On Story of Kunning Palace Aug 31, 2024
Okay I'm starting the show, finished episode one, I'm enjoying it and it's pace. I really hope she improves her relationship with her mother and sister. It's honestly so backwards her blaming the daughter for being switched and not the mother who switched her. Her own mother tried to be kind in the beginning so I'm not buying this bad mother act (using nanny to beat her). They however make it easy to see that she is trying to change her behavior and other people are noticing it. Another thing is that she is scared of the ML... why? Is there something I'm missing, you killed yourself? The entire time my impression of the show was that he killed her so she was afraid of him. He didn't even threaten to kill her, she offered herself up cause she had to die regardless.

I've seen unchained love and long ballad, liked them! out of the two, unchained love is closer to what Im looking for. Starry love seems like the best, but Idk about two couples D:

My journey to you and The Kunning palace is pretty good to.
Im planning on getting into The Kunning palace, but from videos i've seen im worried about the FL. I know past her was awful, but I appreciate bad characters when they have good development. I heard they don't show her regret or grief from her past self well.

can anyone recommend me chinese drama with similar vibe. I love the smart, tough, dark vibe ML and smart FL (wish a little bit of street smarts too). I'm enjoying the mystery solving but I love the hoplessly in love MLs and I'm impatient. I've seen TTEOTM, The Double, Goodbye my Princess. I really like MLs that have healthy obsessions with FL, you get what I mean (GMP doesn't fit the healthy obsession, complete opposite actually lol but the vibe)

There's a business ethics analysis done on this part. The part where he scolded her for using his name is he didn't…
Yeah so I was thinking as a viewer. That's why it felt odd with the immediate behaviour. It is totally normal respectful behaviour and the drama edited it to make it seem normal in the guests eyes.

Similar to what others have mentioned already, it's how the msg is delivered that will have different perspectives…
Just replying to everyone here haha. I get the idea of why he said it, I know the issue was with their relationship being misunderstood if she introduced it that way. I see that she made it feel more personal than professional. I think my issue is that I judged the dinner scene too hard. He just seemed overly considerate of her that I believed anyone would misunderstood him pouring her tea, giving her tissue, making them scan her wechat. I know that it is simply just respectful behaviour and lets people know she should be part of the conversation as a CEO herself. He just doesn't do this respectful behaviour with anyone else. If the drama showed this level of consideration with other people maybe it would've been easier for me to see that. I'm just a lil slow haha.

He just seemed overly considerate of her that I believed anyone would misunderstood him pouring her tea, giving her tissue, making them scan her wechat. The drama shows how many people can tell he likes her, and how many times he goes out of his way to see/help her. I believed this scene would be the same. I should've noticed that the guests at the dinner were perfectly normal with his behavior.

That makes sense, the ambiguity. I should consider that part. I guess my issue is with how overly considerate he was. If I was at that party and saw the way he treated her I would wonder whats up.

That all makes sense. I was just thinking in drama world sense he was overly considerate of her. Tissues, pouring tea, wechat. In any other drama, this would make people start talking. However, he is truly being considerate and the other people there were decent folks so they didn't take it the wrong way. I get what you mean

I like what he did, he wanted her to be respected, not kept in the background, part of the conversation as CEO herself (I don't think he did it well though, a better example is Master of My Own). However, it is weird right after his disciplining of her. He moved on, but he did what he had an issue with, I dont know if that counts as moving on.

He wanted to help her get connections, which is not a problem at all, that's what investors are for. However, she needed something from that doctor, more than connection, and he helped her get it by using his own influence. Maybe I am missing what the "shortcut" was, isn't it just her using her connection with him?

when did he say that they are classmates. no other investors were paying attention to her. he poured tea for her…
She said he and her were schoolmates in the meeting before with the Mr. Lin (im not sure if i got it right). He didn't want her to use his name, use shortcuts to get things, and be taken advantage for her relationship to him. However, he shows all those people what type of relationship they have, someone who is very considerate to her. I have no problem with it, because they are connections but it feels odd after he got upset at her for that.

Currently episode 12, I just wanna say, that scene where he is making people scan her wechat and he is being considerate of her... why? Not even 2 episodes ago did she make a fuss about her taking advantage of his name, for her sake of course (people will tie her to him and annoy her about their relationship). However, he is doing it himself, in a much outward way then briefly mentioning they are schoolmates. Showing her attention, pouring her tea, making them follow her, anyone will take it the wrong way there. That is bothering me. It makes his speech to her, which I respected very much, null.

How come female leads always have to be likable? Y'all certainly don't have the same requirements for male leads...they'll…
Oh its definitely internalized misogyny. I've always been hesitant to watch a show after seeing comments about immature female leads, then I give it a shot and the woman is literally just a woman?!? You're right, zero empathy for their characters. She's having a rough patch in her life and yet people are like why she acting out lol.

Men are the male characters but its usually women watching and its centered around the FLs life and maybe the MLs, but only parts that influence/affect the FL. Despite him being a main, It comes back to him being mainly the love interest, so they don't really care about his life, as long as he loves her like crazy.

About the horrible male leads, very truee! That's exactly why I LOVEEE a good grovel scene. I really really dislike it when a FLs suffering is thrown aside for "love." I hate when she doesn't get a real heartfelt apology from the male lead, same with side characters. If he doesn't get his comeuppance, it drastically changes my opinion of the characters and the show. Like ML, you don't think you need to apologize, FL, you let him back in your life after that, show, you don't think you're missing anything?!

For example in Boys over flowers, I couldn't watch it. I can't remember if he even apologized to her properly, but I know he didn't apologize to other people he bullied. That's why I liked the F4 version, I clearly remember him going to his victims and apologizing.

Wayy too many girls/woman romanticize the bad guy from kdramas. I'm good though, never found it attractive, STAY SAFE FRIEND!

I totally get your point. There are many people who are like that. For me at least, it's because the female lead is the main character and I want to follow a character with a good moral compass. If she is flawed, its okay as long as there is character development. I know for MLs there is usually character development so I don't obsess over their perfection too much. For others, I believe it is because green flags can often be boring. People like the "I can change him" types. It can also be because women want to live through the FL, they wanna by y/n. (NOT ME AT ALL I PROMISE, I literally thought y/n was said as yin).

To admit my own bias, I do prefer shows where MLs fall first, and dislike where FLs fall first. When a ML falls for a FL they are usually obsessive with it (not a likeable trait irl), and I let it slide, but when a FL does it, not a fan at all. This is because they use all the romantic cliches for when men do it, but whenever FL do it, they make her have literally have no personality except for liking the guy and base their whole life around the ML (they have done this for some ML and I'm not a fan of, like Marry My Husband).
However, I have my standard. I have dropped shows often when the ML is too much. Usually they have a different level of dislike. I even dropped Love is Sweet cause ML pretended to be sick for her attention lol.

First and foremost the plot sounds unique and interesting am sensing most are gonna be flawed characters which…
Same! They will most likely both have their own flaws, reminds me of The Break-up (Jennifer Aniston movie), but THEY BETTER have good character development. If they are unlikeable its fine as long as they become likeable :D
