I would not compare this story to L&P. Chen Yi is a very messed up and cannot be compared to Li Xun. I honestly don’t mind even if the FL had a serious relationship that did not work out with someone - because that is life. He literally kicked her out of his life and disappeared . There was no guarantee that they would meet again . L&P was a different kind of story. The leads were way more committed there.

Yeah at this point he is just surviving that’s all. He has no aspirations in life. It’s very sad. Seriously the emotions from both the leads were so raw in ep 17 !
That fighting sequence in episode 17 was really good. You see the real extent of Chen Yi’s dark past ! It was feral. You are like what the hell did this guy do before this?? SWL really nailed it
As someone commented about it - it’s individual choice as to whether one wants to date or not . There is no need to discuss this stuff or explain it away. Whatever they are reading/assuming who know? This kind of mindset is very twisted
I really loved that scene where he is looking for her earrings in the rain. You can literally see his internal struggle and that inner conflict. On the one hand he keep pushing her away and on the other he still wants to protect her. MJ can see all of this and that is why she asks ‘Do you even know what you are doing?’ Yeah the scenes between them in this drama are so layered and poignant. The way they have written the lead characters and how SWL and Jingyi have portrayed them is just amazing. This is not an empty romance - it is very deep, layered and complicated as it should be because they both had only each other when growing up and this was not a normal dependency . And that is what they are trying to show. Because the present equation between them is full of this push and pull due to their past. This is not a normal romance/relationship- it is dysfunctional and complicated.

For sure. She has never forgotten how he cherished her when she was growing and he was pretty much everything she had. That is why she keeps reminding him that they are family all the time.
People need to understand that Chen Yi needs to overcome him past before he has any future with MJ. They have not really told us yet what happened to him and how far he went with the gang stuff. MJ is trying to find out all of that so she can help him . I am glad that she is not some pining weak FL but rather an IDGAF badass who wants to get to the bottom of things. I love how she is approaching this ‘problem’ because he is still trying to push her away and she will not take that . So if it appears that she is cruel to him then so be it because sometimes that is what is required. Chen Yi was always and still is very stubborn and has/had an extremely wild streak since they were young. She understands him best.
