They tend to review every episode if there are any explicit/inappropriate/violent scenes for important reasons the Chinese govt prefers to have a very good reputation meaning they like to be a good influence to the public/citizens of their nation bc it can affect everyone's life mentally/physically if they take it too seriously. If it doesn't pass censorship overall they will cut out certain scenes that don't belong on screen, they could possibly delay it by months/years until it passes review or they can keep it shelved due to certain scandals for a long time or w/o airing it at all which is the worst case scenario for all of us "fans" but there can also be other situations that can affect the production of the drama itself that we viewers don't know of that's why it's a huge deal in China for them to have strict rules/laws regulations there.

In the novel there is very little but it's not the main focus it's more about sports & the FL's journey as for the drama I've seen reuters of some romance w/ the ML

It still hasn't passed censorship & received a distribution license even if it did the network won't air it right away since they have to broadcast other dramas too. They have to plan an investment promotional event for the cast & figure out a monthly time slot whenever they decide to air it w/ China being very strict sadly ☹️
