Yeap! I just saw a few episodes of A Girl Like Me and I just wanted to throw up at how bad it was! I just read the novels now. I can't be bothered with half the dramas. I hope The Legend of Anle lives up to its novel

Oh man, I just re-read your comment! And yes, some of the best dramas were the online one with great actors but not enough traffic like Detective L or Ancient Detective etc just to name a few.

I can add to that adaptation one, another one was Jiu Jing Ling, The Princess Weiyoung to name a few. It's disappointing because a lot of the female characters are capable, complex and enduring in the novel but the minute they make it to the screen, they serve as the heroic catalyst for the lead. If they ruin Ren Anle, I'm throwing virtual hands lol

Same! TLB was definitely a highlight for this year! I can't believe it was just in Feb it aired. It does seem like forever. I find that the novels of those dramas are much better.

LOL sorry I suddenly laughed @her dad's funeral. But you're right but that's the thing about a lot of these C-dramas. They build the whole drama around the star and not the story! Therefore, you get impeccable looking stars but shitty as plots/storyline with real depth. It can get tiring being a fan of C-dramas but historical dramas are my weakness but man, a good historical drama with a stellar cast and stoyline is hard to come by. Joy of Life season 2 where are you? lol

Exactly! it doesn't help that her team tend to get her scripts where the character lacks development or any form of complexity or depth to them. There's no diversity in her acting cannon just the same old characters. I guess when you have a cutesy image to uphold, the roles you go for have to match.

Completely agree! When paired alongside actors who emote very well like JZ, she is not up to par. I think I will give it a miss for the time being.

I will give this a chance before I drop it, probably when the jealous ex's come into the mix. Something about the Princess's characterisation seems off like the writers couldn't decide whether they wanted her to be mature or carefree or both. For a previous Empress, she has no real redeeming quality. I think it also lies in the portrayal of the FL. As the lead, I feel like Ju Jing Yi lacks onscreen presence that when on screen with her co-stars, she's easily overshadowed.
