Have you already watched Arsenal Military Academy with BaiLu? She is absolutely amazing in that one.
I haven’t. I don’t like those types of dramas but I’m easily swayed by you lol. I especially like XK too so I guess that’s where I’m headed next!

Title Forever and Ever Spoiler
SOME SPOILERS
🧪🥼🎙️🎤

A lot of people have said it’s okay to watch this as a stand-alone. Truly, it’s not. The parallels between this and the prequel with One and Only are missed if you don’t see them.
For instance:
1. The toxic family here is reflective of toxic royal family in OaO
2. 11 gets both loving parents here as a redemption
3. ZSC still has his loyal group of followers from the adviser in the form of Uncle Lin (he deserves an award lol) to the loyal friend who is really Crown Prince doing his penance in this lifetime for him.
4. 11 carries over her fear of heights, love of library, aversion to wearing red, fall from the heights, interminable waiting for each other and traveling and their souls calling them back to the western state/xian
5. The contrasts of the characters are so sweet and details. OaO has ZSC as the dashing, chivalrous hero and 11 as a “meek” yet devoted student who is loyal in her love. In FaE they switch and ZSC maintains his chivalry but is now nervous and shy while 11 is upfront and bold in their relationship.
6. They start off writing emails to each other for 6 months just like 11 and ZSC would communicate via army reports.
7. The rain and snow being storytelling devices.
8. The “sleeping next door to each other” when they would rather be sleeping together in the same room

I think without seeing the first one you miss the emotional pull and sighs of relief every time they stand up to their family and friends in defense of their love and devotion of each other. They protected each other with their lives and are their historical selves just living in the modern world. It’s fulfilling and heals some of the pain from the end of OaO. I STILL cant deal with the last 2 episodes back there but I STRONGLY encourage you watch OaO first. This is not as good as a modern standalone drama with no context.

Happy viewing 🧪📚🎙️

I watched it based on your review. I hate sad endings. I’m so traumatized but it was worth my time.
No regrets. I’m still traumatized though. I won’t be rewatching it. I’m almost done with Forever and Ever and I’m still feeling the PTSD especially when they flashback or play “their song”

ZSC treasuring CSY with his eyes the first time and every damn time has my heart broken and shattered.

The classical “ideal gentleman” of Chinese historical dramas is embodied here.

Actually I don't like sad endings and I'm avoiding most of them but here I am. I couldn't resist the beautiful…

JAYSUS. I have some serious trauma to sort through. Bai Lu’s BONE BREAKING PAIN she had on her face when her mom told her what happened broke me. That and knowing how RJL went. That’s some unbearable shit.

I’m a fan of HE and stay away from others. But I DO RECOMMEND you watch it. The anxiety started making me sick toward the last few episodes bc I kept waiting for it to start happening.

Special shout-out to the loyalty of ZSC’s Prince who was his sworn brother, the brotherhood and companionhood of the monk and the pure, honest live of the main CP

Wow. Just wow.

I started this show with no expectations bc I saw clips of it on YT but the whole show was even better than the clips.

I think there are some topics in this drama that are lost on an international audience. Just a few things to note below as this drama was incredibly progressive and addressed a lot of China trying to continue to move forward and take their forward momentum even further.
1. This drama was broken into thirds. 1/3 with the gaming portion tried to promote a real game. This portion really drew in a lot of the younger viewers in China. 2/3 addressed the fandom and cnetz in an attempt to be tactful. It’s showing their obsessiveness and also trying to lend a lesson in learning how to be civil and respect privacy of individuals in the entertainment industry. Hope the super fans got the hint. 3/3 and interwoven throughout was the focus on the space program. This was a nationalistic push and a source of pride as China recently is taking space and claiming their part in the “space race”. The background meetings, sacrifice of aerospace families and the final song about the eagle really stirs up Chinese cultural pride. For those that are not Chinese, this may seem boring but the goal is to recognize and stir up patriotism. 🇨🇳
2. The romance was mature. The conflict was dealt with, conversations were had and we saw how adults that loved each other dealt with separation. It was so rewarding to see a couple that loved each other, hated the separation but bore it in support of each other and kept their career and family goals still at the forefront without sacrifice.
3. This is the first time I’ve seen in-laws move away from the stereotype of not liking their son/daughter in laws career and being nosy and passing on the generational guilt. Both sets of parents were progressive and understood it was their children’s that should make choices about their life and they were supportive of their in laws.
4. Yu Tu was destined for this success based on his name. Look up his name and the goddess Chang’e’s story.
5. I loved the romance and the time jumps. I love how their mischievous personalities were such an asset to their love and to their family and friends and co workers.
6. The drama was real and offered social discourse. Sickness and being alone//rejection from expressing your feelings//long distance relationships//family obligations//dreams vs money//generational struggles.

This show had a lot to offer. I cackled at parts, I squeezed my body into a ball when I couldn’t handle the sweetness anymore between YT and JJ and my heart burst with pride with the success of China’s space probe. I loved the perspective that a decade + of your youth is devoted to a dream and the manifestation of the personal dream that brings pride to your country and spouse is unmatchable.

I strongly recommend this modern drama. I can’t believe how much I loved it as a usual xianxia watcher. Dilreba, Yang Yang and supporting cast were fantastic 🔭🛰️🌠🎀

At ep 7 now...does this get any better? I can't keep my focus on this drama, it is so boring
I think it does get better once the leads interact more. Try to hold
On til ep 11/12. Otherwise you may drop
