She is clearly a tool to drive that wedge between the lead couple (not to say that the FL will also do it through her actions) but I don’t think she is the princess’ tool but rather Marquis Muyang and Consort Qin because they have realized how strong an ally Ye Li is to Prince Ding.

And of course the Empress Dowager is also a piece of work. God knows how much filth is going to come out because she was hand in glove with Muyang with everything that happened in the past. She was power hungry - or Muyang and Qin were power hungry and put the empress dowager on the throne.
