Honestly, idk why others are so critical 😠it's so good and I say this as a court-drama-non-fan (I like historical…
I guess, it's just their standards... I am on ep.26 right now and so far the story seems just right for me. Even the amnesia plot—which i thought would spoil my mood—was so far delivered nicely.
Thank you so much for this review! In a sea of rants and negative reviews I find yours. I have been pushing this to the back of my list for quite a while now, so I am really glad to have read your review. =)
I feel the same way regarding the world building—it wasn't touch upon that much. + The highly anticipated climax simmered down to an underwhelming conclusion...
P.S. I never knew MDL had a 10,000-character limit for their reviews! I apparently exceeded that, which forced me to chop and remove 4–6 paragraphs from it.
That said, I have decided to just put it here! Haha!
This explains why my absolute favorite and most satisfying moments involving the 1st branch are the ones where they suffer. First, when the eldest son (Lian Shouren) was beaten up in Episode 23, which caused him to go crazy. Second, in Episode 24, seeing them living humbly and struggling in an abandoned house in the suburbs. It was well-deserved for a truly despicable family. I was even mad that they didn't perish completely. Lol
A good summary of the scenes which rendered the FL indecisive and in a sense, reckless.
• First (Ep. 24): Leaving the mine entrance. Lian Man'er should have been extra cautious, but instead, she hastily ran away, resulting in her being spotted by the enemy (Song Haikun himself). I totally understand the urgency, but given how high the stakes were, she should have known that even a tiny mistake could result in a massive catastrophe.
• Second (Ep. 24): The hesitation. When Thirteen (Shi San) tells Lian Man'er to escape and get help, she just keeps hesitating, which ultimately causes her to get captured instead. *sighs*
• Third (Ep. 25): The freezing phenomenon. When Shen Nuo was actively being strangled and was on the brink of death, instead of immediately jumping in to help, Lian Man'er just stood there in a daze—confused and hesitating.
• Fourth (Ep. 25): The delayed backup. The late arrival of the reinforcements during the confrontation between Shen Nuo and Wu Zhonglian makes zero sense. This was a combined force of the highly skilled Wude Bureau led by Shi San and the mountain bandits led by Liu Heizi. No one can convince me that it should have taken a force of that size so long to handle the enemies—especially since Liu Heizi was only a meter away from Wu Zhonglian at the time. Geez!
I am glad my review was able to influence your view of this show. Thank you as well for reading my lengthy commentary.…
Hua Biao and Wu Xie defines his entire youth for me—cool and extremely charming. I haven't watch I Am Nobody yet since I've been into Costume dramas since I don't know when and seldom watch modern dramas. 😅 Yes, I'm into Xianxia and I'm actually planning to watch it next. Neo hasn't disappointed me in any way ever since, so, I am quite sure I'm gonna enjoy it.
What a comprehensive review! I really liked how you mentioned specific points that made me rethink how I viewed…
I am glad my review was able to influence your view of this show. Thank you as well for reading my lengthy commentary. Neo Hou is just one of a kind. His charisma and appeal has made an imprint in me ever since I watched him on WWWY. I haven't watched Love in the clouds yet but it is on my piling list of cdramas to watch. 😅
Ikr! The character is so inconsistent! At least you managed to get to ep20. I can’t even force myself to continue…
I guess I’m just not fond of leaving things unfinished. As a result, it almost always brings me nothing but frustration. But hey, some dramas actually do make up for their flaws by the end! 😅
I’m fine with the qualities you mentioned as long as the characters strive to be better. (A couple of great examples are Li Leyan from The Long Ballad and Princess Yangying from A Journey to Love). However, they seldom do, so it often gets really upsetting.

I am just never the type to drop a drama, no matter how trashy it may get. 😅
Aside from the constant make-out scenes—which grossed me out the second time I watched it. What I am most irritated about is how complacent she was when they're literally being hunted down while Sima Jiao's gravely injured. You'd think she'll mature and start to work on herself, but, nope, she just never did.
Also, she 'presumably' died on ep.20 after the again, defensive magical necklace failed to protect her and the preview for ep.21 shows that she got an amnesia. The Effin overused trope is that.
It's really a wonderful decision that you dropped it sooner. I still have 33 more episodes to cringe on. Smh Hahaha!
Your review is spot on! I'm in EP.20 right now after bearing through the unbearable 18th episode, and God knows of how much tolerance I had to exert just to go passed that. FL was fine during the first 10 episodes, not until she started becoming increasingly willful after her relationship full developed with Sima Jiao. I find it completely ridiculous that she failed to be rational in differentiating the cause of effect of to kill vs to get killed, when all she's been mumbling about is to LIVE.
I can totally relate with your feedback. I can't comprehend how audacious the female lead is. I dealt with it by thinking that she may be looking down on the emperor because she's thinking that he's a puppet of the eunuch, however It's clear that she has respect for him so i don't know now how I can justify her actions.
I'm in Ep.36 right now and I went back here to read some insights aligned to mine. You hit the mark in all aspects. This drama was unnecessarily prolonged. The plot would've been fine if they allowed the characters to move forward with whatever their goal is without going in a loop of events. I can't even enjoy the love story at this point. /Sighs/

Also, am I the only one bothered by Bao Jian Feng's acting? His facial expression, for some unknown reason, irks my nerves. 🫩
