Eh, great guy and really high-class actor;
It would be nice if the film could also find distribution in the western countries, it is a work that, it goes without saying, would be essential to see on the big screen, but I see it as rather difficult as it has not been presented at European festivals; it is a historical period that I personally am very interested in, that of Japanese colonialism;

As for the rest, now that he's a husband and father, there are many responsibilities and the children, in my opinion, take priority over everything; sooner or later we all grow up and once you're over 40, you see the world from a different perspective...

Of course they are a beautiful couple, and she is absolutely fabulous, but we already knew that...
They found each other at the ‘perfect moment’, all the love of the world to them, it's nice to know they are so connected...

"something out of 1970s Chile"With many other possible similar examples, including Korea itself, why did you choose…
(For Rammstein CSGO)
Italy has always had very strong ties with Chile, welcoming the music band Inti Illimani immediately after the ‘73 coup, there is a whole literary and cinematographic culture that often finds space in the cultural programmes of our TVs; Isabel Allende herself often comes to Italy for conferences and book presentations...

The scenes of Pinochet's coup have often been shown on TV (9/11 is not just about the Twin Towers) I could never have mentioned Korea itself because, very guiltily, this nation has often been ignored in terms of information (at least until the ‘88 Olympic Games) and very little was known about the previous coups (successful or not); Even today, in 2024 there is little, very little attention paid to the reality of South Korea, there is much more talk of North Korea in an always negative key (as is easy to imagine...)

In the collective imaginary (at least in my case) those scenes with tanks in the streets immediately reminded me of those sad b/w images

Shocking scenes, soldiers and even tanks in the streets, as well as barricades inside the palace, something out of 1970s Chile, it was great to see all the young people take to the streets, immediately, even though it was late at night, there was constant TV coverage and news even here in Italy, but the BBC was excellent, which made a nice non-stop, happy for the immediate response of the people (and parliament!), this figure (with his relatives) I think his hours are numbered

The movie unfortunately I have not yet seen, but considering the similarities, it should certainly be recuperated

Many, Many Best Wishes to our beautiful one! ♥️
Truly a queen of talent and undisputed class
it is always a joy to see you perform!
But it's true, the current photo doesn't do you justice, it would take something to highlight your magnificent smile (a bit like the photographs developed in the ending of ‘Encounter’)
See you very soon with your new projects
Happy Happy Birthday to you!

I've written about it on several occasions, I really like Yoon Se Ah, a truly complete actress capable of making her characters ‘grow’ as the story proceeds.
I remember her in the same year offering two notable characterisations in both ‘SKY Castle’ (which is a beautiful drama! ) and ‘Good Witch’ (which is also well conceived and realised);
‘Perfect Family’ I temporarily abandoned, it wasn't particularly winning me over as a story, I'm more or less staying away from the reviews here on MDL which seem quite humoral= Roller Coaster of ratings, from masterpiece to disaster!
This film, who knows, it seems like the horror genre is experiencing yet another flowering...
But...
Working mother, cameras in the house, children....
From films like ‘Entity’ onwards cinema and TV have abused it in industrial quantities...
We'll read the developments...
However, she is always very busy, even this drama ‘Love Me’, I am happy for her, well done!

My goodness! look at that picture, how can you not love this wonderful actress!
Very happy for her new project, a really interesting cue with this mock-up of a married woman who juggles real wives, it seems a fairly ‘light’ plot, even if the question of unmarried women in Korea is definitely central to the current times.
I imagine they'll build up an interesting back story to add intrigue; always very cute Gong Min-jung too, I'll be joining the queue in eager anticipation!

Who knows why I suspect that they will end up falling in love....
Jokes aside, they are both very talented, if the drama is well-written and doesn't slip into the usual clichés one can hope for a story about ‘real’ people, possibly still capable of moving people...
If we are along the same lines as ‘When My Love Blooms’, with much nostalgia and repeated flashbacks to the characters' youth, I'm in.
Then for me, the more sad stories, the more I like them...

Happy Birthday, beautiful Suzy
I, for reasons of age, am very fond of actresses closer to my generation,
but there is no doubt that you and another handpicked group of young stars
truly represent the present and the bright future of Korean cinematography
You are very good, I recently enjoyed you so much in ‘Anna’ (the long version)
as well as before in ‘Vagabond’ and ‘While You Were Sleeping’
and I always have a certain interest in your work precisely because of your versatile talent
as well as your extraordinary beauty
Keep up the good work, you are great!
All the best to you! 💖

Remember the magic of Cinema Paradiso? Seems there's no place for real movies these days, what would happen if…
Eh, Tornatore's movie is one of the most classic examples of what can be considered the beauty of the cinema, the magic of the theatre with the lights going out, the nostalgia for a distant past that will never return, the audience that can afford to dream (dreaming costs nothing, after all) and perhaps even fall in love; it is a vision that for some is perhaps naïve, but decidedly captivating and ‘popular’, in the sense that it succeeds in addressing a much wider and more composite audience (in terms of artistic preferences, etc.).

Personally, I myself have always followed a ‘double rail’ of cinematic passion capable of making me appreciate, without any particular conditioning, both popular cinema simplistically defined as ‘commercial’ and so-called ‘ authorial cinema’, for many people ‘cryptic’ ‘ difficult’ ‘boring’ and ‘slow’ (these are the simplifications that one often hears or reads about)

Even this article we are commenting on advances the suspicion that the new generations have, so to speak, a bit of a ‘difficulty’ (I'm holding back a bit by using a euphemism...) with sitting in the theatre watching (at least) two-hour movies or 16/20 episode drama productions (God forbid the 40/50 ones!);

Millie Bobby Brown, the star of ‘Stranger Things’ has candidly admitted that she can't concentrate and follow ‘long’ movies (I wonder what her sense of the length of a film is...) too many distractions, it seems...
My nieces are more or less that age and are in the same condition (always on their cell phones...), I wonder if it is not a problem of lack of ‘ cinematic education’ if even in Korea the so-called ‘Generation Z’ shows the same difficulties in attention and interest...

TBH even if the costs weren't already way too high for anything in cinema, there is absolutely nothing (running…
I absolutely understand your sense of frustration, which, to a large extent, is also mine, the future does not really look rosy in terms of innovation of content and quality of stories, we are at the level of disposable, ‘products’ rather than cinematic works.

Miyazaki arrived here but for very few days, a sort of ‘special projection’ made in very few theatres and without any ad campaign; it is incredible but his movies in Italy have (almost all) arrived decades (!) late
‘Kiki’ and ‘Totoro’ were for a long time only available on foreign DVDs or in bootleg versions with subtitles edited by first-hour fans...

I always go a little bit by authors, so I have a certain range of directors to whom I am very attached and at least I try to see their works in the theatres, but it's really a drop in the ocean, the cinemas in the city have disappeared or shrunk considerably and it's absolutely established that multiplexes just bombard you with Marvel movies and the endless ‘Mission: Impossible‘ or those “John Wick”-style things which, moreover, seem to me to be exaggeratedly violent, shoot-em-up videogame-style...
Remaining with recent cases, films like Kaurismaki's “Fallen Leaves” or Wenders’ ‘Perfect Days’ really are the exception that confirms the rule, even the small phenomenon of ‘Past Lives’ has stirred up a little attention here in my country, even if, who knows why they released it after Valentine's Day...

If the Americans are involved, it will be something related perhaps to migration problems, the Mexican border and these stuff here, replicating the extraordinary cinematographic script behind ‘Crash’ is absolutely impossible, imho

What is more worrying is the debate on costs (very high) and revenues (inadequate) in the Korean entertainment industry, they probably want to try to get more government funding (?), I think they have bitten off more than they can chew, and now there is an obvious reflux,
dramas for example, too many, too many productions and, frankly, often the same ones

In Italy, too, there is an evident drop in the number of spectators in cinemas, where the focus is often on US blockbusters, leaving out the more authorial and experimental works; there is still some national phenomenon, but it is really too little to speak in positive terms

there are many problems here as well, with the rise of (very expensive!) streaming platforms.
the Venice Film Festival itself has for some years now included productions and TV series linked to pay-TV, for me as a purist it is an abomination, but it is clear that the market has absolutely changed

For me, the fascination of Korean cinematography lies in presenting its popular culture abroad, I hope they don't end up bending it and adapting their stories to ‘Western’ demands, that would be really sad

Happy for ‘Queen Of Tears’ ,I had promoted it at the time in the reviews with some reservations, also related to the script but I hope it will be rewarded for the wonderful film direction of the whole drama, I also really like the soundtrack, some time ago I was notified about a nice vinyl edition but it's at scandalous prices and unfortunately it seems to be only imported from Asia and neighbouring areas (in the Euro zone in my usual record shops there's no mention, unfortunately)
Certainly Kim Ji Won is really gorgeous, just stunning!
Congratulations to QoT for the nominations!
