Not sure about Viki but this is an original iQIYI drama so they rarely get picked up by Netflix because iQIYI doesn't have a contract with them unlike Youku and Tencent. I'm also hoping iQIYI will sign a deal with Netflix so their dramas can be streamed there too, though.

According to the calendar, no. Just one episode per day until the end. But that might change since Cheng Yi's Deep Lurk is premiering today so it will have serious competition on the iQIYI site at least. They may want to release more episodes at once through express package.

In Chinese mythology, he's a river god, the god of the yellow river to be exact. That's why he can manipulate water. Ying Long is a winged rain dragon in Chinese mythology. But it's quite possible that Bingyi will be portrayed as a water dragon while Ying Long is a fire dragon so they can cancel each other out. Based on the MV, Yichen will grow feathered wings, though. There's a creature in Chinese myths that has the head of a dragon, the body of a lion, and the wings of a bird. So it's also possible that Bingyi is not a dragon but this creature.

I am normally not this active on MDL. In fact, I was just a lurker for years and just decided to make an account earlier this year. I used to just come here to check out some of the reviews and comments if I was hesitant to watch certain dramas. But for some reason, Fangs of Fortune compelled me to share my thoughts with you guys. So thank you! Whether this drama ends on a high note or not, it has been fun interacting with you guys. I just wanted to say that.

Don't forget, they used the "cutting sleeves" line in a conversation between Bai Ju and Ying Lei and Ying Lei does seem to be a little too attached to Bai Ju. I also read somewhere Bai Ju was originally written to be an older character, not a 13-year-old. Those of us who know what that means know what that scene really means to convey. And then there's the fact that they kept promoting this drama by making the male leads interact in certain ways that scream BL to me. I mean, why would you ask Yan An and Minghao to princess carry each other? Why would you challenge Jiarui and Zhenxuan to pretend like they're kissing? I knew exactly what they were doing, they were trying to appeal to the BL-loving crowd to promote this drama.

I had a discussion with other folks here about how the Baize goddess and her part in this story doesn't quite make sense as if it was an add-on and was not really supposed to be part of the plot in the beginning, and that the Baize token is nothing more than a macguffin. Once they got it, it was hardly ever used again. If the goddess is supposed to play a significant role in this story, then Wen Xiao would've been written to be more powerful and she would've used that token every chance she got. That token would've had powers beyond just binding demons because that's basically the representation of the real goddess. And yet, it was just the thing that they were looking for in the beginning, when they found it, it broke, and then they went on a quest to fix it. After they fixed it, it's barely used. And that's why Wen Xiao's character is underdeveloped. It's like the writer doesn't quite know what to do with her. So I'm beginning to think that she was never supposed to be part of this story at all, or at least she wasn't originally supposed to have a bigger role other than a potential love interest. Guo Jingming does like putting BL elements into his stories and if rumors are true, he's not actually straight. So a male-centric drama would be more his speed. I believe he originally wrote this to be a bromance with a side love story and found family tropes.

Exactly! The hetero romance is an add-on. Yes, it's there. But it's not really the focus. This feels like a male-centric drama, not necessarily BL, but more bromance-oriented like Mysterious Lotus Casebook. There's romance but that's pretty much just a subplot. Funny, Chen Duling also plays Li Lianhua's ex-lover in that drama.

But that's the thing, I don't think she was supposed to be developed or even part of the story at all. I had the same discussion about the Baize goddess and Baize token thingy. They don't seem to have much use in this world. After they got the token, it was hardly used. It was a macguffin that moved the plot forward in the beginning. But once they got it, that was the end of it. If the goddesses and their powers hold any real significance in this world, they would have had a vital role in fighting demons and Wen Xiao would've used her powers every chance she got. But the token is pretty much just a flute, something she can use to bind demons when it's convenient and most of the time, she can only use it with Zhu Yan helping her. We don't really know what it does beyond that.

Yep. Many have been complaining that this story arc is boring, saying that the drama should get back on track because Yichen's story is not important to the plot. I suppose they just want everything to focus on the romance or Zhu Yan. But this is also about Zhu Yan and his relationship with Yichen. Their partnership is vital to the plot.

I know there are people who are complaining that the drama has deviated from the plot and focused too much on Zhuo Yichen. The thing is, Yichen is as vital to the plot as Zhu Yan and Wen Xiao. He is a natural foil for Zhu Yan's character. He's the one who possesses a demon-slaying sword that can destroy Zhu Yan. The fact that his ancestor is Lord Bingyi, the god of the yellow river in Chinese mythology and Zhu Yan is either the reincarnation or descendant of Ying Long, the dragon god, means that their relationship is one of the foundations of this story. It's obvious from the first episode that the bromance between these two characters will become a focal point of the story later on. Yichen losing the Cloud Light sword and finally reaching a tacit understanding with Zhu Yan is the author's way of telling the viewers that a compromise can be reached between two hostile parties and that enemies can indeed turn into friends if they only bother to understand where the other is coming from. This is also an essential part of Yichen's character development. Each of the characters get their character arcs, it just so happens that this story arc is Yichen's. And if you need further proof of the importance of the bond between both men, the latest episode established that Zhu Yan will do anything to save Yichen. He even promised to no longer seek death, their previous agreement of Yichen killing him already forgotten. This drama has always been about found family and friendship, the romance has never been the focus. It is but one aspect of the story.

I already answered this on your other post. 😄 Li Lun is tall and dark-haired, Fei, the calamity demon, has silver hair. If anything, Fei looks more like the mountain god, Ying Lei, who has blond hair. Fei won't even hurt a fly if he can help it. He can never be the villain. All he wants is to be happy and free, and live together with the woman he loves.

He's not evil in any way. He loves humanity and the mortal world. He hates that he cannot help his own nature because he doesn't want to harm people at all. He's probably the nicest demon in this whole drama.

You mean Fei? He's the calamity demon not a tree demon. Li Lun is the pagoda demon.

You mean Li Lun? No he's not as old as the original goddess. The great demon who partnered with the original goddess was Cheng Lei. Li Lun is around the same age as Zhu Yan. They were chosen to protect the Wilderness together.

What???!! They wouldn't have dared do that to a more popular actor for sure! Poor Jiarui must've just taken it like a man and not complained at all. They also submerged him in freezing cold water in the midst of winter!

Nah, that was the hug of a loving and concerned sister. If you notice Hermione was the same with Harry. But she and Ron were always so awkward together. When you like someone and you're not officially a couple yet, it's harder for you to show your affections to them because it feels awkward. She and Yichen grew up like siblings. She's more familiar with him but her feelings for him are purely platonic.

This! She even killed her own brother because she thought he was an evil demon. Her reaction to Yichen turning into a violent demon was on point.

I was very hesitant to watch MJTY, I am still hesitating a bit, because I'm not into romance-centric dramas and I'm not exactly a fan of the FL. But for Rui2x, I'll try. lol

He does have that Cheng Yi swag to him when in costume, but also Cheng Yi's silliness out of costume. 😄 He should play Cheng Yi's brother in a drama, that would be fun to watch. Looks like I will finally watch My Journey to You. 😂
