A good story can be told in only 6 episodes. I mean look at the Heated Rivalry notoriety.
I mean, I don't think anyone is denying it had explicit sex scenes. The question is whether that automatically makes the entire story porn.
To me, porn is when the sexual content is the main point. Heated Rivalry had explicit scenes, sure, but it also spent a lot of time on the relationship, character development, and the actual story. Calling the whole thing "just porn" feels like reducing it to one aspect while ignoring everything else.
Watching Heated Rivalry needs no excuse for me to watch, and I'm not ashamed to be one of its millions of people that watched it. Hell, the most watched, highly rated episode of the season, and even on IMDb before it was down-voted by homophobes had a perfect 10 score and it had absolutely zero "explicit, drawn-out, simulated sexual acts designed for viewer gratification"

That's your only justification? Then all renaissance paintings, Greek statues, women wearing swimsuits on the beach is porn. While you're at it, any men without a shirt on is sexual too so that's also porn.
This rating is pissing me off😒. I am seeing BL that doesn’t even make sense been rated higher than this🤧(while…
Yeah I noticed a lot of shows that have "star power" or just included peoples favorite couples immediately get 10 when the plot is abysmal and shows with great plot and storyline barely make it just because there isn't enough kinship. It kills me sometimes.
It's 2026 and we're back to the "no kissing, all abut the camera angles" kiss scenes...I'm gonna wait until all the episodes are out and binge if comments here say it's worth it.
One thing that surprised and also brought me the most joy is the close friendship He Chu San and Lu Guang Ming eventually develop in the novel. It was freaking hilarious.
So I believed I heard XJH's Dad was involved in LGM's parents death and he is getting close to XJH for revenge? Why…
Honestly it's different because in the novel XJH isn't close with his dad AT ALL ever since he found out XJH was gay and his dad threw him out. In the show he seems to care more but in the novel it was like he was being more civil with XJH to keep up appearances (with a tiny bit of love still there) to make sure he gets re-elected. If he's not in his high position in the police he can't keep up his double life has head of the triad.
LGM knows a lot because of Jia Qi. Both of them were in love with Jia Qi pretty much and Jai Qi worked for the ICAC and was investigating XJH dad and sorry to say the best way he could do that at first was to get close to XJH. But Jia Qi was found out and was murdered (in the novel he was thrown into a freezer and slowly froze to death which in my opinion was far worse then what happened in the series.)
Qing Long found out about XJH's dad's involvement with his parents death and even thought about going legitimate. and that could mess with XJH dad's business so he had to go. Hua actually was supposed to die the shootout with Liu Yi and Fat Qi but I think having him being murdered in the same way as Jia Qi on orders from the Old Shopkeeper has a better way of condensing the fact that those cases are related.
Right?! He Chu San's dream was way better than reality. But its understandable because this is the first time Liu Yi has even had someone kissing him, wanting a relationship with him, and even having feelings for someone, let alone another man, so it could be awkward for him.
anyone know how much of the novel did they cover? half of the novel? just curious
It's hard to decipher because they've condensed scenes that happened in later chapters (specifically the second CP and their investigation) congruently with earlier chapters. They've taken out a few other filler chapters but it has made some progress I guess? So maybe about a third?

Yes, XJH's Dad was involved in LGM's father's death and he's getting close to him because he was trying to get him to see how evil his dad is because get this: XJH's dad is the Old Shopkeeper. He's been corrupt for decades and been pretty much running the entire triad for decades killing any and every one that messes up or could bring about his identity, including Qing Long and Qing Long's parents.
Hua was as corrupt as it gets and the reason he was killed was because (in the series at least) he saw his son investigating Hua, even without concrete evidence suspicions about Hua and possibility of talking could come back to him so he had him killed.
Can someone spoil me the storyline of 2nd couple? I wanna know if they get their happy ending and how.
They do end up together in the end (but not without a lot of injuries on both sides, personal and physical) They pretty much take down every one in the triad and corrupt officers and make their relationship work.
