It gets revealed later (in the novel) why he treats him the way he does (his mom is f*cking crazy crazy)- though, to me, it doesn’t excuse him and I really felt like he didn’t need to go THAT far. I also think he maybe could have explained to Xaio Fan at some point early in the relationship the reason why. But maybe not because then the twist at the end won’t happen, and that’s the cherry on top satisfaction- at least, for me it is- so I kinda get why he doesn’t. IDK… I’m just chilling a bit on the fence, toddling back and forth like a seesaw with this story.

He will, in fact, get a backbone. I promise. We are supposed to feel this way about him at this point though.

All I want to say to those angry right now is that XIAO FAN gets HIS payback in the end (in the novel, he does). One could kinda liken him to a sleeper agent, if you will. Those who’ve read the novel completely will understand what I mean.

I paused this after episode 4 after reading the novel, because I KNEW the coming episodes would piss me all the way off- From viewers’ regular comments here and on IG edits, it sounds like the cast continues to do an amazing job portraying the traits of their characters through the storyline, so it looks like I made a good choice to wait until the end. Because even though I KNOW what’s coming, watching it play out on screen every week will just have me feeling some kinda way, just like y’all.

They truly are the worst. His mom is the only one with any redeeming quality. After reading the novel, I stand firm in this. Though she’s not SUPER amazing, she got better in the novel at supporting Xiao Fan and chastising his brother and father. Though I think she could and SHOULD have done WAY more than she did. Overall, they’re a family he could do without. They really are horrible for no real reason. Putting all their hopes and dreams and energy and faith into such a horrible human as the first son and completely disregarding that their second son is even a human with feelings and that maybe he would like a life and hopes and dreams, too. They turn him into a “nothing” that is expected to sacrifice even his dignity for them and the eldest. And remain blind to what they’re doing to him for way too long for my peace of mind. I would literally never forgive the father and brother ever. ESPECIALLY the brother. He could grovel at my feet for a month in the snow and sleet, eating rotten produce and tree branches and I would still walk past him dressed in my warmest clothes and eating something delicious while laughing on my phone with a friend as I pass. Let him see me living my life unconcerned about him in the slightest because fuck him and his unempathetic, non-brotherly, sorry excuse for a human self. (The author did a REALLY good job making him a truly detestable character with ZERO good qualities.)

Yes, I think that maybe would have given me more closure. It kinda felt like some Japanese feel-good BLs- where the ending starts at a weird time so you doubt it’s the end (like, no credits because they were rolling during said scene- the screen just freezes at the end)- like with Perfect Propose.

End End Credits?! No. I just closed when it minimized my screen.

Just watched it and it was a twist I hadn’t expected tbh. I also wish Viki had translated the text that popped up on the screen at the end end. Since I can’t screenshot to translate, I have to get creative (if I feel like it). Maybe that part will settle it more for me. Yhough this makes me feel like the story has a bit more closure, I still feel like the ZX and ZZ story shouldn’t be so abrupt- especially if it was the fictional one. This means an editor could have had the author make the ending more final rather than cut off. It would likely have a little more substance to it.

This commenter did say it was their own opinion with “I” statements. Why return with such a targeted comment to judge their opinion based on how they rated what they liked? Did they judge you specifically? No; they just mentioned not seeing what others see in this particular drama- which is fine. There has to be a drama or 10 you’ve watched that you disliked but others thought were masterpieces. I know I do. Do I hate on those who dislike the ones I love? No, because it won’t alter my enjoyment of that drama. (A lot of people hated on Key of the Phoenix Heart because of the real life age gap, but it’s a really good drama that I really enjoyed.) We are all unique and have our own likes and dislikes. Not every drama is for everyone.

I didn’t think it was confusing so much as rushed and underwhelming. After the superb storytelling and acting, the ending felt kinda…meh…

Finally finished this and I enjoyed the story within a story. My only issue is that the ending seems a little rushed- it kinda felt underwhelming that that’s how they ended it. I don’t know. Maybe it’s just me, but after all that drama for so long, this is a very simple cut off. I mean, I know the IMPLICATIONS of their actions are anything but simple, but it kinda feels…just underwhelming for me.

True. Up to today, it really seems like she cares a lot about her brother and his happiness. And though she likes Soto, I think she doesn’t like him as much as her brother will when he admits his feelings. She may decide to support him rather than keep what appears to be a more superficial relationship for herself.

It does seem like it in some cases- with some censoring to keep from being banned by their government like Yibo and Zhan- especially since fans went toxic. I honestly think the same level of toxicity hasn’t happened for other mainland Chinese CPs yet because the inundation of BLs from there that we have had- though RLs couple seems to have either fallen victim to the censorship or maybe just stall parted publicly after the promotional period ended. Unlike ABO actors- who are in a unique position as they’re being marketed as a group instead of CPs by the rich and powerful sisters. Though Chang Xi and Yan Zhao still post content past what I would have assumed to be the end of the promotional period. Same for Ayden and Elio- I think they are an exception partly because Ayden is Singaporean. I wonder about Kuma and Jing Yu- Some of these CPs are VERY comfortable with closeness (again, I always keep in mind that they are actors and what they show can be pre-agreed promotional content mixed with genuine friendship after weeks of filming such emotional and intimate scrnes.

Either way, I will enjoy with a grain of salt and giggle 🤭 behind my hands as long as they’re willing to share 😊

Oh most definitely no rely! They’re super cute on lives. I have to remember that these are actors though. And their job includes promoting their series. At some point, they move on to other projects and this content fades- unless they’re Thailand CPs. Ironically, it’s the Thailand CPs content I trust the least.

I’m kinda jaded over the “are they, aren’t they” atp tbh. I know it can happen, like it did for the MLs in Secret Lover, but not often. So I try to measure my belief- especially when it involves actors from mainland China.

THIS f**king show! I paused at ep5 to wait until all episodes aired and damn am I glad I did! I’m on ep8 and what a wild ride it has been. I’m glad I don’t have to wait a week to see what happens next. The story within the story is really well done- from the writing to the acting- 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽I’m really impressed with the whole concept.

Random thought posed from my bl-loving heart: what if it’s a story within a story…within a story 😉 jk…maybe…. 🤭🤫 I know Ollie and Shu Yuan are just acting. Yet and still, I can imagine, can’t I? In a non-toxic way, of course. 👍🏽🫶🏽

Abaolutely. Dan is mad sus and I know he’s just plotting away in the DL, just manipulating LJane’s life so he can come in and “save the day” to show LJane how much better he is than BJane. I’m wondering- is this the end for Put? That’s crazy if so. I hope he made some miraculous recovery so he can learn from his error. I’m sure he didn’t get to say what he wanted to say about BJane- and I doubt it was to identify him as the sports car driver. But I can see Dan being pissed at Put putting hands on LJane and deciding to take the opportunity to take him out- and bonus if he can pin it on BJane. Since he knows LJanw is easy to manipulate/influence against BJane with circumstantial “evidence”. I’m convinced Dan has money and is closer to BJane than he’s let on. A family member or once-close friend from the same social circle.

I really need to read the novel…

I think the intelligence comes from those who are able to spot the red flags, not those who are the red flags.

Red flags are so labeled due to their behaviors- or, personality traits-, not their intelligence factors. Manipulation tactics, lack of empathy, and bad behavior don’t require superior intellect. Red flag behavior can use simple manipulation like lying, guilt, and yelling to get their way. They don’t care if they hurt others, and often act on selfish impulses rather than some “master plan.”

Though a red flag can definitely have higher intelligence and unlock the “next level” with subtle gaslighting and using a person’s secrets against them in a subtle and inescapable way. BJane has already gone through a US Ivy League psychology program so has rhat higher level of intelligence to use psychology to get what he wants. He does gaslight LJane regarding this favor contract hustle he has, sure. LJane is a red flag with lower intelligence because his behaviors are wildly impulsive and repetitive- he repeatedly accuses BJ without waiting for facts. He uses friends to lie to him and get him to leave him alone (Dan as a bf- also not caring that this hurts Dan because he actually doesn’t like him like that). I wouldn’t say that LJane doesn’t have empathy- he just has it misplaced- or incomplete understanding of what is going on. He’s way too impulsive and it keeps biting him in the ass. But his impulsive behavior hurts others, and he doesn’t seem to learn from it- instead, he blames others for what he has caused (main victim being BJane) and repeats these harm-causing behaviors. For 6 episodes so far.

(My apologies for the long reply- the psychology degree comes out of me sometimes-ironic, I know.)
