At the end of the day, a celebrity is a public figure and you are as good as public’s opinion of you… and the fact is, most people in Korea will boycott her, which is their prerogative. She should’ve just kept quiet about her family. I wonder if she did know abs that’s why she didn’t use her family name as an actress and just went by her given name.

And we’ll see how genuine her apology really is, only time will tell.

It’s because she derived benefits from her family’s betrayal. Her privilege at the expense of deaths of people. And is it really in the past if the victims are still alive? Jisoo didn’t get any benefit from her brother, if anything he used her to his benefit. Again, some of her family’s victims are still alive. It’s like Trump’s grandkids who reap benefits from their parents exploits, most people don’t think they deserve the unfair opportunities they were given.

Sad that she is being cancelled for something she has no control over or even liable for. Her great great grandfather,…
It’s not just her great grandfather but her grandfather (google Sorokdo incident) and the fact that she grew up extremely privileged, thanks to her family betraying and exploiting Korea. There are people still alive who were wronged by her family. She herself did not betray the country but she directly derived benefit from it.

She was asked question. It’s not like she initiated it and just started talking about how she was proud of her…
I just saw that she did issue an apology, 3 days later, when she was so quick to deny initially. Anyways, yes agree to disagree. I don’t think you are Korean, so maybe you are not seeing from our perspective. That’s fine.

The mere fact that her great grandfather was allowed to attend university during Japanese colonialism shouldve raised red flags coz back then, most were not allowed to go to school, learning Hangeul was illegal. It was a privilege almost exclusive to Japanese sympathizers. One of the reasons why people are so angry is because they used to take away land and wealth from Koreans to reward to Koreans who supported Japan, and hence the family became unlawfully weathly/well off. Plus, it’s Koreas liberation day soon and she was slow to issue an official apology herself, her agency did. Historically, Koreans feel that these wealthy families who gained wealth by betraying the country should not continue to enjoy the wealth and opportunities they came to them. We are still recovering from trauma, we still have people who lived through these trauma.

I don't think she was bragging about her great-grandfather's allegiance to Japan. There's no one in their right…
Yes, I am comfortable not watching her shows. And yes, I think she should’ve done her due diligence. And the city of Anyang should’ve done its due diligence.

She has a responsibility to know as a public figure and apparently, her family history was very much available online. Back in her great grand parents generation, the fact that they were able to attend medical school in Japan and successfully practice medicine would’ve raised some red flags. Her great grandfather was also in a newspaper that’s available online that shows his support to Japan. This is a very sensitive issue for many Koreans and as a public figure, she should’ve done her research. It didn’t help that she and her agency denied that her ancestors were pro Japan coz it was fact checked so quick and they had to issue an apology so quickly. Ignorance doesn’t excuse you, esp when you are a public figure.

Also, she may have not have known but her family sure benefited from supporting Japanese occupation of Korea.

Umm I am very sympathetic to the situation in Gaza but what does that have to do with me, as a Korean, being upset with Ha Young? Are you assuming that because I am upset about this, I don’t care about genocide in Gaza? Why not bring up Sudan? Total red herring

She’s old enough to know and if you don’t know all the facts, don’t bring it up? Quick google search told all the Koreans what she “didn’t know”. And she volunteered those information when interviewed. it’s not just her ancestor betraying Korea but her family has enriched themselves by betraying Korea. Japane used to give perks and lands taken away from Koreans to traitors.

I was about to watch this but after reading about the controversy with Ha Young, I don’t think I will. What a shame. My grandmother was almost dragged by the Japanese army to serve as a comfort woman during the occupation and for her to brag openly about her ancestors who betrayed Korea… Insane. Shows me how ignorant she is. Sorry to other cast members.

Their chemistry onscreen and off screen is so good. As expected with long time friends. I’m truly enjoying this…
I heard that although they knew of each other for a long time bc they attended same middle/high school, they were not friends. I saw in some interview that they realized when the started filming this drama that they had each others contact info from
class group chat back in the days.
