Too Much Side Story, Too Little Main Couple โ And That Ending? โIโm Back
I started this simply because it was already downloaded on my iQIYI before my VIP expired. I didn't know the leads beforehand, so I was really relying on the story and chemistry to pull me in.
Unfortunately, it never really did.
๐ What I Liked
There were some interesting moments in the main story, and I did like Han Yunling as a character. The drama also had some nice emotional and historical/fantasy elements.
โ๏ธ What Didn't Work for Me
The biggest issue was the side stories taking over too much of the drama. I kept waiting for the main couple to become the focus, but I found myself watching a lot of the Emperor and Changmo Princess storyline insteadโand honestly, I wasn't invested in them. ๐
By Ep. 14, I was already bored. I eventually jumped from Ep. 16 to Ep. 20 just to get through it and focus on the main storyline.
๐ฉ The Ending
This was probably my biggest disappointment. Xiao Chi is alive and eventually returns after years apart, but the reunion felt way too abrupt.
After everything Han Yunling went through, Xiao Chi basically comes back with:
โIโm back.โ
END. ๐ญ
I needed more emotional payoff than that.
๐ Angst: Some, but it didn't hit me as hard because I wasn't deeply invested.
๐ฅ Chemistry: Didn't really feel it enough to keep me hooked.
๐ข Slow Burn: Yesโtoo slow for me, especially with so much focus on the supporting storyline.
๐ญ Genre Type: Historical / Romance / Mystery / Fantasy
Not a bad drama, but definitely not one I'll remember. I finished it mostly because I had already downloaded it. ๐
Unfortunately, it never really did.
