I saw Marcus’ review today. He watched the whole drama so his review is valid.

Yeah I agree, there were a lot of people who gave bad reviews even before the drama ended. In fact, when it ran the first few episodes, people especially diehard fans of Jinyong didn't like it and another round when they found out who was gonna play Cheng Lingsu coz they said CLS should be ugly. They didn't give themselves a chance or an open mind to watch it. I personally have no problem with CLS's actress. I'd rather watch her than an 'ugly' actress(as if C-ent has ugly actresses) but then again, I'm that person who had forgotten details when I first watched it as a kid.

I think anyone who didn't watch the whole drama and purely rely on the comments of others(who also didn't watch the whole drama) cannot provide a reliable review. I'd say watch the drama on your own and form your own opinion from there. I watched the whole drama and although the plot has flaws for sure, I really have no complaints on the fight scenes. They're awesome. Still wowed by the fight scene between Hu Fei and Miao Renfeng in Ep 22.

She's the weakest link but maybe it's because she's introduced quite late in the drama. By that time, the other characters are already as tight as a family. She did become more likable later and it was quite fun to see Su Wuming getting dominated by her.

You're right, I also have a soft spot for SSoFV and despite it's flaws, it really isn't a bad adaptation.

A big part of the success of this drama is the actors and their chemistry with each other especially between the 2 MLs. To me, the cases are all predictable and if it weren't for the actors including YXW, I'd have enjoyed this drama less.

Finally forced myself to finish watching the drama. Personal opinion here...what a huge letdown. Made me so frustrated with their unbelievable stupidity. Blame the scriptwriters I guess but they made the characters take ALL the wrong decisions, become as dumb and careless as one could get just to push the plot forward. The characters are so ridiculously dumb that I as a viewer felt insulted and at the end I actually rooted for the villains coz they seemed way smarter and more resourceful. The only saving grace is Tan Jianci's acting. Very disappointing coz it started so well.

Don't remember exactly. Around Ep 6? When they left Chang'an. It really is worth a little patience at the beginning. The character development(of all of them) is really good.

If you wanna get over it, start watching Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty. That's what I did. But only if you wanna move on. Nothing wrong with not getting over a drama.

Totally agree. That's why I'm feeling defensive over this drama despite its shortcomings. It also doesn't help that a popular Youtuber criticized the fight scenes in her livestream despite admitting that she didn't watch the drama.

This is definitely more binge-worthy than SSoFV which I do like overall.

I had the same reaction as you with the first case. Felt it was a bit draggy but keep watching. After the 1st case it get becomes very enjoyable to watch. I binged through it all.

Wow I binged and finished this 🤣! Very satisfied with the ending. The 1st case was a bit draggy for me & at first I couldn’t stand Lu Lingfeng’s arrogance but then it got better & better. The drama’s brilliant in that it never fails to hook you into wanting to know what happens next. I watched this right after Side Story of Fox Volant(which was good too) & was hoping this one would be good. Not disappointed at all & now I want more. I was hoping to find out more about Chicken Fed’s backstory. What happened to him that caused him to live in the Ghost Market but the drama didn’t show that. Hopefully, they’ll have that in S2.
