Almost skipped this because of disappointing trailer, but then, series later, I attempted to watch a few other…

Thus death here doesn't mean death forever and he or she might be resurrected or reborn. In this drama, only Yue Mi and Zi Han did not return. In the original books, they enter incarnation circle and were reborn in other books. However, their death in this drama is kind of price that Tianqi had to pay for his mistakes and recklessness. - Bai Jue's intention and plan is to resurrect Shang Gu and give her a peaceful life as he wish before her disperse (in eps 15), take the Chaos Tribulation for her. He did not plan any love tangle with her in the 2nd life. He didn't want her to become Chief God again because she would make the same choice if she knew the chaos tribulation did not disappear . Qing Mu and their tangle was his accident that is out of his estimation and control. - when Baijue said farewell to he,: he got into her dream or her consciousness . She did not awake at that time. - He did everything for her. it is man's thought to take control and did not want to gamble. Furthermore, dying for living beings to terminate the Chaos Tribulation is Chief God's fate which had been decided by the Ancestral God. Thus how did he dare to ask the Ancestral god to return her- the Chief God? However in Shang Gu's case, she had no other choice. Bringing him back is out of her ability and the only one who could do it was the Ancestral God. He did it for her, for all the living beings in the world. It was not his fate or responsibility to do it. Thus, she asked for his rebirth because of his sacrifice, her obeyance (she did sacrifice once too) and begged for Ancestral God's mercy

A moment later, he jokes, “The last time I pulled so many all-nighters was back in the day when I was a kid, going to internet cafés.” What initially drew Xu Kai to Moonlit Reunion was the subject matter. “The supernatural genre is interesting and fresh,” he says. “The costumes, makeup, and sets are all beautiful, with a strong atmospheric vibe.” This project also marked the first time Xu Kai used a partial wig that incorporated some of his own hair. While the look was both practical and stylish, cleaning it afterward was a real hassle. “They used so much hairspray every day that I could never get my hair fully clean,” he says. Xu Kai’s latest project is a historical costume drama — one whose script he also finds especially interesting. Over the past year, he’s taken on a range of diverse roles: from the supernatural period Moonlit Reunion, to the modern crime thriller Fire Investigator, and the suspenseful Within 800 Meters. “Right now, I happen to feel like returning to historical costume dramas again.” And so, this timely collaboration came to life — just when the moment felt right.
After joining the new filming team, Xu Kai first had a face-to-face conversation with the director, where they exchanged their perceptions of the script “We try to find a balance,” he says. “Once we’re on the same page, we start fleshing out the details and adding a few elements that might give the character extra edge.” Before shooting begins, Xu Kai always prepares detailed notes, filling in what the script leaves unsaid. “For example, I’ll think about the character’s background or past. In my mind, I need to build a structure, so that when it comes time to shoot, I have enough material to communicate, and to improvise with flexibility”.
After completing the preparations, Xu Kai will discuss again with the director and screenwriters to confirm whether his own ideas will affect the direction of the character's design. "It is likely no matter, as long as you don’t push it too far," Xu Kai shared with us. For example, in his new drama, he plays a high-ranking official in the court who is thoughtful, calculating, and handles situations calmly and rationally. Xu Kai will reflect on: "What has he gone through? What shaped his current personality?" Once having imagined these elements, he could preliminarily grasp the overall spirit of the script.
