I think it was meant to mislead the audience because later whilst they are dating she explained that during that time in college, they were close friends and people assumed they were together. The situation made her have a tiny crush on him but the Song Jing guy was basically using her as a backup while he pursued a senior with connections. When the senior was no longer interested, he confessed to the FL but by the FL rejected him. After he went abroad and people assumed it was because they broke up.
The episode 4 is contradictory but the baseline is that neither of them have dated before. They were all basically rumors

5 minutes in and I’m hooked. Arm flying, amazing fight scene and finally seeing a brutal Tang clan as seen in most manhwas. Because in most cdrama Wuxia series, the tang clan is too tame (instead of being very gray almost black even) and poison secondary. Glad to see a ruthless Tang clan in here though I have just watched 10 minutes looking forward to seeing more
