Waste of potential

The ending was better than the sceond half of the show but this drama definitely lacked identity.
Even their promotion was all wrong. They promoted this with the two male lead and the main female lead friendship but it was more about the 3 male leads being friends and enemy.
The females character were poorly handled. Main female lead had zero plot going on and second female lead had a baffling plot going on. I still don't understand what Lei Chun's rape did to her plotline. Such a wrong thing to keep from the original source. The director and writer are so stupid. They changed everything but kept the most disturbing part. Argh!!!
Overall super dissatisfied.

Beautiful

This part 2 was quite satisfying. Though there were some changes I would say the core values of the novel was still maintained.
Pros: 1. Loved the chemistry. Allen Ren and Reba really had mesmerizing chemistry.
2. It was fast paced for the most part.
3. The female lead is strong. She has always hold on against the villains.
4. Happy ending.
Cons: 1 . One plot dragged in the beginning.
2. Some changes from the novel.
Even though there are cons, as long as Xianxia drama has good chemistry and decent storyline it will get a 10 from me. It's my favorite genre. I watch drama to indulge myself. This drama definitely did that for me.

Fantasy drama are on a decline

When I got into cdramas in 2018, I got a huge stock of dramas to watch and fantasy was my favorite type of dramas to watch. I think after 4 years, We are seeing quite a few similar style dramas now. This drama gives me the vibe of a 2014-15 fantasy drama vibe. The overly sad and hopeless feeling is not something we were seeing in 2017-2020 dramas.
This dramas biggest positive was ; after watching a few episodes I wanted to see the ending and whatever it will be okay for the main leads. It was somewhat enjoyable though not the best. Atleast I discovered Li YiFeng. I am quite enjoying him.
Cons : Choppy editing, too much focus on villainish characters. Honestly I hated that Yu Huan. So irritating. The female lead is known to many if you watched ashes of love. She really wasn't the best choice for the female lead. Li YiFeng and her chemistry took a long time to take off.
Also that sad ending was so unnecessary.
Anyway there wasn't a good fantasy drama after ancient love poetry. So I still enjoyed it. This drama probably won't have any positive feedback overtime. And it's the producers and writers fault.
Please stop making sad ending dramas. One and only was sad too but that one felt more real. This one was sad just for the sake of being sad
