and i don't hate mature plots, for example, I liked Go Ahead and Meet yourself. But those have totally different plots so i can't pinpoint what is common with them that i like that i didn't see in this show of Xu Kai's. anyways, I'm still looking forward to his future projects, cause he is a talented actor i have seen that. Just for this show, he was underutilized.

i meant the previous shows of his was Ashes of Love, Wonderland of Love,
then Sword and Fairy with esther yu, which kinda flopped (anyways it was on par with the same airing show that time). then this. I had the same treatment of this show with the one he had with Yang Mi.
I think his chemistry works best with younger female leads. That's just my hunch.
and this is not his fault.
Maybe it's just really up to taste. For example, I really liked the show Falling into Your Smile. that was unserious, but it's really popular with the younger generations.
and this one, might be liked by more mature audiences.

i was honestly expecting a phenomenal drama of sorts because Yang Zi is the co-lead. but maybe that formula works only for historical dramas. I don't know. I am not feeling the best of the family drama in this show. so for now im dropping it.

Xu Kai's dramas are getting less and less score. I started to call this show most Boring show ever midway. His projects used to be so good.

But this emperor here is cunning and psychotic, he is also narcissistic. He is scary.

if she had been headstrong, she would have been dumb cause that same mistake was already done by her grandfather, she is wise. all she has to do is give up her love and her family and other people wont' be hurt. honestly she is clever and wise.

true. they're just kids against the biggest man in the empire so far. Even the emperor's mother is afraid of him.

they can't fight this time like they did against assassins/bandits. the emperor could say just a word and innocent lives/families will be hurt.

it was heavy. after all they've been through, they can fight head to head for their love, but if other families/people will be hurt, they have to let go. and the reason is serious, is that an elder is against their love. So they have to be smart, especially that that elder is none the less but Emperor himself.

he's like the opposite of the emperor from Love like the Galaxy. That guy was the best. best uncle, best emperor.

the old masters of the shen family are the disgusting ones. Zhi and YX even the emperor know this, they are just smooth talkers and wanted to smooch up some rank. They haven't committed crimes yet. And the grandmother is a peach, she is one of the good guys from the start even when Hua family was suffering, she treated them well. Shen Qi and Shen Huan are just great noble guys, the Shen family has some hope. But i am still scared that Shen Qi might end up marrying Zhi cause that would be the end of Yan Zhi couple,
