For everyone who became a fan of Chen Xing Xu from this and wants to see him in a playful, mischevous, and happier role, watch Fall in Love! Totally different genre, but I've wanted to see him return to that smiling Chen Xing Xu ever since this drama ended.
Should've been named 'Torturing Si Feng in all horrible ways for 59 episodes and the viewers by listening to others…
You summarized everything I feel about this show! Came here to post that I really enjoy the last 24 episodes once most of the misunderstandings are taken care of. Watched this as a fan of Cheng Yi, where I adore him in Stand by Me which has a lot of complexity. I wanted to say about Love and Redemption that I can see the hard work put into the acting, costumes, fight design, music, and special effects, the only problem I have is the plot itself. Xuanji's character is not that great as she's the cause of much of Sifeng's suffering, and I know the actress is a talented woman who deserved a better character. Cheng Yi really shines as the tortured prince, but if you liked him in this show, you should watch Stand by Me, though the genres are totally different. In conclusion, people's preferences for the genre make a big difference in whether you like this story or not, but for all the reasons Asp mentioned, I will forever refer to this as "the show where I wanted to pull my hair out." Lol.

Thank you very much for the summary of what he said, I wouldn't want to watch the broadcast without subtitles, so the summary is appreciated.
I really want to pay for WeTV but I cant watch WeTV from my Samsung SmartTV. I had no problem with Iqiyi or other…
I have the same question about WeTV, except how to play it on a mac desktop. I get that you have to buy VIP through a phone or ipad, but I'm wondering if you can still log into your WeTV account through the desktop and watch there?
I am loving all of Chen Xing Xu's scenes, which are pretty much the only ones I'm watching. He gets to be silly yet talented, and his smiles are a secret weapon he uses on his viewers. I'm astonished at the number of scenes of boardroom men talking about companies and trains, thinking who is the audience for this? Chen Xing Xu's character arc seems the reason for the show to exists, imo.
Deep Lurk is supposed to air in 2022! No clue yet what it's about, but I'm happy another drama of his is coming out. I'm so looking forward to South Wind Knows My Mood and Immortal Samsara.
Since you mentioned Wei Wuxian's casting, I also Adore XZ of course. I recently discovered Chen Xing Xu through…
Confirmation on the end of Goodbye My Princess - it's sad. Unfortunately I watched it as a romance so the ending was a surprise. Chen Xing Xu is in the romantic drama Fall in Love, airing in the next few weeks, and I can't regret watching GMP just to have met him.
I really liked Duoluo Continent, it felt the most anime-like of any C-drama with the ensemble crew and fight scenes. However, if XZ wanted to do a season 2 I hope it would propel Tang San into a more adult role, fighting forces out in the world. I feel the same as you about Ace Troops, so the Longest Promise is my most anticipated drama with him, and Joy of Life whether he participates or not (it's that good). I didn't like Oh My Emperor either (too silly). I prefer historical dramas over modern, but my biggest hope for Xiao Zhan's future projects is for more complete stories like TU which had a full character arc and conclusion.
I wanted to try a Republican era cdrama, but they have this bad habit of killing off MCs. I can't stand to fall…
Since you mentioned Wei Wuxian's casting, I also Adore XZ of course. I recently discovered Chen Xing Xu through Goodbye My Princess, where he charmes and devastates. He has such duality as an actor that I actually thought he's the first person besides XZ who could due Wei Wuxian justice. Perhaps, his WW would be even darker. Goodby My princess is an extraordinary drama, but there's a reason most people don't recommend it, so you can look it up. Now I'm a huge fan of Cheng Xing Xu and following all his new works.
And of course everything with Xiao Zhan. I'm wondering what you thought of Douluo Continent? Ending didn't give me tears, but now I"m just wondering if/when we'll get a sequel.
Thank you for this interesting article.I have just finished watching Nirvana in Fire yesterday. :DWell, I havent…
I agree with you about NIrvana in Fire, I can see that it deserves its high rating and I liked the main lead, but wasn't as personally invested. However, I watched Stand by Me which had a lot of similarities to Nirvana in Fire, yet I felt much more drawn to the main young emperor, played by Cheng Yi. Also it had a lot more action and back-and-forth between heroes in villains taking turns winning and losing, so was more exciting. Hoping more people will discover Stand by Me.
I hope you enjoy Joy of Life, I liked every single character appearing in it, and can't wait for the sequels! Even with the cliffhanger ending, I've watched the last 8 episodes at least 3 times.
Did you read Mao Ni's novels? JOL and EN are his works ;D
My mind is blown! Those are two of my favorite dramas, and the two I've thought of reading in english (however I thought Ever Night was not finished being translated). Somehow I missed that they were by the same author. Joy of Life i'm holding out until season 2 and 3 air, then I might read the original. In light of this, can you recommend any others that are well-translated into English, if you know? I like the wuxia genre.
I see so many posts praising Evernight. I'm kinda interested in watching it now, what was the thing you liked…
Everything Juiper rules said. The main character is quite charismatic, talented, with a devil-may-care attitude, but has a soft spot. You have to know season 1 ends mid-action and you HAVE to watch season 2, which switches lead actors. An excruciating change, but actually I like each actor in his own way. The Evernight poster put me off thinking it was a low-quality story, but the first episode blew me away.
I've discovered I like wuxia and also, that the most popular dramas are not always my favorite (like xanxia aren't favorites), so some of my favorites are lower rated. I like action, smart heroes and villains, fantasy elements, high-powered characters, and happy endings though not everything below has those, to be fair: The Untamed Stand by Me (starring Chen Yi) Ever Night 1 and 2 Joy of Life Legend of Awakening Listening Snow tower The Flame's Daughter Love in Between Sword Dynasty World of Fantasy
Another short 2020 movie not listed here is Wolf Killing Action, on IQ.com with Eng subs. It's like a long tv episode, Chen Xing Xu plays an ex-military guy who joins the hunt against a criminal who killed his commander. The story is simple, but Chen Xing Xu has some good action scenes, and by the end I was feeling the stakes.
According to reports, the shooting of season 2 should begin this October (days from now or maybe in one or two…
This drama is making me crazy waiting for it! I love each and every character so much, the two actors I most want to reprise their roles are for Fan Xian and Yan Bingyun, but really I want everyone. The ending of season 1 haunts me every time I think of it, and I want them to pick up immediately at that point as if no time has passed. Holding off on any novel reading to avoid spoilers.
Here is a question, the only drama of Cheng Yi's I've not watched is Legend of chusen/Noble Aspirations. I don't really want to watch the whole thing, but are there certain episodes or parts of the series you could recommend that have the most of Cheng Yi's character? Otherwise I may end up skimming it for his parts, but that is not ideal. Thanks@
