Well, I see we are up to 8.2 with now 257 users. I may be wrong, and it is just my guess but as the number goes up those stupid 63 users yesterday who tried to tank this will be forgotten! By the time we get to a few thousand users, if this Drama keeps the quality of these first few episodes, I bet we will be above 8.5.
For me, The Legend of Shen Li, is at least as good as, if not better than the last mega wuxia hit -- Love Between Fairy and Devil.
The rating needs to be ignored. Why? Because it is ludicrous. This drama has the hottest opening in the history of the Tencent heat index -- in less than three hours it rose to 28000. To put this into perspective Love You Love My Voice toped out at 26000 and Amidst a Snow Strom of Love toped out at 28000 after about a week of episodes. On Viki it currently is at 9.7. The so called 64 users who have come up with this score must be Zhao Liying haters! That is the only believable explanation.
By the above picture it seems to me that Bibi is not the young daughter type, but the wild side type. Oh Yeju, must be the daughter. Looking forward to this one -- a good thriller with good visuals. Glad to see Oh Yeju in a new type of role where she get to take off her Hanbok and look more like the official muse of Maybelline which she has been for over a year. mydramalist.com/photos/Bd30rV_3
I agree with Dramabeans (a top site to watch episode online with subtitles) review of this drama. Here is just a part:
"Where do I even begin to express my adoration for what has been one of the most consistent dramas this year? The Matchmakers started out great, had an excellent progression, and stuck the landing. I’m so delighted our OTP got their happily ever after because there’s no one more deserving of it than they are. I liked that the drama respected the relationship they had with their late spouses, and still delivered on a solid second-chance romance between them. The story didn’t even have to jump through hoops to give them a beautiful ending because the foundation for that had already been laid out.
If I had to describe this drama with a word, it’d be “intentional.” This is a well-crafted show with thoughtful writing and plot points that served the story, nuanced characters driven by believable motivations — including prince Jin-sung, whose existence felt real even though he didn’t have a physical presence in the show. Seriously, I can almost picture him in my head. And the cinematography? Chef’s kiss! Every shot was deliberate, and every scene told a story. You could literally just pause at any point to take in the scenery, and it feels like you’re right there in Joseon breathing the same air."
If I was going to give this a score MDL style I would give it an 8.5.
You are comparing Satellite channel drama (TW - tvn) with cable channel / free channel dramas (TM and TSRG)...…
The only thing I am comparing are the Nielsen ratings and MDL ratings. So if I understand your contention, you are alleging that the Nielsen ratings are completely meaningless and bogus when it comes to TVN dramas? I respect your opinion but I just don't agree with it.
The final Korean ratings are in and TM finished with 5.8 -- episode 16 was the highest. It had an average of 4.2. To put this into context, it had higher rating than Twinkling Watermelon's 3.6 (9.2 on MDL) and The Secret Romantic Guesthouse which had 3.9 (8.1 on MDL). Let me be clear I loved all three dramas but I do think that both TSRG and TM deserved better from MDL.
Don't be surprised if TM is put on the whole world wide Netflix platform soon. Rowoon is one of their favorite's. And, importantly, I believe that we are going to see big things from Oh Yeju, Park Ji Won, and Jung Bo Min in the future. I believe that nice, well deserved, Female Leading roles are in their near future.
I wonder why are you trying way too hard to push a narrative that this was a very good show (when it wasn't) and…
My goodness, I really touched a nerve! I love a post that does that. Thank you!!! But please know this -- my post was simply reported stats -- that is just the Hard Truth.
Oh well, it is easy to see past the 7.8 on MDL. The Nielsen rating for episode 15 was 5.4 percent. It has been number one in it's time slot on Mondays and Tuesdays in Korea for weeks. Perhaps folks should remember that it always beat Twinkling Watermelons in the Korean ratings, even though TW had a 9.2 on MDL(the 9th highest score in MDL history) and even a 9.8 on Viki. I predict that soon it will be on the world wide Netflix platform. Right now it is only on Netflix in Korea. This is not to trash TW -- it was a very good D -- but to make the point that The Matchmakers is holding it's own.
I like her... I think she can also do a romance paired with the actor Choi Kyung Hoon who played her character's…
Yes, I agree. As I said above most likely won't happen. However ever since Under the Queen's Umbrella she has been on the radar for that role. In addition, in the modeling and advertising world she is very established. In Korea she is the face of Maybelline, Pocari Sweat, Alba Heaven and Project M female line of clothing. And remember, Yoon Eun-hye was a newly minted actress too, back then.
Call me stupid if you want but I believe that MBC has big things in store for Oh Yeju. First they had that televised interview with her back at the beginning of this D. Then for the last two weeks we have had her two part interview with Sisun News. In it she says that she would like to do a school drama and she would like to do a drama where she played a Princess who wants to "experience everything without being tied down with her status." The net is ablaze with the rumors that the auditions for Princess Hours remake have started. Both her and Moon Sangman (her CP in Under the Queen's Umbrella) are in that mix. Everyone wants that role, so chances are it won't happen. But you never know. But, in any event I expect that some kind of major role will be coming her way.
Folks, have no doubt this will be a happy ending. This is romantic comedy. Frankly it reminds me of Shakespeare's, A Midsummer Night's Dream -- minus the fairies. After all the sweetness and moonlight and chemistry, to make this a tragedy would be a criminal act. The Director knows that. He wants to do another drama.
I finally get Lady Park. Let me put it in Star Wars terms. The Force was strong in her. But when she married Jo Young Bae she was turned to the dark side and became a Sith!
Again folks got to just chill out about the marriage of CP. History is replete with both child brides and child grooms in royal families. Let me give you a couple of examples. Canute the 7th of Denmark was 13 when he married Gertrude of Bavaria who was 25 in 1171. But my favorite was Horikawa of Japan marrying his paternal Aunt Princess Tokushi who was 33 in 1093. You see, back then, pretty much everywhere it wasn't uncommon to do that. And the child brides who married adult grooms is even more common. The reason they did that was for political reasons. In this case the oldest sister is the one who saved the CP twice, he trusted her, the Empress and King knew that their son, whose life was in danger, would be safer with her. They were fated together, at this point, for just that reason. Can't people just get it through their heads that this Marriage won't be consummated until the appropriate time.
Frankly I suspect these posts are from folks who can't trash the drama itself because it is good. So they are left with this. Maybe they are anti fans of Rowoon? Who knows?
Just finished another two wonderful episodes of angst free drama. Yet, there is angst in another way. When will he kiss her again? How long do I have to wait to see her look at him with those doe eyes? This is what you call stress free angst and I love it! You see, before I started to watch this D, I just finished Marriage Revenge that was a makjang filled with lots of yelling, throwing stuff, and temper tantrums. So, this D is very healing.
The only question I have is can they see this through to the end. In Forever Love we had that stupid forced trip before they could get together. In My Hero she decided to go to the USA for two years. In Forever and Ever we had to have the one episode when Shi Yi was in a coma. And in when I Fly Towards You even though they were always strong together, they didn't officially become a couple until the 19th episode. Will this Director stay strong and just let us bask in the delightful romantic chemistry the MC has given us without something silly happening? I hope so. For me, this will be the difference between four stars or five stars for this drama.
People should just chill about the CP and the oldest Meng sister. In China, Korea, Japan, and Thailand there are plenty of dramas that have an older woman/younger man and female teacher/male students. And needless to say there are plenty of older men/younger woman themes. I am sure that she will become Crown Princess because she is the one who has protected him. The marriage itself won't be consummated until the appropriate time -- that has been obvious -- at least to me. After all the oldest sister is a proper woman who would make Confucius smile. That is her character.
This whimsical, light hearted, romance leaden, drama keeps on getting better with every episode! All the naysayers who posted during the first two episodes have been proven wrong! And what a great twist we have, the real matchmaker is the most angry man in Joseon.
More than that this drama is extremely easy on the eyes. Of course we can all see the visuals with the leads. Jung Bo Min as Sam Soon is simply adorable. Both Jung Shin Hye and Park Ji Won are beautiful. And as for Oh Yeju and as Jo Yejin, when you see her with her hair down -- well what can I say? If you take a Korean dictionary and look for the definition of beautiful, instead of words it would simply have a picture of Oh Yeju, And of course all of their future husbands go from ruggedly handsome to swoon worthy handsome -- but the female posters on this blog can talk about that.
