ML dying was fine but why did that new GF of his had to die , she was innocent

its weird how so many people are crying about a dog dying in the movie where two girls were shown murdered

with all the scenes that were shown of his guilt in the entire movie n then him not dying at the end didn't go with the story
I mean those scenes were so painful of him wondering is he actually dead

after all he did for his adopted sister .........
