Title Until the T-Shirt Dries Spoiler
Can anyone share their thoughts on episode 9? ๐Ÿ˜† This show has turned out completely different to what I expected and I have been reflecting back on past episodes and seeing if there were signs that I missed.

So, Mitsuru and Sakiko agree to try again, but it's obvious that Sakiko isn't happy and she's already mentally checked out of the relationship. The hole in the filter at the end, was a sign for her to end it.

I think it's ironic that whilst Mitsuru's habit was to physically run away, Sakiko had a similar habit too, just manifesting in a different way. As we've discovered now in Sakiko's case, inevitably in all her relationships, she would over time, choose to emotionally distance herself and then eventually, end in a break up with her partner.

There were hints throughout the show, firstly when Itsuki asked if she still saw Mitsuru with rose tinted glasses, and her mentioning the glasses again to Mitsuru later on. And Chizuru saying that Sakiko gets bored and loses interest easily in things, as well as her ex husband saying that the old her would sprint away at the first sign of trouble.

It seems as though Sakiko has a history of seeing her partners through these rose tinted glasses, putting them on a pedestal and when reality hits or if something happens that challenges her idealised version of the partner, she mentally checks out and then bails. She would drop her mask and perhaps her previous ex husbands couldn't handle the sudden change, or perhaps she tries to get them to end the relationship... I'm not sure.

If Mitsuru didn't disappear first, it seems that Sakiko would keep being with him until something else happens that would ruin her idealised version of him. Mitsuru trying to keep everything clean, even though he said he's not that type of person, is trying his best to fit in with Sakiko's standard. She did also mention she had high standards for her partners and that's why it never worked out in her previous marriages.

Everything flipped for me in this episode. At first, I felt like Sakiko was the victim but now I feel that Mitsuru could also be a victim. Both of them, maybe to some extent were mirroring each other and It's just a matter of time which one would end up imploding first. It just turned out that Mitsuru ended up folding first.

I don't know whose problem is worse ๐Ÿ˜† I feel like both of them should end up alone.

It's so unexpected but I love the twist.

I haven't yet caught up to episode 7 but I think Mitsuru should end up alone and he shouldn't torture anyone else until he gets psychological help. I don't see any redeeming qualities about him as a partner, even his first impression was very off putting ๐Ÿ˜†There were already red flags earlier on, and Sakiko was too naive.

Getting answers out of this man just makes you want to tear your hair out ๐Ÿ˜† It's clear Mitsuru has pulled many disappearing acts throughout his life, and this isn't the first instance. Sakiko should have ditched him the first time he ghosted her.

He was selfish for marrying Sakiko, and now selfish for walking back in. The kindest act he can do at this point is divorce and leave... forever lol

That low score really surprised me. I thought Genius Girlfriend would be much better received domestically. The…
Apparently, there were quite a few organised haters down voting this drama early on, like minutes after the first episode was released ๐Ÿ˜†

I don't think douban ratings are reliable, seems like it's easily skewed by fan or anti fan votings lol

Except that this is not fully youth drama. So judging this drama from "high school drama" pov and expect…
I feel like if they got minors or barely legal adult actors to act in this, people would then be complaining that they look like kids pretending to be professionals and that they look too young to get married, in addition there will be a lack of intimate scenes, since the actors are young. There will be complaints about that too haha

Since they end the drama as mature adults, I think it's ok for them to play younger versions of themselves lol

Iโ€™m on ep 24 and I realized one of the ost is the same as the never ending summer one๐Ÿ˜ญ
The song played is not listed on the official playlist, but it does appear a few times! I love it so much... took me awhile to figure it out ๐Ÿ˜†

I haven't watched never ending summer, so I'm not sure but is it this one?

Feel like the last few episodes was rushed to wrap up and resolve the plotlines too conveniently. Overall pretty…
They used the same song in the earlier episodes too ... i think?? :)) the scene where lzx and jyb rode down the road brushing against the flowering trees. It's by the same artist on their ost playlist... I kept looking for it but couldn't find it on the ost ๐Ÿ˜† I'm so glad I discovered their songs through this show, their songs are a vibe.

I don't know what's going to happen later but Mitsuru is such a douchebag ๐Ÿ˜ก

I hate that Sakiko is too nice to him on the phone. He literally just ghosted her for a year and didn't even have the courage to give her answers... and even had the nerve to ask how she was doing and if she was well... what a heartless person. Even if he had his own problems, how could he blindside his wife, abandon her and leave her in the dark for so long? I don't think any kind of explanation later on could justify his actions. Even if he was deathly ill, it's still such a selfish thing to do to someone you claim you love. Urgh....

Some of the characters in this drama are lowkey annoying. I donโ€™t really understand the passive aggressive attitude…
I think the show gives us different perspectives, as a viewer, we are able to see everything that happens so it's easy for us to judge.

Itsuki assumed that he had a happy marriage until he learnt about how Asuza felt through the bookshop owner. The owner knows Asuza well and knew of her struggles to communicate and being heard by her husband, so perhaps he could see why she might have had an affair. I don't think he's saying it's right, just that because he knows her better, he could empathise with her actions.

On the other hand, it doesn't look like he knows Itsuki well enough and only knows of him through Asuza's account, so naturally he would be biased towards her and distrusting towards him. Same with the barista, he is closer to Mitsuru so he's more inclined to side with him.

It's just that these supporting characters already have an idealised image of who their friends are and they probably feel that it's wrong to continue to pursue the truth, if both Asuza and Mitsuru have already paid the price by losing their lives in the accident. They would prefer just to move on and let sleeping dogs lie.

everyone: "this drama lacks romance""the main leads doesn't have chemistry" blah blah just me…
Haha yes I actually find this "slow moving" friends to lovers story more romantic and genuine tbh.

I mean honestly how many dudes would help clean up their partners apartment and cook for them... unprompted ๐Ÿ˜† no offence to guys out there hahaha Jyb is teaching us what we should look for in a partner ๐Ÿ˜†

I just feel like nowadays we are so conditioned to seeing things happen so quickly that we fail to notice how special the little things are. I rather see these meaningful actions than big and intense expressions of love.

After GGF, I really hope to see tian xiwei in more modern dramas like lovely us and this one. I've missed seeing…
She's currently filming a modern, business war drama lol with wei da xun. She's going to play a wealthy heiress, I've seen spoiler pics of her outfits and she looks stunning ๐Ÿ˜

I actually think it would be realistic for Duan Qi and Ting Ting not to end together, because lbr, not everyone…
Agree, I feel like while they've got the spark and have the best time as friends, they're both fiery and also clash too much, they probably need a partner who's more patient and understanding.

I don't know why, but I absolutely adore this type of drama; if you know what I mean
I think it's a breath of fresh air, it's unlike a typical fast paced intense romance. I actually enjoying seeing that love doesn't mean it has to start with fireworks and burn brightly, the platonic friends to romantic partners seem a lot more realistic and romantic to me ๐Ÿ˜†

I think this show is great for people who prefer more realistic, grounded shows and have the patience and don't mind the slow burn. I actually really enjoy that ๐Ÿ˜†

Not gonna lie, the ML was so selfish when she was telling his about her problem, he didn't give a f*ck and dismissed…
Ultimately, after reading through so many comments I came to the conclusion that this drama just can't please everyone ๐Ÿ˜† from reading most of the negative feedback on chinese social media, it was clear that people were unhappy that the female lead isn't invincible and that she's not superwoman.

They were already so pissed that our male lead won the maths comp, because apparently this is supposed to be a strong female led drama and in the novel lin zhi xia never loses. So imagine if jiang yu bai took over the conversation and told her exactly what to do at work, despite not having uni experience, how bad the backlash would be ๐Ÿ˜†

Anyway that aside, I got the feeling from the gist of the convo between lzx and jyb is, lzx already knew what to do, she just needed some steering to see that she already had the solution. Jyb was just dropping hints so she could see it, without him directly telling her what to do. I don't think that's a bad thing at all, because he respects her enough to let her solve her own issues in her own way rather than telling her how to do things. After all she has a phd, and he probably thinks she has more experience. He hasn't been through uni or done any research projects with others, why should he be telling her what to do ๐Ÿ˜…

As a native mandarin speaker, I watched it without eng subtitles and I actually didn't get the feeling that he was being dismissive at all. I feel like the direct translation to eng sometimes distorts the feeling and vibe of the interaction lol He was listening to her the entire time, by getting her to hand him the tools and engaging her in what he's doing as well, he was getting her to feel and think calmly. I thought he was trying to trying to make a point that her feelings and mood are the most important here.

Anyway sorry for the long ass analysis ๐Ÿ˜†
