Nah... dont like him. He knows his wife doesnt get along with her family. He knows she was forced to marry him. With all the trouble he went through to ask for a divorce, he could have just made an arrangement with her. She's a business woman. She wants money and freedom. She trapped the ML bc she felt trapped (as we know shes the type to say if I am to suffer, everyone will). So all he had to do was appease her. But the ML is a general. He likes to fight and make victory and defeat clear. Even when its a scorned woman. I dont hate the guy but to me theres nothing interesting or admirable about him yet. He's just the ML bc he winds up with the FL.

Yea obviously if the situation was different... it would be a different situation lol. I hate when people try to make comparisons between men an women like its not a totally different context. Especially in ancient times. Ofc we'd be upset that a rich man with a bunch of power killed his secret lover. 1)It's not that scandalous for him to have a mistress. Its only scandalous for a woman to do it. 2) His lover would not have the title of a respected scholar like this male lover did, so she would not get away with this scandal unharmed like the male lover could.

You mean the lover who betrayed her and claimed that she seduced him? Do you know what the punishment was for a married woman to seduce a scholar? Death. He tried to kill her. Ofc she'd get her revenge.

....So am I the only one rooting for the villain? The ML really did her dirty. He treated her like she is a representative of her family when he knows she has a bunch of animosity towards them. With a bit of compassion, he probably could have flipped her to his side. All she wanted was money and to run away to be with the one she loved. That could have been arranged by the ML. It would have been less work and less risk to work with her than go to war with her.

I get your point....but would definitely hesitate in comparing the slavery in the US and the Carribean with other types of slavery.

I hope he isnt. I think theres a chance he was rescued in time by Prince Ding's subordinate who saw his body. They may have pretended he died so he can recover and then turn against his father. I think he might have made it bc they didnt show his love interest Ting Lan have any reaction to the news. I get she is someone who is familiar with political drama, but I feel like she would have to give some reaction. I think the other son will also turn against the Marquis and the 2 sons who originally didnt get along will team up to help bring him down. Again, this is just my hope. He might be gone fr.

In the first scene of the series as she runs into her room after being chased by monkeys, we see the courtyard she passes through is unkempt, all the plants are dead, dead leaves are scattered everywhere and probably haven't been swept away in years, the pools are grey and shallow and the doors were falling off the hinge with the paper torn. When her senior climbs the mountain it looks like he sees a similar scene... so we probably wont know until tomorrow or the day after but it looks like our theory is being proven correct. She was probably all alone for years.

My guess is that after those other students were executed, other students probably left, died of disease, and then it was her, a few elderly scholars and her young maid left. With the academy closed off and no other young able-bodied students everyone else probably passed until it was just her left.

It's good. But if you dont like mystery dramas, or dont like a little bit of confusion, you might want to wait until all the episodes are out. Theres lots of plot twists which makes it very interesting to me and most of the people here, but I can see people who like a story to be straightforward getting annoyed lol.

I love when dramas have extremely unreliable narrators. It adds mystery without taking away from the other genres of the story. The FL is clearly very smart and capable, but she's also delusional. She has a mission of revenge and is very scheming but at some point, her declining mental health is bound to get in the way.

I think it helps that her husband has his own revenge journey and it is intertwined with her own. Do you guys think he has realized how scheming she is yet? I know he's figured out she's very complex and clearly is doing more than taking care of the household....but do you think he's realized shes the mastermind he was trying to find?

idk, dramas have even referenced people eating corpses to stay alive, let alone animals doing it.

I feel like he wasn't directly responsible for what happened to them, but he had an opprotunity to save them or speak up for them, and he didnt. And then he did the same to her with the engagement

He thinks he is seeing the ghost of his other wife, Ye Li's mother. It was actually Ye Li who snuck out at night. I wonder if she went back to her father's house to purposely torment him about her mother's death or if she just went back and was singing songs her mother knew bc she missed her mom.

Yea...she even has memories of the time before her misfortune, spending time with the current empress dowager and her mother. So if there is a transmigration plot, it happened very long ago. I think maybe bc transmigration and time leaping plots can be sort of taboo, they only make subtle references like the hand-rolling.

Bots and trolls are definitely weighing down the rating. For the firs episode at least, this has kdrama classic potential. Its definitely a certain type of old kdrama vibe thats very unserious but gets you invested into the MC. The production seems good and there are a lot of really good actors in this. Park Ji Hoon just got recognized for his acting in that historical movie so I fear we wont get to see him in many more dramas like this for a few years, these dramas are usually for up and coming actors, but he's now proven to be one of the best. He's gonna satart getting scripts that are meant for top actors. The downside is that we wont see him in "hidden gem" dramas like this for a while.

Sarcasm is usually taken as rude when ppl straight up dont realize its sarcasm. I think many people just arent used to that type of dry humor and misinterpreted her joke. They realized it was a joke but they didnt get the punchline.

There is a difference. And its obvious some people (including you) dont know that difference.
You guys wrongly assumed that she is attempting to tease others, and that she is not being self aware. But when you realize she is very aware that she of all people should not be the one saying this, that very absurdity and irony is the joke. SHE is the joke, not them. It is not a "savage joke" where someone else is being teased or dissed for their misfortune.

We're definitely much further along in the show now so I think it might just be due to power hungriness... but I still wouldnt be surprised if were given a flashback and we see that at some point she had some interest in the grand prince.
