before anyone twists #zhaolusi’s words, or accuses her of not being offered scripts to push the “softban” narrative, i’d like to clarify this:
lusi reaching out to original writers, regardless of class or popularity, and offering collaboration, is genuinely a good thing. nowadays, many authors’ works are stolen by production companies. they buy the copyright, then hire another writer cheaply to finalise or change the story to fit their vision and market demand (which is why we see so many repetitive plots in cdramas lately).
this act disrespects the original author and their work. so her approach actually creates opportunities for people who’ve faced injustice, and for those whose work was hidden due to limited networking. this isn’t just about whether she was offered roles or good scripts. she was offered many during her hiatus, and choosing not to take some isn’t a bad thing. it shows she has a clear vision. she doesn’t accept everything blindly. she’s being more careful now. with her influence, she thinks about the long-term impact of the roles she takes on the audience, and that is very admirable. now, her vision focused on healing, female growth, etc (not merely to cater to the market).
her respect for her work as an artist is truly admirable!
the downside is only that public expectations will be higher for her screen comeback, but that’s a challenge she chose to take.
