In the novel he is only 19 when he meets He Simu, and it’s his first military assignment
So he’s not meant to have that heavy "gravitas", the youthful energy actually fits the character rather than being a flaw.

I really like how Fei yu gives off that young, inexperienced general energy instead of acting like a fully mature commander.

Exactly!! For some Cdramas, I really miss the 50/60 episode era.

My only complaint about POJ is that it really needed more than 40 episodes to fully do the story justice. There’s so much depth in the plot that a lot of it deserved more space on screen, and I really wish we had more time to properly go through everything, and even enjoy it for a little longer. (I’m saying this as a novel reader, don’t get me wrong).
