In the novel Wu Xie explicitly says, that he never had any romantic interest in A Ning - but because of the chinese cencor, they need to put it like that, because otherwise it looks to gay ;D the novel are just tomb raiding adventures with Wu Xie, Xiao Ge and Fatty. A Ning isn't really a big big plot part until later on.
