I watched Ep1-12. PSJ carried the whole drama on his shoulders. He is such an amazing and intuitive actor. Hands…
As you said this was written predominantly for female audience.
Imo it acts as a bottle of heavy liquor and sleeping pills - it lulls the audience into delusion. Women who are immature like FL get to fantasize that they will surely find a cute handsome hot guy who will always be there to take care of them, regardless how nasty, immature, abusive, irresponsible they are.
IN ESSENCE, ML IS USED AS A FATHER FIGURE, A PERFECT BABYSITTER AND PSYCHIATRIC NURSE, WHO IS ALSO A HOT LOVER. A fantasy of super immature and toxic women.
This drama overall turned to be a total trash bc the script is so bad. Good acting cannot save a trashy script
Dynamite Kiss is yet another toxic delusion drama and is A LOT worse than this one, has a LOT worse script and acting by ML and FL, but got higher reviews bc it had explicit sexual scenes and nakedness. It shows you what kind of audience likes this kind of stuff. Fine, there is plenty of such audience and they have money. Hollywood makes billions on such audience.
But obviously more and more ppl opt out of trashy stories like that and switch to kdramas, which USED TO have pretty good stories. In various ways. I wrote it in my review of this drama what makes a real kdrama so good. The key ingredient is redemption arc - showing the PROCESS of it
But as Netflix and other westerners start producing kdramas, and Chinese have popularity of short verticals, kdramas might keep sliding and getting worse and worse. Luckily there are still good ones, like Idol I, Beloved Thief, etc but we need to make sure that real kdramas do not become extinct.
Dream Life of Mr Kim was a recent kdrama masterpiece that addressed th redemption arc of a jerk
A real kdrama shows the redemption arc. There is no "miraculous happy ending" at the last minute like in western stuff.
The real kdrama happy end happens because of a genuine transformation PROCESS by self effort, team work, communication, self awareness and self reflection, etc. In a real kdrama, a LOT of very deep stuff is shown in a rather comical, light, fun, warm, compassionate way. So VERY DEEP STUFF IS ADDRESSED. There are very stark honest conversations and self dialogues.
This drama is lazy. It focuses on so many episodes of the same trashy plot and then miraculously shows some inclination of a great change and happy ending. HECK NO I DO NOT TRUST THIS DRAMA ONE BIT.
FL is addicted to alcohol and sleeping pills and using and abusing ML as her babysitter psychiatric nurse and yelling at him and dumping him, lying to him, and then SUDDENLY!!!! MAGICALLY!!!! she is up and running on her feet. Pfsk trash soap. !!!! so unreal.
Watch Dream Life of Mr. Kim for an excellent drama about self transformation.
i dont know why PSJ accepted this role, but this drama is a waste. Good actors cannot make up for a TRASH SCRIPT.
Why did you bother writing this review if you didn’t watch it?
I wrote it bc I think I am watching a SLOW AND AGONIZING DEATH OF KDRAMAS as they become more and more watered down and westernized and without the feel of a real kdrama.
I WANT TO SAVE REAL KDRAMAS FROM DYING OUT.

Watch Dream Life of Mr. Kim for an excellent drama bout self transformation.
Why did you bother writing this review if you didn’t watch it?
If you want me to spend 12 hours wasting my life, I just say NO to that. I WASTED ABOUT 6 HOURS OF MY LIFE WATCHING THIS DRAMA, and I feel very qualified to writ a review. I can write a review based on ep 1-4, skimmed 5, and 12. That was enough for me to know what the drama is about.
Why did you bother writing this review if you didn’t watch it?
I barely plowed through ep 1 just to watch PSJ, and I barely stayed awake through ep 2-4 and only out of loyalty to PSJ. FL actress is a great actress too so it was fun watching her for a while. BUT IT GOT BORING FAST BC IT WAS ALWAYS THE SAME PLOT AND ACTING. And PSJ was not great here bc it requires a lot deeper level of acting than he had. So I QUIT.
The script was trash. TO the usual "weak cowardly FL" and anio!!!! running away plot, they added addiction to alcohol and sleeping pills, so FL is one of the most toxic, if not THE most toxic, FL ever.
There was not one honest dialogue between them until the very very very very end. It is too late.
Gosh I am more entertained by the scalding comments than the drama itself. I do not think there is a more toxic…
Ah yes indeed!!!! THis is the typical weak FL who keeps running away, so to the anio!!! plot of total oblivion they just added addiction to alcohol and pills, so she is THE most toxic FL ever. Indeed.
And yeah I watched it only for PSJ
and quit after ep 4. I concluded that script is trash and ep 5-11 are kinda the same So I just watched ep 12.
Why did you bother writing this review if you didn’t watch it?
When kdramas all become americanized Squid Games and soapy trash Dynamite Kiss, I am OUT of watching anything. And many other ppl will too.
Much of international audience *switched* to watching kdramas bc they are the best out there. But if they start looking like the rest of the trash out there, then there is no need to watch them. REMEMBER THAT.
there might be millions of starved Western audience that will welcome trashy kdramas bc it will still be better than locally produced trash ... but that will die soon too.
Why did you bother writing this review if you didn’t watch it?
And you - did you read my review??? WHAT ARE YOUR COMMENTS ON THE SPECIFICS OF MY REVIEW? Since you have no comments on the specifics of my review, it is clear you have nothing to say and are just interested to support the drama blindly.
Unlike you, I am NOT interested in supporting a drama blindly. I want it done well so I will write what I think went wrong. I am a nerd for art and I want high quality or else I am not watching.
If I wanted to watch trash, I would watch holywood or chinese short verticals. I do NOT watch trash.
If kdramas are not gonna be good, I am quitting watching them. If that means watching nothing, I am cool with that. I quit western stuff decades ago and did not watch anything until 2020 when I discovered kdramas during covid stay at home.
AND I AM HAPPY TO QUIT WATCHING AT ALL IF I HAVE TO
Luckily kdramas still have some good ones coming out. As long as it is so, I will watch, but the minute it goes down, I am OUT.
Got it? So I want to provide feedback for improvemnt.
Unfortunately I started watching ep 1 when ep 8 already aired so I am too late with suggestions
Why did you bother writing this review if you didn’t watch it?
I wrote a review on what I watched and it is very clear. I watched ep 1-4 in great detail and got TIRED of it, the same stuff the same plot kept repeating and repeating!!!!!! To me it was clear from the start that she loved him, she kept hitting on him, and she was COWARD AND ADDICT and kept runnign away and he kept chasing her.
They never ever talked honestly
I skimmed through ep 5 and it was clear it was going on in the same old way ... so many ppl complaining these 2 kept breaking up and quarreling.... NO MOVEMENT FORWARD... ...
THERE IS NO NEED FOR ME TO WASTE TIME TO WATCH ep 5-11 IN TOTAL AGONY was my conclusion
When I see that soemthing is trash, I am not gonna waste time. I am dropping it.
I dropped so many dramas recently like that, after a few episodes of EXACTLY THE SAME PLOT AND ACTING. It is waste of time to spend hours watching ONE SAME THING
The drama ends with a confession but honestly I am not convinced that it would work - to be successful, the drama needs to show some conflicts after they get together, to "test" if FL cleanup was genuine.
We never got to see HOW FL got clean and sober. She was addicted to alcohol and sleeping pills and then magically we see her running a company in the last 2 episodes or so. For all we know, she could still be addicted, just functioning better.
ANd we certaintly got to see that she stayed the same proud oblivious person until literally 5 minutes before the end of the last episode, i.e. I DOUBT that she did the inner work to become a strong person.
So would getting together with ML be successfull???
FL actress is excellent, PSJ could have acted deep love a lot better, and the plot is trash as it focuses solely on the phase "time to rehab and fighting it tooth and claw"
Overall, I am disappointed. This is such a western drama, all strife and no movement forward, Koreans just slapped a happy ending and Western audience is so deprived of anything positive that they will consider those last 5 minutes as happy ending.
Heck no it is not a happy ending. It could be a start of yet another breakup. I am totally NOT connvinced.
i would have liked it more had they killed of one of the leads than killing off that friend to make up for their…
Bc they didnt have any idea what else to do since FL was totally completely cemented frozen and ML had enough of it and wouldnt budge until she defrosted
I am on ep 5 and it is very clear to me why this kdrama is so HEAVY - it is "slice of life" in a rehab program of a chronic addict, The drama drags on in toxic circles bc ***** FL IS AN ADDICT **** who has no intentions to stop**** AND ML IS HER ENABLER. ******
This is actually the old sexist kdrama trope, a weak cowardly woman who keeps running away at the first whiff of discomfort, and a "loyal" man "in love" who "takes care of her" by behaving like a fatherly figure who cleans up her messes and chases her around like a paid babysitter / psychiatric help.
Luckily, Eventually, ML had enough of her messes and stopped helping her, he would not budge until she cleaned up. FL is so cemented frozen that nothing is working on her, until him leaving for over 1 yr and permanently!!!! and that death. *** FL is extremely extremely weak.
The drama is just a modern version of old kdrama sexism, a VERY SUPER WEAK COWARDLY WOMAN.
FL is a super extra weak person. At the slightest problem, she runs away to take some pills and / or get drunk. And she has NO INTENTIONS TO STOP THAT, and ML keeps chasing her to stop that, and she keeps biting him bc she has no intentions to stop. Like in Dynamite Kiss.
LUCKILY, unlike Dynamite Kiss and many other toxic sexist dramas, this ML was smart enough to say ENOUGH!!!!! unless you clean up and show effort and dedication to me, I am not yours. The mistake as usual is that he stays in love with her anyways and just waits. Never moves on...
I am on ep 5 and it is very clear to me why this kdrama is so HEAVY - it is "slice of life" in a rehab program of a chronic addict, FL. So I do not need to watch ep 5-11. I just watched ep 12 to see how they end it. Imo the drama got killed by dragging the rehab "get clean and sober" phase.
Seems like most episodes do NOT show how FL cleaned up. Seems like she eventually cleans up, but stays a proud arrogant oblivious COWARD. At the very very end, literally in the last few minutes of the last episode, FL finally makes a step forward. But it is too late - the drama is already ruined.
The drama should have shown FL doing her work a lot earlier .... and then show how they started again. Bc that has problems too. The drama ends with a confession but honestly I am not convinced that it would work - to be successful, the drama needs to show some conflicts after they get together, to "test" if FL cleanup was genuine.
So my assessment is that the drama got ruined by rehashing the pride and power struggle between an arrogant willful addict and a soft meek enabler. Yeah in real life that goes on forever too... BUT then there is "new life" after the addict cleans up, and it is as difficult. This drama just glosses over it. Which made the drama a flop.
It’s finally over, my God. This K-drama had absolutely zero hype from start to finish. I honestly didn’t understand…
FL is an addict and ML is her enabler, that's why it is so toxic
This is actually the old sexist kdrama trope, a weak woman who keeps running away at the first whiff of discomfort, and a "loyal" man "in love" who "takes care of her" by behaving like a fatherly figure who cleans up her messes and chases her around like a puppy.

his death was so random that it was almost comedic. Maybe he was unavailable for filming in the last episode so…

This is the worst kdrama i've seen, ep 6 and cannot stand them anymore. Dropping it, i dont wanna suffer through…

kdramas are based on feedback of audience

and this is a great talk on short verticals ... "Microdrama pandemic in China" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7QRfK6-lIg
and now scripts are written with AI ....
