's a kdrama I'm sure they will water it down and make it fluffy-puffy and deliver it to respective target audience.

With a premise like this if it was a j-drama it will instantly get tanked and will be called "toxic" with negative reviews but since this is a kdrama most people wouldn't mind and will find this fluffy-puffy with positive reviews.
