What is this synopsis! Don't tell me baby Li Qin and Gu are going friends to enemies.😵💫
I think the synopsis is incorrect. This is from IQIYI: The Legend of the Magnate is a historical epic drama written and directed by Zhang Ting ("Wild Bloom"), starring Chen Xiao ("Thirteen Years of Dust", "Nothing Gold Can Stay"), Sun Qian ("The Winter Solstice", "Wind Direction"), Luo Yizhou ("Youth With You Season 3"), and Cheng Taishen ("The Secret Path", "A Lifelong Journey").
The story follows Gu Pingyuan, a scholar who is falsely accused and exiled. Faking his death to survive, he navigates treacherous political and social landscapes, strategically leveraging opportunities to rise again. Starting with a money exchange business, he builds his fortune through tea, establishes his enterprise with salt, and eventually provides grain to feed the people. Through his unique methods and resilience, he stages a powerful comeback in the business world, ultimately becoming a great merchant who brings prosperity to his region.
Let me clarify because it seems people misunderstood what I meant. “Damsel in distress” may not have been…
I understand what you mean on your above comment. Your clarification also confirmed my similar views, I also dislike a ‘damsel in distress’ trope and hope the drama script doesn’t go into that direction. In the novel, NJL is super badass😍, really like a Lara Croft but much more powerful because she has special blood. Let’s hope the drama NJL will not deviate too far from the novel.;)
Seriously? Worse in the novel? I didn’t think they stand a chance as things are now 🤣😬😂
Yeah, they didn’t, the hunters’ group sustained heavy death toll when they encountered fiends…they only got better later when the blade FL, whip girl (yet appear) and dog (the blind guy) started to work together as a team.
4 ep done, I enjoyed it, the acting, pacing and scenes are very beautifully set up. It’s really fun to watch Chinese actors being able to narrate their dialogue with clarity. The only part I am feeling unbelievable about is how ML was set up during the exam. I understand he has an old mother and worried for her, however just hearing somebody said something, he became so reactive and jeopardized his own chance and got sentenced. Maybe this drama is showing how he was young, impulsive and immature at those times….wondered how he became so wise in first ep.
As someone who read the novel, i feel like a lot (not all) of what people are questioning and classifying as plot…
💯 agreed. Just feel like some viewers are not familiar with watching thrill and suspense drama, the format is that the back story will be revealed and one will understand more of why certain events or decisions are make. I guessed some people are just quick to judge.😅
I just watched Ep. 9 and I am speechless. why does nie jieluo always insist on working independently? she should…
You can see it in two reasons: one is that she knew she is blade, the only person among them that can kill the fiend, so she doesn’t want to burden her friends. Secondly, she does know in the group, none of them can fight as well as her, so to her it’s pointless to call them over, they may end up being kill. She has to go take course on teamwork😅.
Not a comparison but an observation. I am reading the novel, and I realised in the novel, the human hunters were even much weaker, they have no possiblity of winning the fiend. So this script has already made the human hunters a lot more coordinated despite their lack of real life fighting experience, the human hunters were at least able to defend themselves without NJL’s involvement.
