I didnāt read the novel, but by how the drama presented it, this script wanted to give more depth to Zeng Jieās character, as he is someone being emasculated by women and with his biological inferiority, it could leads to his psychological vulnerability and imbalance easily, hence resulting in committing murder, his high hunger to pursue for power and his fear of imperfection as well as his promiscuity behaviour.
