PS. The Profile is only parked in the Princess and the Werewolf discussions for convenience sake because that was where I continued to build it, after a first draft started while watching Hidden Love. It was intended then as a companion piece to another discussion that focused on the drama (now also companion piece to TPATW discussion of CCC). The Profile is not focusing on either of the dramas but is instead a general overview of the rising star.
It has several "chapters", focusing on different things with many illustrations, pictures, gifs, links : 1/ biodata ; family ; pet ; personality (MBTI and self assessment) ; fandom information ; social media links 2/ dramas, movies past and upcoming, with short presentations, gifs and illustrations, snippets, and direct links to watch them, last confirmed news and possible melons, + description of CZY's participation in two selected variety shows ; 3/ musical "career", knowing that he was cast for humor and handsomeness first in a forgotten boy band ; 4/ sports likes and achievements (gold medal in archery) ; 5/ food likes ; 6/ modeling career updated to September 2023. 7/ humor and seriousness.
Honestly haven't watched Devine Destiny but as for why it might have a lower score currently it has just under…
Yes Chen Zheyuan is a very interesting actor. I don't know if you like c-dramas seeing that your list is very harsh to most (LBFAD 1.5?) and although you seem to like the show Keep Running, where he is a frequent guest or host, you don't seem to have touched the dramas he appears in. In case you are ready to try some, you can head to the Profile I did for him and click on the direct links to watch the dramas (saving time from trying to find them elsewhere, I hope).
Btw I understand that you are a fan of Angelababy; I don't know why you are so sure people want to "eviscerate" her. I for one have nothing against her, just as I have no hate for any actress, or most of their fans, despite the rumored feuds of some. I have put on hold Twilight, but only for a while, bc too busy elsewhere, so will soon resume watching. I rather like Angelababy pairing with Ren Jialun, who is one in top of my long list of favorite c-drama actors (no need for a Profile for him: he is well-known, or perhaps not that much. Do people here listen to his excellent concept albums or... Lots of trivia. I am following his news as I do those of the long list of actors i like.)
But whereas I probably will not rate Twilight below an 8.5 or more eventually, I noticed that you rated it a 10 without having clocked in a single episode watched. Oversight? It happens that I also am slow in clocking in what I watch. Instead of dropping, I prefer to not even mention that I touched some dramas briefly... So my list shows what I have watched, usually to completion, and even rewatch, because I hate skipping, be it boring or not on first watch. But everyone is different, watching patterns and opinions are varied, and that's fine.
It happens that I change opinions (usually for the better) while persisting to watch a drama. I did that especially about LLTG, of which I became rather a raver! My kind of watching is probably not like most : although I like to read, I seldom read the novel that a drama is from, since I read mostly non fiction now, or other genres belonging to my first fandom. I like the quotes from old classics or old poetry: Tang poets, Rabindranath Tagore... that I notice sometimes, and since I have traveled a lot, will be attentive to some settings, as I am to the newspeak that pops up now and then. Also, and that's a hoot, to the adfest that I find now and then. TPATW started with one and I was rolf! so, put it in a Gif in the CCC column for those who might wonder if it was a familiar brand.
While I was adding a Qi Xi post to the CCC (Cast, Characters and Crew) discussion column, I also watched Marcus' latest video about c-drama news, and was interested by his mention of CZY's next project (i.e. a drama that is still not shot), so I went back to my other sources of info, and found confirmation + a link to read the novel of that new one in English, for those who like reading too. Added in the Profile of CZY.
The Profile and the CCC can be found in the Discussion section above this Comments one.
Perhaps I will remind you of it in three days time..... Since it is soon THAT period, I added a, I hope, funny and nice postscript to the column Cast, Characters, Crew.
btw I also added some more stuff in the column, that I really ought to have incorporated from start. Do you know why KML takes her to the cave to watch the night sky? Yes, he told her about a certain star, but do you know more about it? If not, head to the column to read about it below KML/Li Xiong character presentation. Plus a new gif to illustrate young KML who is played by one of the "ten cutest child actors of China" (link to a video about these).
PS. There are hot news about Chen Zheyuan's next drama project. You can find it on his Profile, linked in the column about Kui Mulang character and actor.
I seem to remember something about a soldier now specializing in demolition and a TV news reporter. Because she got caught in social unrest, he helped her. It seemed to have a tragic end. -- It looks from comments below that there already are people who are defiant about the adaptation and wary that the actors get caught in crossfires if there are real pbs.
Could you perhaps first thank those who reply to you, like i heart lusi ? I don't need any thanks. What I inform about is freely given, not a due. There's enough in the Discussion column anyway to help you, there.
什么意思?小心: 呵人者 人恒呵之 btw Google Translate won't help you there. You might find the solution watching episodes closely and puzzling out what Qi Pa says, although it has not anything to do with nuts (that's one instance when Youku got excessively creative...)
Yes, its a happy ending for every couple except one of the side couplesMany people hating on this show are those…
I already stated that the haters are not fangirls of Chen Zhe Yuan ; yuanbaos and yiyang are totally on the same page here to support the show. There have been messages congratulating this pairing, and this despite it is CZY's n-2 successful pairing recently (before Shen Yue and Zhao Lusi). The yuanbao fans of CZY do not keep talking negatively about FL; that's simply not true. He has expressed in a very recent interview that he was favorably impressed by Wu Xuanyi's skills, so why would fans suddenly up and contradict him ?
I rather suspect there are haters of his previous pairing in Hidden Love (you should know there were special fake accounts suddenly popping up on MDL to disparage that drama: those who stayed long enough as I did on that Comments page saw it and exposed them) who are stirring up trouble and perhaps even spilling into here to act as if they hate Wu Xuanyi in order to discredit CZY.
The mix of genres is certainly one reason that some genuine audience were bewildered because they did not know much about the show, started thinking it was an ordinary xianxia (it is not) and did not know anything about the fairy tale that is the model, the previous drama this is a sequel of, and the "urban portal fantasy" modern genre this ties in to, with trace elements of wuxia and only cosmetic hints of cultivation magic. Therefore the mix of modern speech at times and conventional "costume drama" speech. It just doesn't fit the "box", so some dislike that they can't just follow the criteria they are used to, and hastily go criticizing it because it doesn't fit what they are used to... It is a choice from the author: the book was successful and therefore got adapted, and praised by quite a few who understood it and got the jokes. Read more about it here, and the FL, maybe : https://mydramalist.com/discussions/lang-jun-bu-ru-yi/110459-the-princess-and-the-werewolf-cast-characters-crew
Many people are hating and many are praising this drama. Tho, I like wu xuanyi and chen zheyuan so I'm gonna try…
Yes to your question. I think those who dislike the drama like quick snacks, so they get bored (they say they "got boring", well I am bored by auto correcting in my mind what they write...) and rally those who will quickly give their review a thumbs-up as "helpful" perhaps even without having watched a single episode. If you like both leads, take your time to watch it. If you understand some Chinese, you might also appreciate the jokes along the way, weaved into the "small tricks to escape" that the unusual princess uses. One thing to bear in mind is that Qi Pa is the daughter of the time traveller (into fantasy, though) of the couple from Go, Princess Go! so it is not at all surprising that she mixes "ancient costume" talk with phrases that are resolutely modern: her mom and dad taught her that before they left her because they "are invited to visit Europe". That gives another funny twist to dialogues that irks some who absolutely want it to fit the well-known "box" of their conception of xianxia (it is not xianxia) or xuanhuan (it not that either) or ancient costume (wrong again, it is FANTASY, as in fairy tales, but of the kind where there are no fairies, just some use of magic, like in modern urban fantasies where you get a "portal" into the "other world"). The starting point for the author, was a new twist on the story of Beauty and the Beast, and I would say it is a nice one, perhaps not as grand as LBFAD which used a lot of CGI (there's not that much here), but the costumes are by the same designer (bear in mind she did this before LBFAD since this drama was filmed mid 2021). I added a lot of infos about the drama in the Discussion section, including gifs made by me to show who the characters are, and bullet short biographies -- well, except for Wu Xuanyi-- of actors/actresses for the (almost) full cast (I still wonder why one went uncredited on Baidu, and don't think I spotted that one in Chinese end credits either : can't believe it is someone who's been "erased" for some real life sins : I've been following idly the c-ent gossips and scandals for a handful of years, and he did not look like he'd belong to that "unhappy tribe"...) If you are a keen watcher of c dramas and recognize him, do add his name in comments to the column here? https://mydramalist.com/discussions/lang-jun-bu-ru-yi/110459-the-princess-and-the-werewolf-cast-characters-crew So, I hope you have time to watch it, now or sometime, and enjoy it, as SML said in his message to audience : https://mydramalist.com/photos/rKov7_3 adding the sweet wish 愿你被世界宠爱 !
how accurate are the subtitles on Youku? cause I’m watching it there and the fl keeps saying “I was assassinated”…
Actually, this way of talking about an attempt at assassination is found again and again in Chinese dramas; it's a language quirk... Just take it in stride. When translations are done from English to Chinese by laymen (or, god forbid! automated tools like Google translate) it can be a lot worse. There is never a perfect translation ; that's why there is this saying about what is "lost in translation" and the Italians used to say "traduttore, traditore" (translator, traitor). Let's say Youku has it approximatively right 90% of the time. Sometimes the translation will substitute equivalents in view of context, and the "son-in-law of the king" (or emperor) 驸马 fùmǎ gets translated as Prince Consort. (A Lai's claim in episode 9). The general idea is still in line with the meaning. Viki's team of fansubbers get the ideas across by providing small notes about language and cultural context, so if you are keen on better accuracy, you could try there too. I have not analyzed in depth whether they are superior. Sometimes, they are different. Those who watch Asian dramas (or even any drama or movie in a language that is not familiar to them) get used to approximations, recognizing familiar quirks, correcting in their mind, bridging gaps... : it's an interesting gymnastic for the brain, guaranteed to fight off Alzheimer disease! For this drama, I'd say, on the whole, Youku is very decent with the translation ; they must have used real translators who did not rely too much on A.I., even if it means it took time. The dramas often get translated almost simultaneously with airing, so it is certainly a lot of work, even with tools to fill in sometimes with set phrases, to which the "assassination" quirk probably belongs.

I was happy to witness that The Princess and the Werewolf has now been staying in the top 10 Chinese dramas of the week ending Sunday 13 August, as computed by Vlinkage and other sources and reported by Marcus on his YouTube channel. I have made a new gif to illustrate the climb (because it is still climbing!) and added it to the Cast, Characters, Crew column, in the Discussion section.
Im at ep20, the FL is finedont heed the comments here bashing the FL, most are just recent fangirls of the ML…
Well I could be ranked among the fanpeople of ML but I am by no means bashing the FL!! She did a good job, and I was quite entertained by her playing the "little tricks" to escape Beast kingdom - and reach success. I did not know much about her, more about her friend Cheng Xiao, although I had watched DC before, but that was at a time when I did not pay as much attention to actors and actresses and just consumed dramas like a way of passing time.
Because of TPATW, I went looking for her songs and dances, which are nice, and included a long column for her on the Cast, Characters, and Crew review I have posted to Discussions above. It may be of interest to those who don't know much about her : I got help from a genuine yi yuan there, and as you should know, the yiyuan and the yuanbaos are not at all enemies.
There even was a fandom post circulating on social media celebrating the success of this pairing, despite it airs with a two years delay... The fans of Wu Xuanyi were happy that it turned out well and saluted the fans of Chen Zheyuan with whom they joined hands to support this drama. Trawling back in the past comments here, you could probably find it.
I rather think the flak comes from people who disliked CZY because he paired with ZLS recently and they gained unexpected high success in the face of strong competition from very hyped and awaited dramas, and what I can only call a slander campaign mounted to discredit the very story of Hidden Love. So, my opinion about this is that some haters perhaps spilled over here to gun down the unpretentious fairy tale.
I've watched the first 2 episodes and there are things that bother me. He took her to beast clan against her will,…
Read the fairy tale and mythologies. Beauty and the Beast is the origin of the story, not present-day moralistic and sjw outlooks. It is purposefully not set in current day modern cities, but in a fantasy ancient costume time, with a full fledged "portal" to other world "beyond" where the people are more animalistic. Despite the drama has the Princess be a more modern minded one than the protagonist in the old tale, all influenced by the author's snarky views about sexual genres, their influence on werewolf and vampire stories, and using it for fun in both Go Princess Go! and here. The driving force of recovering the "holy pearl" is also a fantasy and fairy tale common thing. That she swallowed it is very comical, but what to do : slice her up to get it back, or have her giving it back the way it is known to work in fairy tales? He can't very well come to Daxia and state his case and try seduce her there, so he has to take a shortcut and have her be brought to his kingdom and find something there that will entice her to stay and, rule of fairy tale, fall in love with him, at least in one of his incarnations, but better the whole hog. She is so lively that he falls in love first, other rule of fairy tales. Of course the wolf loves the princess! She can't see beyond appearances, and she means to resist Stockholm syndrome: abduction is not a turn-on for her, even if he is not a bad guy who doesn't care about her feelings. Not like the heroines in those Roman and Greek tales where gods and heroes routinely abducted females to be their lovers and mother of their offspring. Kui Mulang is almost like the cursed princes of fairy tales who look fearsome but have a soft heart, but his Li Xiong incarnation is both a help and a hindrance to have the princess consider his merits : she can't see beyond a nice face, to start with (uhmm "good shape!" as Qi Pa blurted out appreciatively when she first met him, thinking of the replica of the David statue by Michelangelo that she received from her parents as a gift and incentive to find herself a man, before abduction ). The drama could be retitled : "The myriad ways the Princess tried to escape her sweet fate". Until she finally sees the light and accept that yes, he abducted her, but also, patiently and lovingly waited for her there and did his best to make her acquainted with his world, until she could accept him wholeheartedly. Would she have been better off forced to marry (be raped by) the despicable A Lai ? because that was the other option in this fantasy world. Unless perhaps she time travel to modern times like her mom did, and meet a series of guys who'd never say ever to her, because she is so "qipa", odd and wilful. Perhaps those modern guys might even turn nasty werewolf-style and chop her up for dinner as it can happen. Nutshell: this is not a role model for little girls or boys of our times, of course. Just a fantasy, with beautiful costumes, lots of fun, and an impressive makeup to allow actor to play his night and day roles. (The designer is the same that did Love Between Fairy And Devil btw. You can read about the cast, crew and characters in the pinned Discussion above the Comments section).
😂😂😂😂😂😂 - I already watched it to completion on Youku. But may rewatch parts on Viki to appreciate…
I can't speak for Viki. But guessing from the other dramas they picked up, it was noticeable that there was always a delay with original platform, also because it depends on the team of fansubbers with them. So: any time after August 29. But surely before mid September.
