I'm not someone who like romance dramas but I can say Xu Kai and Yang Zi delivered matured relationship and the dynamic of their understanding towards each other exude better chemistry than those who relies on intimate scenes to define chemistry. Old married couple vibes.

Xu Kai was rumoured first for this drama before TSY's name came in. So he doesn't fit your "who chooses who" theory. Bring your Xu Kai hate somewhere. You just focus on TSY's acting. Let others enjoy what they want to see.

Their last modern dramas couldn't even exceed 10 million avg per episodes. They are well known for costume dramas. But none of them can break through modern drama chassis and this is well-known facts. They have limitation too.

If you really follow his dramas, you will know that he always have great family scenes in Royal Feast, She and her perfect husband, Court Lady, Lingjian Mountain etc. Family scenes is one of his strength actually. Also, his dramas not really centered around playful romance dramas. That's the reason he always got comments like he's bad at choosing scripts coz this type of fans just want to see him acting in playful romance dramas.

These actors already 30s but they still stuck acting in costume dramas. They have no audience chassis outside costume dramas. How long they gonna stay acting in costume fantasy drama? Also, their viewers rely heavily on female audiences. Let them play their strength, what's that have anything to do with Xu Kai? You said he only got Yanxi Palace, his other establish role is Wang Lu for Lingjian Mountain. Go to Chinese forum, you'll see high favor on Wang Lu. Not many actors can bring Wang Lu's character. If he wanna have it easy, he would have stick playing Wang Lu. But he's in the process broadening his horizon. With his agency manipulating on his high demands by rejecting many different scripts that approach him, he makes used the limited space to discover different play. I don't like some of his plays, but that's on him. I'll find things that interest me to watch.

I think these 2 adlib so many things in their scenes. MCH kicking YZM when he fumed about mom saying he's 40. YZM pokes MCH hands when they eat Anhui spicy food. Not to mention their scenes when YZM sneaked into MCH's room wearing blanket.

It doesn't have to focus on his job all the time. It has to capture important scenes that help the transformation. His scenes are too fragmented that it's hard for me as viewer to feel his gradual changes.

I had to disable autoplay for a while, luckily he knows not to take himself seriously on this matters. 🙄

The drama didn't show much of his gradual transformation thus it feels jumpy to me too.

People have been saying this since Ep16. Now only 8 eps left. I think they just gonna rush his part just like how we learned his past from his story to CH after GM died and about his promotion when he told He Dong.

it's a family drama for FL. Why did drama covers 2FL family story? ML being put as "main lead" but his story is not well-covered like 2nd FL. We just suddenly received ML got promotion today for the contribution he explained to the boss in the mere 5 mins scene.

I think he used not to entertain bs. He voiced what needed to be voiced. Things that MCH with her dad and bro didn't do when she overstep the line.

This relationship is what suits MCH the best. When XJL took over the stage during MCH's first project, he already violated MCH's value on her life. It was ideal for XJL but not for MCH. YZM might seems unconcerned but he gave what MCH longed for, freedom in doing her work and sense of accomplishment from doing it.

The romance development here sure is different from typical modern cdramas. They both mature and silently observed and acknowledge each other. That results with them being professional when it comes to work, despite have feeling for each other.

I actually didn't have problem with her either. It's a typical old-fashioned mother.

I don't think he JUST simply gonna hand over. Judging from his conversation with GM, he got plan how to cater both sides. GM aware about what YZM gonna do with the hotel. She insisted on him what matters most to her regarding the hotel. YZM plans to cater GM's wishes when proceeding with Yueda's business plan. GM wanted the hotel core values to retain, not that she against the plan for acquisition anything.
