it's officially announced that season 2 is on the way....
I think @Manasvi was talking about the first part of your comment - the bit that reveals things about s1, the knowledge of which may spoil it for others. As you say, the fact that there may be a season two is an official announcement which in no way spoils anything in s1.

I wonder if I'm leaving this comment on the correct page. I've just read two or three of the comments below mine, saying it wasn't serious enough. I've watched a considerable amount of Korean stuff now, and I actually like the way light moments are mixed in with the dark stuff (and vice versa). I've even come to have a grudging liking for the slapstick that's thrown in now and then.

This film had, to the best of my recall, none of these moments. It was serious from start to finish. And it was seriously good.

One action sequence was definitely over the top and definitely wouldn't have happened like that IRL but, hey, it's supposed to be entertainment ... and that scene was that with bells on.

The way MDL lists shows - i.e. listing shows released in two parts as different shows - puts those shows at a disadvantage. It splits the vote if you've got a finite number of dramas you can choose. 'The Glory' is on here twice. It kinda has to be, if you want to rate the whole thing. But was the first half better than the second half? How can I remember? For sure, the second half would have been somewhat difficult to follow if there hadn't been the first half. 'Duty After School' is another example. I personally wouldn't consider either part two as separate from their part ones. They're a direct continuation of the same show, just with a longer than usual airing break between a couple of the episodes. I'm sure that would be the same for many other two part shows that I haven't watched (yet).

Imo heโ€™s much better looking than those 2 you mentioned. CEW is literally perfect.
I hope he had a good night's rest ... oh, or did you mean he was depressed but is now happy? :-)

[I love English. One little word can mean so many different things.]

LOL .... Pistols at dawn?

[PS: I may be wrong, but I think CAW has more votes than the other two because more people who have voted think he's better looking.]

iโ€™m not a fan of adding unnecessary seasons to most dramas either but squid games is one that i think deserves…
I appreciate hoping it flops is a bit harsh. Netflix have produced many brilliant shows, aimed at both the Western and Eastern markets. However, they're trying to mess with the traditional Kdrama formula - which I've come to love, for exactly the same reason as you - to create cash cows they can continue to milk. I'm concerned their output will force everyone else to take the same direction. I believe the people at the top at Netflix are solely, or at least primarily, driven by the profit motive. If producing good shows makes money, they'll produce great shows. Maybe what I'm really hoping for is something that's a critical masterpiece, but a financial disaster. That might convince them to stick with a winning formula.

I don't dislike multiple seasons. There are numerous multi-season shows I've thoroughly enjoyed and been sad when they're finally over. What I dislike are UNNECESSARY ones. (Sorry for the caps, there's no underline facility and I wanted to emphasise the word!) If the last scene you referred to had been left out, would you have felt the show incomplete and left unresolved? I very much doubt most people would. It was like Leonardo da Vinci having finished painting the Mona Lisa thinking, "Nah, actually, let's give that mouth a grin". I believe it was added as an afterthought, not because there's an important part of the story still to come (and that the writers always intended there to be).

There are plenty of shows, on the Eastern side of the World at least, that use sequels (and prequels) to develop a story. Indeed, on this site they're presented as such on separate pages, unlike IMDB for instance, where there's only one main page for a show which is then subdivided into seasons, then further subdivided into episodes. Besides, what I actually said was that if it isn't "more of the same" it should be presented as a sequel not as a second season. If it is just more of the same, sure ... call it season 2. In which case, what's the point of it?

The end of the second paragraph of this piece: "... unique series." Yes, it was. It was brilliant. It was also complete, and didn't need Netflix to invent an excuse in the last few moments to shoot a second season. (If you don't know the correct meaning of the word "unique", look it up.)

It would have to be an utterly amazing and unexpected storyline for this to be anything other than 'more of the same' and a disappointment. So I'm not going to dilute my memory of a really good show by watching this unnecessary second season. I know it won't happen, but I really hope it's a flop, at least financially. Perhaps then Netflix will stop trying to mess with the Kdrama formula: Get a really good idea, produce one amazing drama covering everything it needs to, leave the audience hungry for more, then move on to an even better idea with something new.

Anything that needs, or gets, a season two, ISN'T a "Kdrama" ... even if it's a drama made in Korea!

[For anyone who didn't know, and couldn't be bothered to look it up, if something is "unique", it means there's only one of it. The story was complete. A second season will either manufacture an excuse to pretty much repeat the first in general terms - in which case, season one will no longer be unique - or will go off on a tangent somehow following one or more of the main characters from the show, in which case it shouldn't be called "Season Two" but rather a sequel.]

Title Healer
Came across this in a list of 'Best Ever Kdramas', decided to give it a go, and glad I did. Very enjoyable, though as others have said it was a little slow at times. It would have been at least two episodes shorter if the FL wasn't so stupid, and if they'd left out the times she was just being annoying, it could have been shortened by three more!

I was disappointed that the solicitor father's ex-clients hardly got involved ... a great opportunity missed. Perhaps a good starting point for a whole new Kdrama? Hmmm ... if I wanted to write one myself, would it absolutely have to be written in Korean? (Or maybe there already is one, and I just need to look harder? )

This one is based on appeal rather than skill. When I see someone I think is good-looking, I send them flowers. I then send more flowers each week to whoever is in my 'Top 10' at the time, which is mostly influenced by what I'm watching, or have recently watched. ("Sent", at the moment, as I've suspended doing it for now.) So those with more flowers have been in my top ten for longer. SJK has been high on that list every week since Day One, which is why he has so many flowers.

Ju Jing Yi seems a reasonable choice. I've not seen her in anything myself, but she's had main roles every year…
OK, let's take him off for now, and see if anyone else adds him independently. If they do, and he stays listed, you can always add / change your vote. :-)

[BTW, they don't need to be Korean ... any nationality is fine, so long as they have an entry here on MDL.]

Dylan Wang and Ju Jing Yi are pretty but if you look in their filmography they plays many different characters…
Ju Jing Yi seems a reasonable choice. I've not seen her in anything myself, but she's had main roles every year since 2015 so she must be doing something right.

Dylan Wang I'm not so convinced of. You really think he has shown enough acting talent in just a few short years to be considered the fourth best actor listed on MDL? (Remember, it's "best", not "favourite".)

Being pretty doesn't automatically exclude people, it's just not what they should be judged by for the purposes of this particular list.

I know Choi Min Ho is too pretty for this list and a Kpop idol. But he does a lot of stunts by himself. And he…
Well, I've not found him in the top ten of any of the "pretty" lists I've checked and he's got a real body of work. I've only seen him in one thing so far - "The Battle of Jangsari" - but I enjoyed that, and he played a main role, so .... convinced. :-) [Though open to counter-arguments, if anyone thinks he shouldn't be eligible.]

On 2gether: The Movie Jul 3, 2023
It has been a year since I watched 2gether, and only six months since Still 2gether, but actually that was just about the right timing. As others have said here, it will definitely help if you've watched those two before seeing this. It's hard to imagine how it would have come across if I didn't already know the 'backstory' ... a little disjointed probably, with several "Huh?"s and "Why...". I don't remember my first viewing well enough to say for sure which were new scenes, though I did recall many of the old as soon as I saw them. And yes, as others have said here, this is pretty much a "Previously on..." leading up to the last couple of scenes, with a few judicious links. However, it's well done, I loved the addition of internal monologues by the MLs, and it satisfied my craving for a rewatch without needing to sit through the whole thing. I can probably go at least a year or more now without needing to do that. :-)

One thing to be aware of, though, if you are thinking of watching this having watched the two full seasons. The side stories of the other couples are left out pretty much completely.

I see we now have three voters who think the USA is part of China. Or does having Chinese ancestory qualify someone to be on this list? I'm pretty sure I have quite a bit of nordic DNA ... that doesn't make me a viking.

Why is park seo joon here?
Yeah, it has always kinda baffled me why people who can't read would bother trying to use the internet.

Maybe I'll start a new voting list then, once the idiots have managed to make it meaningless, change the title to: "Mediocre Actors Who Are Only On This List Because I'm A Moron".

oof i just got out of my kdrama procrastination period and was about to hit play for ep 8 but then i saw the plethora…
LOL at 'dead fish kiss'. I seem to recall it being demonstrated in quite a few of the Kdramas I've watched, so was beginning to think it was meant to be realistic, and just one of the many cultural differences between East and West.
