Why is it so hard to find happiness? Will this misery ever end?
This is the story of Daon's perfectly "normal" life which was turned upside down by Seong Hyeon, a lovely retriever. The plot takes a huge turn when this introduction of a good guy bothers his old college seniors. That's where this miserable life of Daon started, or should I say, that it's always been like this, unbeknownst to him.• Storyline: Was just brilliant! The writer perfectly knitted every twist so brilliantly that the audience can't even guess how the plot will take a turn in the second half of the episode. It was a thriller jam-packed with anticipation and excitement.
• Characters:
>From the beginning till the end, all the characters, Daon, Seong Hyeon, Jaemin and Su Hyeon, didn't even let me blink for a second.
>Daon's helplessness, Seong Hyeon's yearning for love, Jaemin & Su Hyeon's toxic maniac traits made me sit on the edge and feel all uneasy.
>Jaemin and Su Hyeon's obsessive nature towards Daon was hard to watch as we saw him suffer and suffer. Even if he wanted to love or be loved, they made sure not to let him live in peace, as they were both were burning in jealousy. Even if Su Hyeon was somewhat decent in comparison with Jaemin, who was a complete psycho lunatic!
>At some point, they thought of Daon as a possession that one is dying to possess by discarding the fact he's a human. He has feelings too. The burnout from the everyday pitiful life of Daon was visibly painful to watch. The scope of finding the light of hope seemed to be narrowing down the tunnel with each episode.
>On the other hand, Seong Hyeon was trying his best to be emotionally and physically available to Daon as he deeply fell in love with him without knowing that the other two would never give up on him and try their best not to let him succeed in love.
• Acting: Can you believe the actors are rookies and this is their first and biggest lead roles? I mean, I can't even imagine how hard work it needed to deliver this great acting.
• Music: The BGMs were enjoying it as they created a suspenseful environment throughout the episodes.
After so long, the BL industry understood who was the king of great plots, i.e. KBLs! There's no match! We've seen so many good guy-bad guy toxic romances, but this storyline was beyond my expectations. It's like a breath of fresh air among all the raw, poor, half-baked, NC-filled BLs out there. THE ANGST WAS ANGSTING LIKE NO OTHER! omg so hotttt ヾ(•̀з•́)ノ゙ YEAHHH!
Overall, a highly recommended drama for those who are bored with all the mediocre BLs out there and want to watch something that'll keep you on the edge, then this is for you. What a brilliant roller-coaster bumpy ride it was! I'm speechless!
HANDS DOWN-
THE. BEST. KBL. EVERR! PERIODT.
The way each and every episode was woven with intricate twists and turns, left me OPEN-MOUTHED!
(I'm giving it a 9.5 and deducting -0.5 because I'm petty af! Muahaha!)
Finding clarity in the smokey shadows of adult life
The storyline centered around two former co-workers in their forties who left their corporate jobs and unexpectedly reconnected, leading to their bittersweet and mature love story. The drama explored the themes of personal growth, second chances, and emotional healing of the individuals.I love how the narrative of the storyline is subtle and deliberately emotional which highly focused on the quiet moments and complexities of adult relationships rather than high-stakes drama or sensational plot twists, so expect it to be slow paced. It portrayed the struggles of burnout and the search for meaning beyond the corporate grind, which resonated deeply, especially to those familiar with the pressure of modern work life.
I find this tone of the drama is "oddly peaceful,". Loved how it's dark visual filters emphasized the characters' emotional states. This approach gave the drama a contemplative mood which made me feel engaged with the characters' internal journeys as like my own.
The lead characters, Kuji and Azuma, were well-developed. They showed realistic flaws and vulnerabilities just like any other human beings trying to get through life. Their performance was heavy in subtlety and depth which captured their nuanced emotions of middle-aged love, friendship and acceptance. My personal favourite scene would be that conversation with Kuji and Azuma's nephew. The nephew's words offered pure, innocent acceptance. It was the first time Kuji heard a concrete proof that his presence was s genuinely welcomed by Azuma's family. The sudden, overwhelming realization that he was safe, accepted, and allowed to be vulnerable completely broke through Kuji's stoic defense mechanisms, triggering his tears. It was heartwarming.
However, it may not appeal to everyone, particularly those expecting more traditional or dramatic romance elements. It is not your typical BL which you have anticipated, but rather a mature romance with the heavy focus on emotional connection and life transitions through ups and downs.
But these things worked for me:
>Mature and realistic portrayal of love and life after corporate burnout
>Strong, nuanced performances by the lead actors
>The dynamic relationship between Azuma and Kuji and how they silently relied on eachother
>When Azuma was visibly affectionate, Kuji was a man of action. He silently stayed by his side, cooked for him to calm him down, put up a mirror infront of him to find a better version of himself, listened to him and gave his heartfelt feedbacks. They were silently there for eachother, comforting and providing clarity to eachother's life.
>Thoughtful pacing and emotional depth building
>The ending song "Black Out" by CROWN HEAD stole my heart. The vibe and tune of the song compliment Kuji and Azuma's life.
Overall, it is a quiet drama that offered a heartfelt exploration of middle-aged love and personal rediscovery. Its strength was in its emotional sincerity and mature storytelling, making it a rewarding watch for those who appreciates subtle, character-driven narratives. If you enjoy dramas that focus on life's quieter moments and the complexities of adult relationships, this series is definitely worth your time.
The racer and the doctor both failed at their jobs but won in love
A doctor who will cure your disease ❌A doctor who will make you gay ✅
I don't watch verticals as their lack of depth doesn't pull me in, but when this was released, the YT recommendation pinned it on my forehead that I SHOULD watch it.
I wasn't sure why I should watch this, but the first episode was... well, that convinced me to watch the whole series. And guess what? I DON'T REGRET A THING!
Storyline wise, it's dubious, nonsensical, wacky, trashy but SOO GOOD!!! ✋🤣
The acting is decent, don't expect too much, the background music was well-chosen as they fitted every situation. And OH MY...the chemistry was *chef's kiss*. There was some awkwardness between the two, especially in the kissing scenes, but negligible.
So don't believe my words, just watch it. It's so damn entertaining that you'll actually forget to use the brain 👏🤡❤️🔥
P. S: I hope you never meet this doctor in your life, but what about your fever dreams? Sure! 😹
My rating is based on the entertainment value only, as it was wayyyy superior to the logic (was there any? Idc lol) or the storyline👌🌝
In friendship, age has no bar.
"If we only accept pretty things, then this whole town will be wiped out, won't it?"Let's go karaoke is a random slice-of-life movie where you meet two bizarre yet perfect combination of characters in a questionable wholesome situation. A 40yr old yakuza Kyouji asks a 14yr old choir boy Satomi to teach him “how to sing”. After reading the synopsis you would expect a scary looking yakuza threatening a timid school boy to get what he wants. But in reality it's the opposite. How? That's for you to discover.
The movie is pretty much about the adolescent boy teaching him how to sing and founding himself in unusual situations with scary yakuza members. The absurdity of the whole plot is the juxtaposition of scary yakuza image and them taking karaoke singing competition so seriously like their life depends on it. Thanks to this film I found another banger “Kurenai” >.<
The bgm and hilarious singing adds up to it.
It's only possible for Japan to deliver this kind of unique plot. Throughout the film you watch two mismatched people come closer and forming a bond. Both the actors skillfully depicted the intricate emotions of their distinct characters.
I'm that type of person who reads the manga/webtoon first before diving into the series/movies. The mangaka, Yama Wayama has my heart and soul. Her art style is just my type. I read and watched “Captivated by you” long ago which I absolutely adored it but sadly was unaware of this manga. The way she combined and delivered all the essence of characters in panels is just phenomenal.
Definitely recommend them, both the one-shot manga and its lovely adaptation.
Bloodline doesn't make you family, but heart does.
This is a story of the friendship of a mother-daughter duo who got each other's back through thick and thin. Let me be clear, this is neither a rom-com nor a heavy emotional drama but a proper mature drama with no adult scenes. I refer this as a mature drama because they deal with certain emotions which are not easily understandable for a teenager or a minor. If you're one, then I doubt you will enjoy this as much as I did.The plot revolves around the world of this duo. Here the daughter, Jin hee is a lot mature than her mother Eun mi. Eun mi is an independent, feisty, confident woman who likes to have fun, be reckless but never let anyone even her daughter control her life. She is her own boss who spice up this duo's life. On the other hand, Jin hee is calm, confident and a diligent daughter who works as a police officer. They have different opinions and values of life, but they try to hurt each other's feelings. They're more like constantly bickering friends than anything. At first, Eun mi's character might feel selfish, but she has every reason to act like that. She became a single mother at the age of 16 and never got to enjoy her life like normal youngsters. And Jin hee got matured at an early age because of her situation. They are very protective of each other. Like yin and yang they both of them complete each other. The chemistry between these two is too awesome! Sometimes they'll make you laugh, sometimes they'll make you cry too.
Another reason for calling this a mature drama is because how they dealt with the family issues. At first when Eun mi started dating Jin hee's biological father after 30 years, I thought this is weird. how come she can act like nothing happened and date the person who was unaware of his own child. Then she declared very clearly that even if she date this person Jin hee will always be her top priority and irrespective of Jin hee's relation with person she will be her child, ONLY HER'S. They were awkward and hesitant at first but they overcome that and accepted this whole thing as a fresh start. The biological father never demanded to be treated as her father because he can never fill the blank space in Jin hee's life. She's happy as the way things are and so there's no need to complicate things further. They respected each other's space which created a harmony in them.
From the very beginning they got me hooked. The drama, suspense, emotional scenes, all were shot very realistically. I adored each character even if they were flawed. Many viewers said that they wanted to see the romance between Jin hee and Jae won but let's not forget that main lead here is the Mother-daughter duo, they focused on the relationship between these two.
It was an interesting journey to core of a mother-daughter relationship. Almost felt like I was watching myself on the screen.
GRITTY AND INTENSE THRILLER TO BOGGLE YOUR MIND
I watched this series back in 2019 while I was on a trip with my family and decided to binge watch all the downloaded episodes in the bus. That was dumb. I agree cuz after watching this series I was left dazed and in denial for days. Last time I was this baffled when I watched the "House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths" docu series.
From first 5 min to last minute I was hooked! I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. All of characters were written equally weird and wonderful. Not only Im Si Wan and Lee Dong Wook acted well but also the other characters like Park Jong Hwan, Lee Joong ok and Lee Jung Eun created an eerie aura which will make you realise how gruesome-ly each characters are real.
Revenge, Violence and Trauma; the trio that sank this wicked ship!
A wicked game that started with a thrilling pace, later ruined its own game by repetitive trauma-porn.As a fan of DaouOffroad, I had my faith in them, and they didn't disappoint. But I am HELLA disappointed with how the storyline was aligned. It was faulty, full of nonsense violence and hate.
Hear me out, I inhale red flags like I need oxygen, but this was beyond toxic and infuriating. I cannot fathom how it turned into this mess. The three step-siblings are THE WORST. I haven't seen such trashy characters. Okay, I understand that they were exposed to hate and negativity throughout their lives, but that doesn't mean I SHOULD SUFFER IN HELL PIT OF NEGATIVITY LIKE THIS!?
Where's my redemption arc? No one is going to jail? What about Than proving his innocence?
*sigh*
Overall, watch it if you want your brain to fry like bacon, because it'll squeeze your last brain juices as it ends. Don't tell me I didn't warn you.
P.S: A disclaimer from @Jelena Petrovic to you guys "If I had paid any money to watch this, I'd demand it back" 🤣
Too bad Ms Incognito didn't use VPN :(
Good premise, it could've been a bang on thrilling kdrama of the year but wasted its potential.✧Storyline:
This drama started with one mood then ventured into different genres to come back again to its initial interest. When I started watching this, the first two episodes were fantastic, but as I proceeded further, the thriller essence of the storyline started fading, and it lost grip of the strong premise. But not long after its disappointment, the story tried hard to win back the thrill and, honestly, it did, but for some it was too late. People had already lost their patience and many dropped it.
✧Acting:
Out of all the characters, the evil stepdaughter, Ga Seong Young, was outstanding. Her cold, murderous gaze was chilling. As her heinous psychotic acts grew nastier, she became more deadly. Other than her, the lawyer and the kindergarten principal gave noteworthy performances. But unfortunately, FL and ML couldn't capture my attention as they should. I ended up fast forwarding many of their scenes as it was getting boring. Some side characters were unnecessary as they wasted a lot of time in them.
I do understand that it was hard to balance the whole structure without a strong base. The base it created was already weak, but I have to admit there were some mind-blowing suspense elements that certainly made my heart beat faster.
Overall, it's definitely watchable, but I wouldn't recommend it as a crisp thriller piece, but if you want to watch it, take the risk!
How about we get miserable together? That's my proposal to you!
This drama stands out as a compelling and intense BL that defies the typical cookie-cutter K-BL genre expectations. Far from a conventional love story, it dug deeper into the dark, more complex facets of relationships, marked by toxicity, possessiveness, and highly flawed characters. The raw and unfiltered chemistry of the MLs truly baffled me with their portrayal of intense scenes, which created a gripping narrative that hooked me with its emotional tension and psychological depth. The power dynamics of Taeson and Chaeha and their chemistry was electrifying! When I started binging, their first meeting did seem memorable to me, but they continued to grow on me in a way that I was unable to move on from how much of a strong presence they hold, especially Taeson. He's curt and emotionless outside, but inside he holds a firing fuel of revenge. He couldn't be emotional as his job required him to be ruthless, but Chaeha's very first introduction shook his core again because both of them hold a special secret that can either break or hold them together. Taeson was like that type of person who would want to own his own person; in a way he could emotionally, mentally and physically dominate just to satisfy his anger. As compared to him, Chaeha had a very submissive, pushover/doormat character with a frail and delicate physique. He was frail and didn't really physically defend himself in any situation, rather got cursed and hurt a lot. A perfect toy for Taeson.
The production quality is remarkably better but very low budgeted. Full of AI scenes that made me roll my eyes. But the storytelling with a polished visual style complimented the intense performances of all the characters. The MLs were awesome but the psycho lady, her lover and their product...the actors delivered grounded, nuanced portrayals that brought authenticity to their conflicted roles. It made the characters' struggles and passions feel palpably real. No wonder I got goosebumps whenever they were on-screen.
What makes this drama particularly intriguing was its willingness to explore uncomfortable themes and imperfect love. It did mentally challenge me to engage with the messy yet pitiful realities of human connection rather than idealized romance, unlike other shallow BLs out there. This bold approach in itself is praiseworthy
But surely and obviously it was not without flaws.
-As I mentioned earlier, persistent usage of AI in the kdrama industry is bothering me. The scene at the end was odd and obvious AI edited. It looked so fake.
-Chaeha's character is too dumb and sloppy for a ex-police officer and current investigator.
-I could easily guess the killer. That was sloppy.
-ending was sooo sudden and rushed. Felt like they ended abruptly.
What I absolutely loved other than the MLs was the OSTs! Three songs, all of them are bop! How can this be possible?! I love love love them. They set the mood for intense and suspenseful scenes, which indeed elevated the rating for me. The OSTs get a +1 rating from me.
In summary, "The Prosecutor's Proposal" is a must-watch for those seeking a BL series that pushes boundaries, offering a dark, emotionally charged experience that lingers long after the credits roll.
When life is unfair, sometimes choosing to live is the bravest rebellion
Some film entertains you, some film stays with you as long as you live; and then there are films like Viva La Vida that quietly breaks your heart and leave pieces of it scattered long after the credits roll. The story follows Ling Min (Peng Yuchang), a young woman battling kidney failure whose life has been reduced to hospital visits, dialysis machines, and the exhausting waiting for a transplant that may never come. When she crossed paths with Lu Tu (Li Gengxi), a man carrying his own heavy burdens. They formed an unlikely partnership built on survival, stubborn hope, and the fragile belief that tomorrow might still be worth fighting for.
What made Viva La Vida devastating was how painfully real Ling Min’s journey felt. Her frustration, anger, and quiet desperation to live seeped through every scene. She wasn’t a heroic patient bravely smiling through her suffering—she’s a human too, flawed, tired and sometimes selfish. And that honesty was exactly what makes her story hit so hard.
Lu Tu entered her life like an unexpected spark. He’s chaotic, sharp-tongued, and seemingly fearless, yet beneath that rebellious energy lies someone just as wounded as Ling Min. Their relationship isn’t a typical cinematic romance; it’s messy, awkward, raw, and built on two people clinging to each other while standing at the edge of despair.
Peng Yuchang delivered a performance that felt almost too real to watch at times. You don’t just see Ling Min’s pain—you feel it in the heavy silences, the tired smiles, the moments where hope flickers and dies in her eyes. Li Gengxi as Lu Tu balanced the darkness with a strange, bittersweet warmth that made the story breathe. His clumsy innocence and clingy affection is bound to win audience's heart.
What truly devastated me was the film’s quiet reminder that life doesn’t always offer neat resolutions. Sometimes survival itself is the victory. Sometimes love appears in the most unexpected moments, not to save us—but to remind us that we are still alive and what it meant to be alive.
Viva La Vida isn’t just about illness or survival. It’s about the fragile courage it takes to keep living when life feels unbearably unfair to live again.
By the end, I'm left with a lump in my throat and a single haunting thought that, sometimes the bravest thing a person can do… is simply choose to live.
"A marriage born from desperation turned into a miracle of love.”
Overall, I urge everyone to watch this movie because the amount of internal enlightenment you'll receive after watching this, it'll enough to make one realise how precious being alive feels. Of course the reality is harsh but there's still hope, it might come in different shapes, colours and sizes, be sure to recognise it when it finds you. It definitely will.
P.S: keep two box of tissues with you. IT'S A MUST! I look like a puffy mess right now 🤧
TRASH⁹⁹⁹
If you don't want to f*ck with your own mind don't watch this and save yourself from watching THE MOST humiliating pathetic portrayal of "love".In the beginning I felt this is gonna be quite promising and artistic, so I was anticipating for a real emotional wreck kind of romance.
OMG I was sooo right about this drama being an emotional wreck. I was left in confusion why the hell I started this drama in the first place. The cinematography was soo good, but the story was all over the place. The FL got on my nerves whenever she was on camera. She was rather pathetic. And the ML was cocky manipulating sadistic b**tard. I'm beyond irritated. This is probably THE MOST artistic trashy disastrous kdrama I ever wasted my time on.
Ngl OSTs were good tho 😒
You're welcome XOXO
Fame is when ordinary becomes luxury. It comes with consequences...
This is a story of a fan and her idol proving his innocence. Sounds simple, but not easy to prove as the murder happened in the idol's house. There starts the push and pull game of faith, fate and resilience. As a kpop fan myself, it was hard to watch. Idols and fans are inseparable items. Both of them exist for and because of each other. But if one of them crosses the line, everything falls down. It made me wonder how my favourite idols go through their lives. Do they face these types of problems, backlash, humiliation, and negative thoughts every day? I bet they do. In spite of that, they put on a happy mask in front of us. Idol life isn't easy.
Call me weird, strange or crazy, but I liked Laik's vulnerable side, especially when he cried.
Unlike everyone, Laik expressed his deepest emotions and feelings very clearly. Maybe because he was portrayed as a psychologically struggling person, he was aware of his mental struggles and never shied away from articulating them in words. His crying face is painful for me as I found myself moved by them. He looked pretty and pitiful and at the same time.
He was thinking that he'd be protecting others, but he was the one who needed to be saved. Initially, we saw him behaving rudely to staff and band members, but we didn't know why he was acting that way. Idol's life isn't easy, his every move is constantly scrutinised and judged by people without any explanation, even if it wasn't their fault. How unfair is that?
This drama isn't perfect, it has its flaws, but one thing I know, I loved it for what it is. It wasn't a romcom, murder mystery or a full-fledged law drama, but the mix of everything that held its essence till the end. It keeps you guessing and suspecting possible murderers before the police. I loved how it wasn't romance focused because it wasn't. It was a journey of Laik proving his innocence, finding and loving himself once again. Without Maeng Sena it wasn't possible. She was the trust he needed to peddle himself back to his own identity as a person, Laik. Also, I loved how the romance wasn't forced, it was naturally flowy and slow but powerful. If you think it isn't romance-focused, the mystery ends in Ep. 11, and you get a whole episode of them being lovey-dovey. They made up the audience's hope for every single missed opportunity for romance. It was more than enough for me.
Acting was great! Personally I'm a fan of Choi Soo Young, also the reason I started this drama. But oh boy, got bamboozled by Kim Jae Young's superb acting and his handsome face. I could stare at his face for HOURS!!! Side characters, especially the ex-gf, bandmate's emotional acting was notable. The OSTs were nice, did created a whole idol vibe but nothing really stand out for me.
Overall, a worthy, entertaining drama if you are interested in watching something not very romance-focused.
When Speed left the chat, love is what left to pump the gear
The story is simple AF. It's about two homosapiens who are not a blood-related brother-sister duo but were raised like one. But as the dramaland suggests, "no way male and female can be friends." This also applies to "not blood-related, so brother, who? Sister who?" this followed the same path as you can imagine it should. The FL is your typical grown ass woman acting like a child 24/7 and the ML who's as same age (technically younger) as the actress plays a older brother role who miraculously look same aged to me but the screenwriters refused to think otherwise. FL can't do shit, not a single thing (oh she can talk back and trick people haha) but ML is her knight in shinning armor. He can cook, race, wrestle, take care of children and doesn't complain a thing! What a wonderful pushover material for FL. The way he pampers her, fr it makes me jealous lol.
Basically, you know what's going to happen from the beginning, but you still watch it for the fluttering interactions, thrilling lovefest and pretty cinematography. But if you ask me, honestly, it was such a snooze fest, full of clichés and no depth. Other than the two big Cs, i.e. Cinematography and Chemistry, it's basically an empty expensive water bottle. Most of the storyline is filler, the rest of the story could have finished within 10–12 episodes, but no, they dragged it to 29 damn episodes. Not worth the hassle. And last but not the least, people might find it charming, but I find MLs who act tough, hiding all the pain, ghost the FL and says "it's better for you this way" REALLY ANNOYING! So the whole nonsensical crap was just testing my patience, but thanks to their chemistry and He Yu, I made it to the end.
Acting wise, He Yu's acting was good, very convincing and professional. Esther Yu was...not bad but not good either. Personally, I find her baby voice, cute acting very annoying. But when she "acts" like an adult it feels natural, which means she can. So there's something definitely wrong with the cutesy act. Hope she realizes and changes it soon.
Overall, surely give it a try. If you love stunning cinematography, fluff and mainly grumpy ML x sunshine FL type of dramas, then this could be your favorite thing. Also if you like He Yu a little too much like me, hehe! ><
I want to kill you, but can I live without you?
A dark Yakuza romance that hit me with a wave of emotions that I had never felt before. As an admirer of unconventional Yakuza/Gangster romance previously, I've read my fair share of novels, mangas and manhwas. Most of them amazed me with their intriguing storytelling, but I had yet to meet the drama of my imagination and THIS WAS IT. My words are not enough to describe how I feel about this drama.
✧ Storyline:
Just like any other Yakuza dramas, this had one traumatic unforgettable night and a deadly fling with a warm fire lantern. When the past haunted him, the lantern gave him light and warmth which kept him safe and sane.
✧ Acting:
The actors who played Kataoka, Odajima and Kairii, did a brilliant job of portraying the characters who felt like they jumped out of the manga, so alive and real. There's one thing that kept me going through was the constant tension between the two leads. I never mentioned this in any reviews, but I have to admit, it was the best JBL kiss I've ever seen. Best in terms of what? Delivering emotions. I've never felt emotional watching a kissing scene. Indeed, I was. So beautiful!
✧ Cinematography:
The best. The colour grading, dark and yellow tones created a lot of tension in serious situations. The camera angles and lighting added depth to the characters. There were many scenes where the screen was closely dark and yet the character's emotions were portrayed skillfully.
✧Music:
My love for the OST, Tsurezure, knows no bounds. From the moment I heard it for the first time as the intro, I was sold. It's been playing on repeat with my other fav OSTs of the year. Just fabulous! Other than the OST, the melancholic music pulled my heartstrings. It was sad yet so soulful.
✵ Honestly, I had no idea about the release of this drama, so I started watching it only knowing the fact it was a Yakuza romance and that's all I needed to know. I was blown away by the contrast between the light and dark aura of the characters and the storyline. In every episode, I felt that "pang" in my chest, hands covering my mouth in awe, disbelief and also there were several instances where I could hear those thumping heartbeats in my ears echoing. Altogether, the angst had me in the palm of their hands, gripping, choking, and I let them torture my heart willingly. My heart ached for Odajima. His eyes, his heart, how empty and traumatized it was that he never lived for himself. That scar of survival bears deep wounds that never healed fully until Kataoka opened the wound and let it heal slowly. Kataoka was the missing piece of Odajima's life he didn't look for, and yet he became the most important person he'd live for. Their storyline deeply moved me. Definitely going to rewatch and binge this soon.
Overall, it was an awesome experience watching my manga faves alive. They needed no publicity or anything, but unexpectedly, this proved to be one of my greatest BLs of the year 2025. If you are interested in torturing your heart with the prickly thorns of BL Yakuza romance, then sure you will not be disappointed.
A Dark and Passionate Tale of Forbidden Love
*I have invested 5 years of my life to read this manhwa while it was airing, from start to finish. So my review will be comparative in nature without spoiling the important bits*This was one of those manhwas that made me go from "what the hell did I get myself into?!" to "Well, that was HELL of an infuriating ride... but DAMN, that was a satisfying ending! I kinda like it :p". By the record, this was my first ever red flag manhwa that shaped me into this 'toxic love" addicted creature. It was an anxious read, problematic and dubious af, which was obviously not at all comforting to read but, oh, I live for those angsty crumbs.
Now about the drama; honestly and first of all, I was quite doubtful about this adaptation because of its problematic nature, and how they're supposed to showcase such things in the media. But after watching I can say they toned it down A LOT! And I think it's for the better to make it watchable on screen. Omitting the gruesome portrayal of abuse and sufferings was needed because it's not for this type of format. Some things are better if they stay hidden in the closed folds of paper. The content is HUGE and so summing them up within 2 hrs is pretty much commendable. There are no boring moments. So you're are presented a angsty romance with lots of twists and turns!
My only problem is the vertical format. This format doesn't really allow the storylines to delve deeper. But I'm quite happy and satisfied with this adaptation and I must admit that.
Character wise, in the manhwa and drama, Nakyum is still lovely, lively and full of warmth, but it's Seungho who had a great character change in terms of its source material. Here Seung Ho is more humane than he is shown in the manhwa. Those sharp brush strokes, cold, cynical blazing gaze says that his character is basically emotionless, crazy and tyrant. But in the live adaptation, just because it's a real person acting, his character felt way more humane, soft and loveable than he was there, which I quite liked.
The actors did a wonderful job! Each and every character was promising, and they gave their best. The direction was also well done, as it literally made me see those still panels coming back to life as if I was reliving the manhwa in front of my eyes. It's one of those manhwas that I'd be uncomfortable/ embarassed to read in public and honestly, I didn't and don't expect to see those level of smutty illustrations in this short vertical format. Kisses were so-so, could have been better, intimate scenes were quite bland, but in this short time not everything could be done as per our taste. Also, there were quite a few changes in this, but not that evident enough to see if one doesn't know what's in the manhwa.
Overall, I liked it inspite of my initial concerns as the adaptation followed the manhwa very, very well!
P.S: Here linking my feeds post in the comments for those who wants to see the pictorial similarities in the manhwa and the drama.
