I think it’s because he hates that version of himself. Ji Ling is Chi Wen’s innocent past self.
You are misunderstanding Chi wen. Life changed him from his innocent self. People who go through trauma or life in general are different from their childhood self. You could see Chi wen was sad that Ji Ling found out he was a puppet and he even had tears in his eyes when he was explaining to Ji Ling. So no he was not harsh with him. He just absorbed back his essence from his puppet.

I absolutely loved how Dragon diety held that sword blade to save Li Jie and Li Jie couldn’t bear to see him hurt and chose to sacrifice himself. I love strong brotherly love in dramas.

My favorite scene is when Ji Ling found out he was a puppet and then the scene where he went to confirm from the Dragon diety. I cried when he called the Dragon diety his beloved\favorite person. He felt betrayed. Kinda weird as they are the same person.
