Thanks for your comment. I thought I was the only one not feeling the chemistry and noticing the weird eyebrows.…
Haha. Came across this comment and cant help but laugh at the eyebrow part. I was actually continuously wondering why her eyebrow seems like it’s colored while watching the series, the reflective colouring baffles me so i dont actually noticed her eyebrow’s shape. Lol
Also love the third favourite quote! I feel that this drama is relatable because there is no over the top speeches everywhere like in other period drama. For example, the confession scene of hei fengxi to bai fengxi, as he said, theres no need to say those false promises, i’ll appreciate a do-able promise more! Lol
Yes it should! Damn episode made me bawl the whole way straight and intermittently cries again a couple of episodes after that. Lol. Every time anyone mention lin yi with just a tear running down their face, my tears automatically follows! Lol
Oh. Forgot to add. Wen Gu and Wen Qing at the end are so dang cuteee!!
And second. Qin Chu and Shangguan Yi are two very professional and dignified love rivals i’ve ever seen in a chinese romcom drama. Lol. Kudos to the writer who wrote them like that. Even Xiong Jingjing turns out to be not so annoying

Exactly! Haha. I mean, if you can spend time to watch a 40eps chinese drama, you must at least like it more than half right? Lol. So thats why all my scores are more than 6 if i can watch without dropping it. Lol. And in my book, i seldom dropped watching unless it really triggers me. Lol. Like the legend of xiao chuo 🤣🤣.
I’m generous with my scores. If i can complete the whole series without dropping it, it usually will score above 6.5 at the very least in my book 🤷🏼♀️ For me, what ‘s the point of spending almost 40h on something that you scored 2.5?
If you love ruyi so much (many international fans shy away from palace drama due to its gigantic episode lengths),…
Yes. I watched zhen huan first before yanxi palace and ruyi since it was aired wayyy before ruyi was filmed. Bearing in mind that it was a 2012 production, zhen huan the props and general production may not be as expensive and modern as ruyi or yanxi, but i enjoyed it enough to watch the whole series without fast forward or skipping episodes. The emperor is slightly older than in yanxi/ruyi but as a palace story, the harem plotting and intrigues were interesting to watch. I recommended it if palace dramas is really your cup of tea :)
Just posted my review of this drama (and it was even my first review on this site! Because i prefer writing a comment instead of a review previously. Lol) and here i find myself completely agreeing with you!
I started this drama knowing completely well that it will not happily ever after ending, but even so, like you, i am completely mad of how much the author botch zousheng chen’s character at the end! I can accept if he died protecting his land on the battlefield, but to be killed like a cockroach by not even the rightful ruler?? Tsk3. Totally disappointing And it is obvious to me what is shiyi’s fate in the story after watching ZSC died like that. Theres no way for shiyi to live in the plot after that. The only ending for her is suicide and i was right! Lol. Predictable, scriptwriter. Predictable. *shake head

Haha. I understand why people shy away from stories like this because i also have a few friends who are like that too! People who are used to korean dramas mostly tend be scared away by the number of episodes this chinese dramas usually come with. 😅. Being someone who is growing up watching chinese dramas/historical/palace dramas even though being a non-chinese, i guess i got used to it. Lol
I tried watching oh my emperor before i think (with the added plus of having Xiao Zhan in it 😍😍), but i put it on hold after a couple episodes. Not sure what bugs me with that drama, i just cannot proceed. Lol
Just finish this just now and I completely agree with you. His decision is selfish, he kills a lot of people indirectly by so called ‘honoring his promise’. The more noble route for him is to do theright thing and damn took the throne fgs!
Finished this finally today and though i can say that i quite enjoyed it enough to finish it without contemplating about dropping it halfway once, i must say almost by the end of it, this makes me quite ‘tired’ in a way. Lol. Not sure why, just i think because of XWY’s snobbish, annoying character who was given too much power and too much leeway all too soon and the quite predictable plot sometimes.
Upside: -costumes are aplenty and good looking, both for the females and males 🥰 -first time watching xu kaicheng, his lovey dovey scenes are quite nice and swoon-worthy. I especially like how protective and dependable he seems next to a petite Lusi
Downside: -is there no one else in bianjing who graduates prior to this batch that ZWY can easily climb to (what is potrayed) as such an important position basically just upon graduating? I find that throb a bit hard to be convinced -too much power was given to XWY and his aunt i find it quite unbelievable -not too mention, i was ready to fold him up and squash him somewhere by the near ending episodes. ZWY that is -YYZ is hailed as one of, if not the most top martial artist in bianjing, but somehow he seems to always fall short everytime there’s a fight going on -the fighting choreography needs a little bit more work imho
Theres a lot more i think, but i’ll just leave it at this. Somehow still feeling emotionally tired post watching this. Lol
If it wasnt for simon, i dont think i can finish watching this drama at all.
The plot is all over the place. Being hailed as a story about a firefighter and a doctor, the firefighting scenes are not that superbly done, the rescue mission is simplistic and non-adrenaline induced, and the medical scenes are at best, laughable. *facepalmed
I have issues with basically almost all rescue missions that involves the FL. lol. In what universe is the plan for rescue is decided by the (emotional, hard-headed) doctor on scene? Doctors are medical supports. We treat patients who are already rescued from scenes (and sometimes gives ADVICE), not directed the rescue mission! Thats the responsibility of the head firefighter/rescuer or the officer/police in charge. And dont even get me mention about all the medical procedures! They botched it to the very last details! 🤦🏼♀️
And yes, i agree on what others said about it being pointless including the arch about the drug corruption thingy. I understand if this is a police/military subplot, but you are trying to sell a firefighter/rescuer story here, please focus and do your thing! 🙄
Sorry to say, the FL character/actress really annoyed me to the end. As a doctor, she does not only act overly emotional at times, no empathy (the needle phobia thingy), the way she portrays the profession sometimes come across as embarrassing the profession. It’s hard to like the FL imho.
Found this movie on youtube while surfing. And it has wu lei in it, so being his fan after TLB, i decided to watch it. And oh mannnnn. I was completely cheated by it! I thought this is a fluffy cute, just-nice-to-pass-the-time-kinda-movie at first, and end up bawling my eyes out by the end of it !
All the story arch is so warm and touching. It makes you all fluffy inside, getting you attached then of course, breaks your heart to pieces after that. Lol. Overall, very recommended!
I'm 57 years old. I've watched a LOT of quality television but very little Chinese dramas. In fact RUYI was my…
If you love ruyi so much (many international fans shy away from palace drama due to its gigantic episode lengths), you might want to try legend of concubine zhen huan and story of yanxi palace. I find these palace dramas all very intriguing with its schemes/protocol/politics etc
I felt that the professional portrayal was meh but the military part had more accuracy than the medical part. At least with my limited knowledge
-yes. You got that right. They really botched the medical part of this drama down till the end. Which is quite absurd since this is promoted as a medical/military themed drama. Sometimes you just cant help but wonder did they ever hire any medical advisor to help smooth it over? Almost 90% of the medical scenes are wrong and completely unforgivable it makes me grind my teeth
