Another (new) Korean drama that I stopped because it became boring due to the same stuff being repeated again…
I'm also having a really hard time sticking with any new kdrama recently, no matter the genre. They all just feel so boring. Honestly, I feel like kdramas just don't have any complex characters that you actually have to try to understand or characters that have personality flaws. Recent characters can really all be taken at face value. I think that's why I like Wonderfools so much (it's the first new drama in the past few years that I've actually pulled an all nighter for). Every single one of the main characters have their own flaws and struggles and it's just so nice to see that actual character development that you can resonate with.
I also tend to lean more towards the romance genre rather than action and it seems like that's kind of all that Korea is producing lately (action), so maybe that's also a reason why kdramas haven't been interesting to me.
Side note: I have been getting addicted to Cdramas though. There is such a wide range of themes even within the romance genre that you really never get board. Plus, because China's entertainment industry is so large they can just crank those dramas out like crazy.
This was shockingly good. I haven't been able to stick with any Kdramas for a while now, for some reason all of the recent kdramas are all just so boring, so I was really surprised that I ended up pulling an all nighter just to finish this drama.
What surprised me the most, and is what actually kept me engaged, is how well they did the super powers. Super powers depicted in media, especially in kdramas, tend to be dramatized and overexaggerated with absolutely terrible cgi. However, this drama absolutely knocked it out of the park. The editing was amazing because it skipped all of those annoying slow-mo scenes and had great effects. For example, the car / field fight scene and the scene where Eun Woo smacks one of the antagonists into the wall. They actually allowed the viewer to live in the moment as they played the scenes as they were. They properly showed the impact and the damage done by such damaging abilities instead of dumbing it down with slow mo.
Honestly, I wish kdramas would all just get rid of that damn slow-mo obsession, We don't need it in action scenes and we definitely don't need it in kiss scenes. Same with the flashbacks. I could go into a whole rant about how unnecessary flashbacks are and they only insult the viewers intelligence but that's off topic so I won't go there.
Absolutely in love with this drama so far! I'm not joking when I say this is the first ever drama I've watched in which I have woken up every morning at 6 am since it first released to watch the new episodes. I'm so incredibly invested in our main characters and I love it. I usually wait until a drama is done so that I can binge watch it but I absolutely can't wait with this one.
The bad comments for The Legend Of The Female General in the comments are so weird to me so far. They all seem like they only watched the first episode, didn't like it, and are now trying to ruin it for others with their negative comments. The comments about the bad acting or choppy editing are total bs. People hate that the characters actually have a personality besides "cold and imposing" like so many of these bland ah male leads in other historical (and modern) romance dramas.
I think the real shame is that they changed the original plot in order to speed up the plot events, I'm currently reading the novel and I absolutely love it, but I do think the changes made the drama more confusing in some aspects. For example, there was a debate on social media over one scene in the first (or second I can't remember) episode where they show He Yan training and showing off her skills with the double dagger things. In the end she clearly gets tired and stops. A ton of people started a debate that she was faking it in order to not draw attention. Let's make one thing clear, that's not the case. She was just tired from having to run over 3 miles while carrying a ton of weight in a weak and healing body. This is also where I think the plot changes from the novel made the show a little confusing, because it was explained clearly in the novel that she didn't have the muscle strength or stamina (because she was in new female body that had never done a day of manual labor), that's why there are a few chapters of only training. Yet, I think the early suspicion shown from Xiao Yue lead to people thinking that she was faking her exhaustion in the drama.
While I can see how people didn't like the drama, I do suggest to the people who haven't watched the drama to not listen to those negative comments and to give it a try anyways. Everyone has different expectations for a show like this and for what they consider a "strong" and "independent" female character. Everyone also has different values and experiences that impact how they experience a show and its characters. Don't listen to comments, especially on MDL, about if a show is good or not. There are so many badly rated shows on here that are my absolute favorites and there are just as many highly rated shows that I absolutely can't stand to watch. Don't listen to comments and make your own decisions.
I can count on one hand how many dramas have made me giggle out loud, blush, and kick my feet. This drama has just been added to this list because oh my god it was adorable. I was literally rolling around in my bed giggling while watching this drama. They had so much chemistry and it was just a constant sweetness attack every episode.
The concept of this drama is so cool. I like that they split both parts (historical and modern) into two different dramas. One is full of turbulence and blood while the other is full of peace.
This was so disappointing. I don't understand why they had to make an entire new main couple? I was so looking forward to the continuation of Wayo and Phana's story. I thought they would at least get an episode to explain what happened but they got like 20 minutes for that story. Also, what the heck was up with Lomnaw's lines?? I was cringing so hard in the beginning because of how he acted.
