I read first few chapters of the novel a year ago then dropped it because it's really scary. My nerve literally can't hold the horror parts 😅

Then I watched the series, and grateful because it has much less horror parts shown.

Then I re-read the novel but still skipped most of the horror parts.

The novel and the series, both are really good.

I would suggest you to watch the series first.

Although you haven't read the novel, the series is much simpler and easy to be followed through.

Actually, the series is quite different from the novel, the characters are made more humane and lots of morale lessons that could be found in our daily life.

As for the MLs relationship, I found the series shows deeper emotion and more characters growth.

As for the chemistry? Oh well... It's superb.

Ruan Lanzhu was an NPC outside the door world that was created after the games exist so that he could purify the game back to its original form.

As an NPC outside the door world, he could move around each door scene to assist other Obsidian players and exclusively assisted Ling Jiushi so that he [LJS] could reach the 10th door and together with RLZ purify the game.

He had always been an NPC from the beginning, not because of dead or was saved by the bracelet after the box demon attacked him. 😊🌻

I could accept the ending well but I was terrified for the horror parts. 😅

People have their own expectations and understanding about the ending.

Some wish it to have a happy ending like in the book, some wish it's not 50 years of separation, some can't stand the angsty ending, some even think that everything is just Lingling's dream.

It is alright to have different perception and whatsoever as long as it doesn't affect the love for this series.
