LOL... anyone in the comments below who is complaining about the kissing in this has clearly not sat themselves through a multitude of Korean and Japanese series (both BL and straight) that have tried to pass off barely-there dead-fish lip-touches for a 'kiss' like I have, because the kisses in this show were *not* that; in fact, they were actually surprisingly decent for two guys who are both still active K-Pop idols.

Regardless, overall, this is one of the better reels series for sure.

No, the memorial photo shows him in some sort of either military or police uniform, so it's most likely implying that he died during his duties in one of those.

Well, this story is deeply rooted in real-life Thai cultural/religious beliefs, so the ways they deal with things like the ghosts are going to be a lot different than is usual for fiction, LOL.

...Weapons? LOL, please, let's use the worldbuilding that has actually been shown onscreen as our guide here. This is not some kind of typical ghost-hunting or superpower show (well, unless the character is a Naga/god, LOL), the only 'weapon' that can actually 'hurt' ghosts in the sense you're meaning is apparently the one single Naga dagger currently in existence, which mortal bodies can't even handle, and which Khem had no access to besides. Ghosts can also be dispersed or sealed in pots, but Khem can't do pot-sealing (you need to have proper shaman training for that), so the best he can do is use the amulet and a prayer to disperse the weakest ones (like he did to save himself at the beginning of ep 1).

However, it's said/shown in the show that, A), normally they actually *don't* attack him (attacks on him apparently only happened very rarely until the time where the series starts), and B), all of the ghosts onscreen who were specifically coming after Khem were being controlled by Ramphueng anyway, so they're much stronger than normal. There's just no way, without becoming an actual shaman himself, to have fully protected himself the way you're probably imagining (and even Peem, the most OP shaman alive, is having a hard time dealing with all of this, LOL, so yeah, Khem had no chance on his own no matter what kind of protection he learned).

So, most of the comments here have been respectful and understanding, however I have seen a couple of comments that sound really entitled, so I'm just going to address this concept in general to hopefully expand the horizons of anyone who is currently thinking this way.

Here is some wisdom I've picked up from my experience watching (what is to me) foreign media for multiple decades now, ever since I was a kid: If you are watching media from another culture, made in that culture's language, guess what? YOU are the foreigner-- and that piece of media is NOT obligated to cater to you, nor is the onus on it to spoon-feed you every little contextual detail of that country's culture, customs, spirituality, history, or anything else that is a gap in YOUR knowledge. IT IS *THEIR* MEDIA. Even if they happen to allow you to officially consume it via international distribution and/or subtitles in your language, that is a privilege, not a right-- *it was not made for you.*

For a very good example of this, all you have to do is just take a look at Japan-- their media (from manga and anime to live-action dramas) has been very popular internationally for over 50 years, and they are fully aware of this. And yet, even still today, there are many Japanese works (including several BL dramas every single year!) that are NOT officially distributed internationally. And even for the media that does get official international distribution, that culture still makes that media for their own culture; international viewers are not the original audience of these works, and the creators are certainly not obligated to explain any of their own culture to their original audience because their original audience IS that culture!

If you, as a foreigner to another culture's media, decide to watch/read/etc. that media, then it is YOUR job to fix any gaps you have in your own knowledge or understanding about the context of what you're consuming. Don't understand some religious or cultural custom that is not explicitly explained by the work, or some bit of history apparently known widely to the people within that culture but not to someone who is not a part of that culture? Then just educate yourself by LOOKING IT UP! (Google is literally one click away, mate-- use it!!) Actually learning a little bit about a culture different to yours will broaden your horizons and make you a better, more well-rounded, and more empathetic person... plus, you'll also end up enjoying their media even more! It's a win-win.

He *did* learn defense mechanisms (you can see him defend himself in the very beginning of episode 1). The problem is that Ramphueng is so strong she can even damage a god-- so the small spiritual defense that Khem can put up is not ever going to be anywhere near enough.

Those weren't just ghosts, she was controlling real people (you can see them getting de-possessed at the end of the scene on the bridge). If they would have just 'run them over' they'd have killed (or at the VERY least seriously maimed) actual living folks who had nothing to do with this curse mess, and they're obviously not going to do that... 😅

LOL, those Namping's-acting-haters were obviously wrong before anyway, but I love that they are now going to have to fully eat their own words thanks to this ep (when he has multiple layers of acting going on-- playing Jet who's playing Khem-- and does it perfectly, even right down to body language). 👏👏

There is no filler in this; if one is paying attention, it's evident that not a single second of any episode is wasted (except for maybe a product placement or two, but that's par for the course with these dramas). There is no big explanation about the religious elements or powers because those are actual real-life belief systems they're utilizing, which Thai people (who are the actual audience for this show) already know about. The powers don't 'develop suddenly,' they're deeply embedded in 1) Thai culture and 2) characterization (both in the moment and via later explanations/flashbacks/etc.). The MC is 'meek' (though not always) because he's been mentally worn down (also very well shown throughout the course of the show). And the romance is more than done justice, it's a realistically character-based slow burn, not just some fluff that goes from love scene to love scene... and it's actually very important, both to the characters and to the story.
