I love them both and they are a package deal, I don't want to choose. I started the series in the first days after…
Oh woww... I'm a bit of speechless right now. Everything is well said, kinda give me a little slap because of my preference.
I don't dislike the book, but I do admit that I can't read the book completely because of the horror elements. I have this bad habit of bringing things on my mind into my dreams. So yes, I skipped many parts of the book [the horror parts]
I do think the book is really good. We wouldn't have got a great series if the source wasn't good, right?
I love this series, I feel such a great attachment because of doing the subs.
Eversince I started to do the subs, I have watched the entire episodes for more than 5 times [re-watch, find some errors, edit, merge, etc] and still do the editing up until now.
Watching it for many times, it helps to me see a little bit of details that might have been overlooked before, understand every word that was said, and I can see why it was made this way; why each character was designed that way, why LJS was very dense in terms of feeling, why RLZ was depicted as drama queen. [Characterisation in the series, not in the book]
In a more romantic word, I fall in love with the series after knowing each detail. It can be said that my preference to the series mainly because of the subs. [Language is really the most important part of knowing and understanding something]
I admire you for being able to overcome your nightmares, I don't have your courage. 4 thumbs up for you 👍🏼 👍🏼 👍🏼 👍🏼
Owh... I found that reading danmei is more entertaining and comforting tho.
PS. No matter I love the drama, I still can't watch the last few minutes of episode 27 because it's quite scary for me.
The kaleidoscope is a reminder for Ling Jiushi about his childhood friend because when he was a child, he liked to play with it. Unfortunately he didn't really realise it until further episodes.
I started the series, but due to the poor subtitles switched over to the web novel. I'm glad I did, since reading…
What do you mean with fix? The poor subtitles that you mentioned probably not from Iqiyi. I notice youku, Iqiyi and wetv have quite good subtitles. The awful one is mgtv.
Using AI is definitely faster and cheaper than hiring human translator.
An interesting comment. I must say I agree with a lot of your points -- first of all, comparing the two is quite…
Thank you for your response. I really appreciate it.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it can be concluded that I'm more into the drama, while you are more into the novel.
I believe I have stated that comparing is indeed unavoidable, but with the way the story started in the drama, it is quite impossible to wish it to have the same ending like in the novel.
And for the cheeseburgers analogy, I just want to point out that sometimes our subjectivity towards one thing will create one judgment : the thing that is not suitable for my taste is not good.
My apology for being straightword and might offend you guys as the writers of this article and also for many novel readers and drama viewers.
The novel is good, with its own strengths and weaknesses, and the drama which is made based on the novel is also good and it also has its own strengths and weaknesses.
The drama is indeed based on the popular novel, but it was made to be different from the novel on purpose.
If the drama was made exactly like the novel, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have got the NRTA permission from the first place. It would have been shelved perfectly without having a chance to be broadcast at all.
I just hope, wish, that everyone can respect and appreciate the difference wholeheartedly, because respecting and appreciating the drama means respecting and appreciating the entire crew, from the lowest level to the highest one.
Let us respect and appreciate both the novel and the drama equally.
Owh... One more thing.
The name in the drama is Ruan Lanzhu, not Ruan Nanzhu, and Ling Jiushi spent 50 years not 30 years. So... Would you guys mind to have this part edited?
Logically speaking, with the drama will be re-broadcast soon, using the name and exact time based on the drama is really important. Or else it would create confusion to the drama viewers who haven't read the novel.
After all, the article is about the drama, isn't it?
I really admire you for being brave, really do.
I'm just a bit ashamed of being scaredy cat 😬
My dear friend, I need your help to update me whether it is 'brutally' censored or not.
I will watch it after they broadcast all episodes so I can fully binge-watch it.
