Absolutely. He reminds me too much of men who gave really good 1st impression but turned out to be mehhh 🤣 I will definitely disconnect. It’s just because it’s Zhang Yunlong that I’m wiling to give WQHY a chance again and again.

5 screenwriters?! No wonder! I definitely blame the screenwriters for writing his character like that but me as a viewer gets carried away by what I see on screen and it’s frustrating. It’s good to show that the ML isn’t perfect & can’t do everything but if it keeps going on like that for too long, I as a viewer gets tired. What makes them think that it’s a good idea to write him like he’s so powerful, skillful and smart but when it’s crucial he failed to achieve anything. 😪
Le sigh…Jiuhuo and Jialan are so much more powerful and smarter than all the humans combined. Getting tired and disappointed at Wangquan Hongye coz he doesn’t seem to be able to do much without help and also easily overpowered or fooled by the demons. Why such a weak ML?? Jiuhuo on the other hand is amazing!
The screenwriters proposed ending was to make Banxia a half demon, which would have made this a demon on demon…
The mirror arc creeped me out a bit when she was sleeping alone in the room and had to remove every reflective item in there. I don’t think he could go back until he finds a way to repair the Taohu. He said it’s broken and he couldn’t use it anymore 😢. If there’s no S2, I’ll wait for the animated one then.

I actually think this ending is appropriate too. Of course I do like a HE but making Banxia a half demon is a bad idea. I would hate that more than a BE. I wish for S2. 12 years later, they’re still young. I like the arcs especially the painting arc.
This drama is surprisingly very good. I’m still on Ep 25 but I read some comments on the ending. Makes me a little anxious but I’m gonna keep watching. The arcs remind me of SToTD.
If you follow CDrama or movies you'll know it will pass censorship if they make sure all criminals get their punishment…
Yup I enjoy watching Light On series but the quality of recent crime dramas have deteriorated. My fav crime drama with corrupt cops is The Knockout. There’s also one in Detective Chinatown 1(the drama, not the movie), I think The Long Night has it too but I watched it so long ago I don’t remember clearly now. It’s a very good drama though. The Embers also had one or two in it. Usually they’re not the lead characters and they can pass censorship coz in Cdramas, no bad guys go unpunished no matter how petty their actions are.
Personally, I loved the Embers. here are some https://mydramalist.com/list/Lp6QvXR4
Agree with the above that The Embers is good. It’s one of the most recent ones. Also check out The Knockout and Burning Ice. All solid actors and plot although not recent.

“BUT I don’t remember watching any Cdramas whereby there are corrupt cops though… ”
Then you haven’t watched enough crime genre Cdramas 😉. There are many and I’m getting tired of that actually when watching another crime drama recently.
