I only watched the two first trailers, and they were misleading.

I definitely agree, the transition was very rushed indeed.
But to be honest, many others things bothered me too... I'm too lazy to list them here, but to summarize my opinion, I will say that the drama does not give us enough scenes focusing on the psychology of the characters.
They give us dramatic and violent flashbacks of the story then show us them being attracted to each other... then falling in love instead of really letting us see what's going on in their minds, how grey their thoughts can be, how they managed their their paradoxical emotions etc, we don't see any introspection too..
Their traumas in the drama is just a tool to describe the characters...and to explain their connection.
To put it simply, the drama isn't going deep.

"Maybe the people who want to get inspired and have their heart flutter aren't the target audience here? Not every romance is a teenage inspiration story."

I completely agree, the introduction to the drama was deliberately misleading motivated by a marketing strategy, I talked about it a few days ago in the comments section, I was still having a little hope tho ...

I'm glad I'm not alone feeling this way ...
I'm lowkey disappointed for Liu Xue Yi, his acting is really good but this drama isn't good enough, hopefully he'll get better first roles ...

Maybe more action will keep me up but honestly the villain of the story (the crown prince) is making me so cringe, I don't like how Baron is acting in this drama lol, he's always making those caricatural expressions ... 😅

Maybe some people should really work on their comprehension skills before commenting to try to look smart... Since when having heart fluttering scenes have to do only with romantic scenes??
My heart can flutter with profond scenes and even random ones ... and without characters having to share a romantic scene lmao ... Fluttering moments aren't about superficial appearances but about the connection to a sincere feeling that moves you !

I was not expecting the writing to be that cringy and pathetic ... where is the complexity, where is the deepness?? I still want to know the ending, but I'm struggling to finish the drama ...

The acting is good, the chemistry is nice but the writing is meh, I see no beauty in term of an artistic point of view, but I also see no actual meaning in the unfolding of the story, what is the goal?
Two people having huge communication skills, unable to face each others needs ... Yeah, it's realistic and then what? What is it that we can take with us? Nothing is truly inspiring, no scene that are actually heart flutering, we aren't learning anything that special ... What's the point?
And what 6 episodes is going to do do? Nothing.
I don't get it ....

The thing is that in the drama, very clearly, the Marquis reproduces the same pattern of violence that not only caused the loss of his sight but also the loss of his mei mei ...
Instead of acting differently, he only reproduces and participates in the same destructive violence ... for the sake of proving himself something, and he's not seeing he's losing himself in that vicious cycle ...
I like how grey he was during the 20 first eps, but seeing him later hurting LYN and being so vicious toward her brother (and he knows she loves dearly) is way too disgusting for me to think he can be redeemed.
He crossed the line that shouldn't be crossed.

He's only just focussed on himself and his pain. That's what really matter to him (at least in the drama), himself.

I just finished ep.24 and tbh the scenes with the 2nd ml harassing the 1st fl are far too excessive and repetitive, he's not only obsessed but only care about himself, his feelings, his anger, his emotions etc
Not only he's ready to hurt her to reveal her identity, but he also hurts her tobe able to catch Luo Shen Yuan ... Yikes. What kind of love is that?!
If he thinks that she's indeed his mei mei then why does he treats the brother of the woman he loves so badly, he doesn't even have a single thought about her feelings, he doesn't even question how cruel it is for her, geez it doesn't make sense...
Ci Sha is doing great, he's truly make us understand the injustice his character went through but he also makes us despise him very well lol !

It's been years since I lost all confidence in reviews and ratings on Douban, when I realized that the majority of this audience tends to rate a drama very simply because it meets the "niche" characteristics, a pseudo elitism which is actually just a matter of appearance, and not a matter of sincere appreciation.
But I do believe Douban still give merits and highlight dramas that deserves so therefore I decided to try this drama.
I watched the first 10 eps but I have no motivation to continue.
The ideas and themes are very honorable and inspiring, however the conception of this drama has nothing interesting in its global construction, the directing is very very basic, there is no artistic element... which bothers me , because imo a drama must include some, even if the writing is good.
The narration also bothers me, I find the rhythm monolithic, there is no movement in the writing that would allow a necessary focus in the nuances of the psychology of the characters.
You can very easily feel that the goal of the drama is to follow a precise guideline/goal/aspiration... and it feels very forced. The way the story is told and filmed has no natural substance ... You can feel they want the drama to be seen a particular way ... you know the very inspirational kind of one (just like Mr Sunshine tried to be and failed). They want you to cry so bad but it isn't working for me, I'm way too sensible of those kinda of forced tricks to be able to find the story real (even if the storyline is definitely realitic and also happened in real life).

To conclude my observations, I would add that the drama is very "academic" in its construction, which makes me understand why the drama gained that high rating on Douban .
Unfortunately, I was not able to connect with the characters despite such honorable themes, if they would pick another director for a new adaptation, I would definitely tune in.
