Continuing after binge watching season 1

This time story was more concrete and grey. As leng li left zuan'ar in the end of previous season, this season started with their patch up (after a leap of two years).. the plot which centred the lead characters in the previous season, gradually shifted towards the other characters. Side stories, mysterious and conspiracies are addressed. I felt the plot was a little fast paced but it was the short drama format so you can't complain.

The best thing i found about this story was the writer literally wrote the plot UNFILTERED, the wrong doing of the vamps and villains are punished with something as severe as Rape and murder.

A little side note: I PERSONALLY DONT LIKE SOME WRITERS' TAKE ON THE PUNISHMENT OF A VAMP WHO PLOTS TO GET THE FEMALE LEAD RAPED, THEY EITHER BE FORGIVEN OR ARE NOT BEING HOLD ACCOUNTABLE ENOUGH ...WHICH SENDS A WRONG MSG TO THE SOCIETY THAT IF A WOMAN IS INVOLVED IN GETTING THE WOMAN RAPED SHE SHOULD BE TREATED SOFTLY JUST BECAUSE SHE IS A 'WOMAN' .... NOW THAT WE COME ACROSS SO MANY HEINOUS RAPE CASES IN OUR REAL SOCIETY, THE WRITERS' MUST TAKE A RESPONSIBLE APPROACH AND GIVE A STRONG MSG AGAINST SUCH CRIMES THROUGH THEIR STORIES NO MATTER IF THE CULPRIT WAS A MALE OR FEMALE.

Cast was same only 1-2 new characters were introduced.
Music was same ,nice ost

Totally worth watching

Wang yu zi and wen moyan factor did the job for me

I am so damn impressed by wang yu zi's performance in every period drama .. this man is born to be the ML of period dramas PERIOD !
he captures the essences of his character on a different level and blessed with his looks je actually gives that kind and generous emperor like vibes.
As far as wen moyan is concerned, she is a terrific actress I saw her performance in 'your trap' and her role was so sensuous and seductive. Whereas in this one she is portraying a cute and lovely girl ( with revenge feeling on the side ways) .. Though I personally felt her chemistry with weng yu zi was outstanding better than with any other actor.

The side characters (cast) was equally talented and good-looking especially the female characters ( Xu'ar, li' sister, chinqui, chen'mother)

The story itself was quite interesting and the way its plot is executive made it even more addicting. The pace was consistent and there were no boring and unnecessary scenes. Though this season doesn't unfolds a lot about the conspiracies and is more centred on leng ki and xuan'er's character.

There were comparatively less fight scenes and the choreography of these fight scenes was not impressive but it's okay, as that wasn't even the demand of this story.

Opening sound track was good, very soothing and quite apt for the theme.

Over all this was a great drama that I can recommend with holding back .. you can define give it a try (it also has season 2)

Deserves every bit of its 20 M YouTube views ..

Short ..feel good ..romance ..light comedy ,best package for a binge watch. The plot has twists but not the type that entangle with each other ,dragged to 20 episodes and bring the whole story down ... There is a OG contract fiancee soft lovestory surrounded by all sort of pranks and conspiracy but they are being solved simultaneously keeping the freshness in the story intact ...

I loved the way this series portrayed the emotions of a homosexual boy for a straight person and I loved none of them very unapologetic about their feelings ... We often talk of China as a country of controlled speech ..but in this particular case I must say it better to be unapologetic than being called Homo-phobic just for being straight (like we do in west)

Cast was lovely .. FL has appeared in support roles in a couple of shows I have seen . Her performance as a FL was very good ... ML character is sweet and charismatic... Played extremely well by the boy ...

On the whole I can NOT pick any reason to criticize this show ...
Worth a re-watch : yes

Waiting for the next season . <3

Weak roles but compensated by stunning performance by actors (forced tragic end)

The story is little and slow paced .. ridiculed by the back story that hardly makes any sense cause no matter how much you love someone but you won't put sword to your own child's neck to avenge their death ...
Secondly the cast was amazing .. specially both leads ..the looks the acting the chemistry everything was really really good ...
Though the FL lead character is quite anti-lead in a nutshell but as far as her acting performance is concerned I am totally impressed.

The ending was a little forced I suppose cause honestly for genre in the beginning of the show nobody would have expected this type of ending but anyway I don't mind sad ending but this one looks forced tragic ..

Overall watchable but don't watch it if you are into happy endings...
Re-watch value : double zero ... As what's the point of watching something so sad again and again ..

Chen Fang Tong and Dai Gao Zhang 's another captivating HIT

Chen Fang tong and dai Gao Zhang have extremely excellent chemistry ... They have worked together in numerous mini series and all of them were good ... And I think chen fang has put on some weight during the series and she looking stunning in her curves ... Dai Gao is of course forever handsome ... The plot revolves around a blind heiress who is surrounded by back stabbers ..her fiance is a big time fraud who is cheating with her friend behind her back and wants to take over her father's company by transferring her chunk of shares ... Meanwhile ML has some old time score to be settled with FL father and his group ...so he is approaching her with a sole motive of winning her trust into obtaining the evidence to support his father's case ... What I liked about the show is the gradual pace of the affection that slowly blossoms and builds into a beautiful love story ..how irrespective of all the grudges he still lives up to his principles and help her through the most panic situation .... Like the safety alarm pendant he gives her ... Seriously that was a beautiful gesture like once it beeps no matter what he will come this her rescue ..

For us in the real life people won't come to our rescue even when they claim to love us ..right ??? Love in real life is such a hard bet you are most likely to lose ... And there we see these dramas where he came to rescue his enemy's daughter....SO UNREAL

Stories and drama are more or less the same but still some hit differently ..this drama was a delight ...

One hundred percent worth watching ...

Why is this so bizzare

The show is watchable... Though a little cringe at times but more or less watchable ... I wish the character of FL were played by someone else ...cheng Xiao is very cute but her acting sucks ... Her expressions are quite FLAT ... You don't believe me watch it again ... She has literally two expressions ... Normal eye face and wide open eye face ... 2 /10 points for her acting. Xu Kai was fine... I genuinely think he was better in his other dramas like the wonderland of love , the legends and dance of the sky empire .. moreover I think he has yet to take on something challenging like modern crime- thriller he is better suited for playing cops and undercover agents yet he plays these lousy characters. Pfft!!! What a waste.

Either way a good show to watch ...nice time pass ..but even if you skip you are not missing on anything important.

Worth rewatching: NOPE

Don't judge the series just by initial few episodes..

The plot is rather frustrating & slow paced at the beginning as we see ML dies without doing much and FL hopelessly bullied by even the servants of the household.I thought of dropping it around episode 8 glad I didn't.
As anyone would expect the return of ML to life and taking it further with the revenge ...but to my surprise first half was totally about FL avenging her husband's death, all alone.
HONESTLY THIS WAS NEW AND THE BEST THING ABOUT THE STORY.

in the first half, she SINGLEHANDEDLY won against the villian. her planning, execution, devotion and focus to the target was commendable, like she was willing to even give away her body to serve her revenge WHAT A BEAUTIFULLY DARK FL 🖤
The story had some very sensitive plots break like rape and assault to the point of miscarriage but I believe not every story can serve the purpose of fairytale.some series are better off without vanilla romance

Huge appreciation to Vincent who played this disgusting to the core psychopath rapist villian.

Pre world war era .. 1937-1945 sino Japan war time setting.

It is my first time watching something that expresses pre world war era with chinese POV ... It is always the west countries who propagate their narrative of the world war.... So in my opinion the theme was very refreshing to those who have intellect to feel it... Other than that there was one more thing that I found very impressive is the FL character ... Her potential ..her strong will ..her intelligence ... I love the way she kept her mission over everything .... She is an inspiration for thousands of girls out there who just look for a chance to give up on their already good for nothing career just to get laid ... No offense but we need more of such character to show the world what real feminism means ...
ML was amazing as ever I have seen him in a couple of shows and the characters like marshal ... Governor ..etc actually suit him him ...the authority of a strong character actually appears through him quite effortlessly ...

After reading few review I çame to understand some people found the ending quite confusing .. actually after death of general Yamamoto Japanese had to postpone the war ..which gave qin city enough time me to call for extra troops that led to their victory in the region after just a few months of struggle .. As the FL says winter has started ...we will meet when the spring bloom .." hope this helps 💖🙏💖🙏

The drama in my opinion is worth watching I beleive anyone can put atleast one reason forward to appreciate the beautiful story ...

(Of course not for those who are living in a bubble and treat every love story as soft porn )

Neo said "TRUST ME" and I did .....

Right from the moment this drama was announced,I was already screaming “take my time!”. It was all over my insta feed ... Neo finally getting a good female lead? At last my prayers are answered ✨✨ For the last few dramas, my poor boy was suffering from tragic screen-time cuts and horrible Fl who had the emotional range of wet toast. I will not speak much cause then the fan girls will start a war against me ... but hallelujah, both those curses have been lifted. Lu Yu Xiao entered like a GOWDESS (using my international accent here) ~ stunning, expressive, mamma Mia ... hands-down one of my favourite actresses, an absolute show-stealer.

now let's dive into the details:

🌸 PLOT :
Butter smooth , Fluffy Like a Cloud

The storyline glides beautifully i mean I experienced no dull moments, okay there was some misunderstanding stretched into 15 episodes but I don't mind it personally, overall it is soft mix of humor, mystery, and action, with layered conspiracy. NiCe !!!

The real showstopper, though? Sisterhood. 🙌
For once, no jealous vamps, no “he’s mine!” nonsense... just women supporting women sharing genuine, warm bonds.. ahh !! Like a breath of fresh air.
Can we please make this the new trend? Yes THANK YOU 🫶

🎭 Characters:
Buffet of Brilliance ... I can't have somany favourites in one pot but here I have ...

1. ML (Ji Bozai )- Smart, kind, and heartbreakingly good-looking. Despite his tragic childhood and his inability to trust people .. he’s not that typical revenge-driven hero. He’s calm, focused, thoughtful and deliciously balanced, a perfect male lead material.

2. FL (Ming yi)– Beauty with brains with a dash of chaos. She’s no damsel waiting for rescue — she’s the one lighting the torch, decisively choosing her path , and occasionally outsmarting the hero. Even when poisoned, she stands stronger than most people on their best day both physically and emotionally.

3. Princess Tianji – Now that’s a queen arc done right. Betrayed, sidelined, and still managing to hold her crown without dropping her grace. Though she gets her person of interest in the end but honestly her love story wasn't as appealing as Watching her evolve from heartbreak to empowerment was ...... She embodies the modern spirit of women ~ wise, wounded, but walking tall.

4. Twenty-Seven – the adorable cat familiar. Sassy, loyal, and constantly on the edge of trouble. Basically the emotional support cat we all need.
PS : I used to have a cat, she refused to give even 2 damns about me in the overall span of 1.5 years she stayed with me. Get me thinking if the cat familiar can be so faithful?

5. Zhang tai ~ the ride-or- die bestie and emotional support warrior every heroic FL deserves...

6. Buxiu : ML’s dragon familiar, the blunt truth-bomb dispenser who deserves his own spin-off show, honestly.

🎬 CAST:
no weak links or Overshadowing

Neo Hao (HMH) : My forever favourite! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: my boy is pure talent plus kawaii pro max . His expressions, his voice, his intensity just lovely .. And I am glad he finally got a role worthy of his range. He’s charming, intense, and this time, he turned up the heat to “passionate lover mode”,Those kissing scenes? Phew.!!!!! 🔥 (Source : ep 23 first 10 min)

Lu Yu Xiao: My girl crush, my goddess of expressions. From assassin in My Journey to You to bubbly businesswoman in Perfect Match, she has played a good bandwidth of role genres. Awesome !! For someone her age.
Her chemistry with Neo felt quite natural, Their comedic timing .. good .. emotional sync ..chef's kiss 💋

And the side cast deserves a whole standing ovation too , familiar faces like Quan Yilun, Hu Yunhao, and Hu Caihong.Pretty decent IMO

👘 Styling:
Very xianxia in every bit.

high-budget fantasy elegance ,. Flowing gowns, detailed embroidery, graceful hairdos, reflecting the same vibe like cult fav LBFAD, TTEOTM and Moonlight Mystique glamorous and fantasy perfect.

🏯 SET DESIGN AND VISUAL APPEAL:
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen most of these sets before, but the CGI and VFX team made them look brand new. The floating boats aesthetics? Seemed something well thought... The whole world looked realistic with least to nil green-screen awkwardness.

🎵 MUSIC:
Beautiful, But Missing that 'WOW' track.

The OST is soft and soulful (extra love for the one sung by Neo himself 🥰)., But I wish there was one standout track that makes you say, “That’s the Love in the Clouds song.” you know like the one that sticks in your head long after the finale. So overall music is lovely, but not legendary. May be they could have used a sa dingding track here

💭 Final Thoughts:

I had high hopes for this drama and I am more than satisfied. i thought I will not get anything better than Moonlight mistique this year ... (Thanks to feud makers) But this one just made me happier.

✨Totally, completely, and unapologetically recommended. ☁️💫

From story of BORING palace to story of LOVING palace

Well !! I would have rated this show a solid 9 if it weren't for the boring first half. No doubt the story is good, but the way it is written failed to impress me ... The issue is stated on the screen pretty much within the first two episodes after that they are just beating around the bush with absolutely no rigid substance being added the development of the story . Honestly I thought of dropping this drama a multiple times but I like bailu a lot so I kept going.

Around Episode 18 the plot picks up some momentum and remains the same till the end.

There is nothing much to pin point about the casting as all actors including leads are veterans and they known how to deliver the best.previously I wasn't much of a fan of the ML actor but he was amazing in his role here ..I guess I like him now ❤️❤️❤️ ok might as well check his other shows.

Ost was just so-so.
Rewatch value ..well that's subjective.. If i were ever to watch it again I might skip ep 3-17r

Not bad ..Not spellbinding..

The initial 6-7 episodes, I was this🤏close to ghosting this drama. Why? Because it opened with the most overused xianxia starter pack ever. ML lying unconscious in his core for a century in the middle of nowhere, only to be awakened by the FL. This savior is conveniently a lookalike of his ex lover who betrayed him and killed him. Add the usual human vs demon feud with elf, fairy and immortals making wildcard entries, opportunists of both sides taking advantage of the situation to exploit the innocent ones.
The storyline feels like a neatly stitched quilt made from leftover pieces of popular xianxia dramas, Literally everything felt like hitting a Deja vu.
Anyways Episode 9 onwards the plot starts taking shape.. it's not like you will escape the cliches but they will be less obvious at this point.

Now, let’s talk cast. HMH is my favorite, no debate. His acting, his voice, his screen presence, chef’s kiss. But compared to the emotional hurricane he was in Love in the Clouds, here he feels… restrained. Subtle is fine, but some expressions feel oddly flat. Especially those past-life romance scenes with Niag’an. I’ve seen this man look at a co-star like the world stops spinning, but here the gaze felt vacant, almost awkward. His character in the drama is also TOO direct, there is nothing much to do apart from reciting the dialogues with a straight face and shedding a tear or two every now and then..
This is my first Tang Song Yun drama,She’s good, very convincing, especially her youthful and childlike voice. Since this is my only exposure to her work, I won’t overanalyze. She’s doing her job well, and I’m content. Her character is charming , naughty , smart and willful just the right blend and she is doing a good justice to it.

The chemistry between the two is okay-ish, Not skipping-a-beat-type dynamic. Felt flat cause there was not enough buildup to justify their 'sudden spark of love '.

Ironically, the supporting cast and guest appearances stole more of my attention...Wang Duo, Chen Xing Hai, Wang Xi Wei and especially Zhou Li Ying, her character has not even been introduced properly and she is already overshadowing the FL.

Technically, the drama delivers as much as it could with that stolen fragments of storytelling. Fight scenes look more like casting-spells magical rather than mechanical. The CGI sets are gorgeous, especially the demon realm. Pink glowing grass, silvery skies, glittery blue waters, tiny living herbs with baby houses. Cute overload 🥰❤️ Styling and wardrobe though? Meh. Very safe, very recycled. I’ve seen this look before in LBFAD and Sword and Fairy. Nothing fresh.
And the BGM was good which is again similar to a very popular xianxia, IYKYK (hint : Xu kai is the lead)
So yeah, for now, I’m holding on for the cast and praying the plot finds its spine.

PS: I will edit this review if things improve.

Edit: things didn't improve .. instead gotten worse ..so i dropped the rating to a seven... I am sorry but that's the best I can give to this drama.

I was expecting more

This story might be good on its own ..but as a continuation to its season 1 .. the plot turned into a big disappointment. core cast is totally ignored their character are left untouched with no apparent development. The whole season is circling around a girl who sweats ..vomits and even poops poison .. ( and yeah the furnace boy with GOD COMPLEX) .. I understand this all was part of the comic/book plot but watching this one directional plot after a long wait of one to one and a half year feels disappointing .. I was really looking forward to a rigid development... .

I missed wang ye (Neo huo to be exact) wish he had longer screen time ( can't help it's the book plot 😭😭😭)

Moving forward, the pace of the plot is not very impressive either, which was the case with the previous season as well but that was compensated by the pinch of entertainment provided by the martial art tournament. Unfortunately this season doesn't have any such element just too blend and tasteless.

Though this factor doesn't make much of a difference but ost in this season didn't create the magic as the one in the previous season did ... Honestly if you ask me this ost sounds like a chaotic concoction of sounds ,very displeasing.. (can be skipped anyway)

It might be good on its own but the previous season set such high standards that just good wasn't enough. Anyways we are still left with 4 episodes Who knows a surprise is awaiting us.

Demon buffet

I started this drama just for the lead ~~ Xu Kai and Tian Xiwei ...and my god !! What a duo .... ❤️🫶
Two years ago, I even commented on Xu Kai’s Instagram wishing he’d work with Tian Xiwei and Zhou Ye. I never thought it’d actually happen, but here we are... and frankly speaking it passed all my expectations .

Other aspects :

Plot : in the beginning it felt like 'warm on the cold night' plot detective-y and suspenseful (with gender roles reversed) but soon diverged into demon catching ..further good vs evil ~ save the world plot. Though overall pace was consistent but somewhere around ep 20-26 the unveiling of events slowed I was literally thinking of dropping it here but I didn't ... Anyway after crossing an entire 5-7 episode long valley of boredom .. plot moved ...felt a little rushed at last but at least every important issue was addressed.
Loopholes : black snake demon was in prison for 100 years yet he had hatred against FL cat lord who became a demon 18 years ago ( i can't understand why ?? If you know please feel free to explain in the comments)

Cast :

Tian xi wei : girl is being criticised for her acting in GOTD (though I liked her a lot) but with this performance she must have silenced her haters. She added a good pinch of mature seduction to her original playful and sweet aura this time and delivered a good chemistry with Xu kai.

As far as the character of Wu Zhen is concerned, I loved this female protagonist, but I’m sorry — she wasn’t my favorite. Her never-ending forgive-all streak irritated me a lot. People were conspiring right under her nose, and she was ignoring them like

Xu Kai: brilliant!!! Outstanding!!! Mesmerizing!!! But honestly, this is like his fourth or fifth drama with the same aura, just in a different shade. Every single time it’s the same loop: he meets the FL, falls fast, messes up because of some compulsive obsessive/ revenge vendetta, she leaves, he becomes brutal to mend things , and then happy ending. Wonderland of Love, Ancient Love Poetry, Dance of the Sky Empire, and now this one. My boy’s officially typecast! I’m just relieved he’s doing a crime thriller next ... finally, some fresh air for him and us.

Rest cast and guest appearances were good as well.

Music: Ringtone-worthy OST totally ticks the vibe check with this thrilling plot.

Set design: exquisite and very detailed along with realistic green screen scenes takes the watching experience to a whole different level.
CGi special effects were great

Styling is a fusion of wuxia ( lords and dukes and xianxia ( demon and immortal) which is rarely seen.

In a nutshell, this drama was pure entertainment ... full of fun, drama, and charm. Sure, the middle episodes dragged a bit, but overall? Totally worth the watch. It keeps you hooked enough to forgive those slow moments.

Recommended ❤️

GEUDAENEUN HABGYEOG (you pass)

Okay, first things first—this drama had me hooked from the get-go. Not because of the romance (which, let’s be real, was as underwhelming as a half-baked pancake), but because of the sheer chaos, bromance, and absolute fashion madness. If you’re here for a unique fantasy story, congratulations, you’re in the right place. But if you’re here for an epic, swoon-worthy love story… well, let's just say you might find yourself distracted by literally everything else in the drama.

Bromance > Romance

The bromance between Son Oh Gong (our monkey king) and Ma Wang (the bull demon) was the real MVP here. These two were constantly at each other’s throats, throwing insults and furniture, yet still had the most unbreakable bond. Ma Wang, with his theatrical expressions and over-the-top reactions, was basically me when my food delivery is late. Oh Gong, on the other hand, was all sass and mischief but had a weirdly charming way of showing he cared. Their interactions alone made the whole show worth it.

Bu Ja - The True Star

Now, let’s talk about my precious zombie girl, Jin Bu Ja (aka Ah Sa Nyeo). She was adorable, tragic, hilarious, and somehow at the center of everyone’s lives. Her interactions with literally every character were more interesting than the supposed "main romance." Watching her navigate her fate, get tangled in magical nonsense, and even steal some hearts along the way was one of the best parts of the drama.

The Fashion Game Was Unreal

Forget the supernatural creatures and demon-slaying—let’s talk about the outfits. Every single male character looked like they just walked out of a high-fashion runway show. Son Oh Gong’s coats? Legendary. Ma Wang’s flashy suits? Iconic. Even their sleepwear was straight-up chef’s kiss perfection. Like, do these guys even own a single bad outfit? I swear, their wardrobe budget was bigger than the CGI budget.

Speaking of the CGI...

Ah, yes. The special effects. There were moments when I was impressed, and then there were moments when I had to pause just to process what I was seeing. Some of the magical creatures looked like they had escaped from a 2005 video game, and yet, it all somehow worked? Maybe because the drama itself was so extra that it just fit the vibe.

Repetitive Plot Syndrome

As much as I love this drama, I have to be honest—some plot points went in circles. Like, how many times can the same villain manipulate the same two characters with the same fake promises? We got it, move on. There were moments I wanted to scream, "Bestie, we’ve been here before!" But did that stop me from watching? Absolutely not.

The FL Was… There.

Now, about the female lead. Poor thing. It’s not even her fault—her character was written like an afterthought. She spent most of the show crying, getting into trouble, and being rescued. At one point, I genuinely forgot she was the main character because the side characters were outshining her left and right. The drama tried to make her "strong" by giving her some mystical powers, but even then, she just felt… bland.

The Real Show-Stealers

Let’s be honest, the true stars of the show were:

Ma Wang – A literal drama king with the best expressions.

Jin Bu Ja – My adorable zombie girl.

Dog Secretary (Lee El) – The most loyal and savage assistant ever.

These three carried the show on their backs, and I loved every second of it.

The OST Had Me in a Chokehold

The background music was immaculate. "Always Behind You" has been living in my head rent-free ever since I finished the drama. The songs just hit, especially during the emotional scenes (even when I wasn’t emotionally invested in the romance).

Final Verdict

Despite its flaws, A Korean Odyssey made it onto my favorites list. The magic, the chaos, the fashion, and the side characters made it an unforgettable ride. Will I rewatch it? Absolutely. Will I fast-forward through some parts? Also absolutely. But hey, that’s part of the charm.

Lackluster!! To put it nicely

The show is extremely boring especially the first 5 episodes were so annoying.. i personally hate the plots where one gender is given baised amount of spotlight. Take this drama for example ... The FL is out to avenge her brother ... But her plans ..her strategy ..her overall execution is so damn lame ..I mean you wanna enter a party and you have no preparation to obtain its gate pass you seduce a random Stranger and by default his pass was there in left pocket you get it and you enter .... Seriously writer you want us to believe this crap. ?!! As if this nonsense wasn't enough we get an over smart Ex FBI agent ML who reaches absolutely any place to turn the FL plans into big failure... At some point I was wondering if this invisible omnipresent ML might as well appear in my room ... Honestly speaking the entire show is bogus but first 5 episodes were intensely unbearable.
The Character of FL is third class .. she is told to be a genius but her actions ... She walks into the obvious traps like a retard ... Has no survival skills and if it weren't for the ML she might have died before the drama even started.
ML character .another boring one ... Type of role that you forget withing 30 min of watching the show ..
There was one more shocking thing about the plot ... There is no normal parent here ..every parent is using their child either for business or for money ..no normal parenthood.. insane right?

Lead actors are okay ..FL is good looking her acting is okay .. ML not impressive.. this was my first time watching him ..and i already have enough.

Ost was good ..as per the theme of the show... quite apt..but plot is so mediocre that even fine BGM couldn't help .

You can watch this or you can watch paint dry. Truth me both have same satisfaction
