The Yeongno is a fascinating figure that comes from Korean masked stage performances.
The yeongno typical story is as follows: the yeongno had been an omnivorous celestial being, but for some reason gets kicked out of heaven and is now on earth trying to earn its way back. The yeongno is said to be able to eat anything, rocks, iron even shadows, but the good person has nothing to fear.
It's unveiled that to get back to heaven, the yeongno needs to eat 100 yangban (nobleman) to receive salvation so that it can return to heaven and turn into a dragon.
The yeongno is often signified by entering the stage playing a willow pipe which makes a threatening "bibi" sound, which has led the yeongno to be called bibi in some cases, and the mask to be called "bibital".
So, I guess his name Bibi can serve a dual purpose. The reason above and also means rain (비 bi is rain) as he was an imoogi, creature of water and weather..
It's crazy that his cameo in The Haunted Palace is his first sageuk?! Glory Kim, you look so good in hanbok, please do a proper 16 episodes sageuk please
Very fun comedy action flick! The story is simple and the chemistry is good. Kim Youngkwang is very good actor. He did the comedy naturally, not over the top. And when his character turned serious, the change in his eyes are subtle but very clear.
The drama is enjoyable enough. Cinematography is very good, the acting is also good. There are some uncomfortable parts for me, especially when Hongrang flirting with Jaeyi while trying to convince her he's her brother. Jaeyi falling in love with Hongrang also felt a bit rushed. As for the ending, although I'm a fan of happy endings, bc of the overall tone of the drama indicates a sad ending so I'm not very surprised of how it ended.
But I'm a bit confused on little Hwisu timeline... So, he was a slave and a living talisman for a rich family and then he and Insoe was bought by some lady... so, when did he became the Grand Prince captive? Did I miss something?
Also no explanation about the origin of Snow Man, why he got that tattoo in his neck, what's his relation with the Grand Prince. And his wig suck...
