imo the story is kinda ass but the actors are making it so good especially ML
The whole thing is really "blah", just not interesting at all so far (I've only just finished Ep 1 though...). Performances are great, but if it hasn't picked up after Ep 2, I'll likely drop it.

Well ratings aren't reliable untill the drama ends to be honest..right now some are rating some are not while…
Idiots will downgrade a drama simply because they don't like one of the actors. You can't fix stupid, or mean and nasty. Just ignore it. :)

Why isn't its rating going up ?? 8.1 is good but not something great so is this drama really not anything great??…
NEVER rely on MDL ratings to see if a drama is good or not. So many people on here downrate for the stupidest of reasons. Or downrate it when they haven't even watched it just because they don't like an actor/director/plot they've read about on social media etc.

Watch the first episode yourself to decide (it's doing phenomenally well in Korea, btw).

And yep, it's exceptionally good so far. (Only 2 episodes in, but thrilled with everything about it so far).

Title Past Lives
Fun Fact ..... Choi Woo Shik was initially offered the role as the male lead but later withdrew ... Yoo Teo replaced…
I rarely use the word 'underrated', but Teo Yoo has to be one of the most underrated actors of his generation.

It took him a long time to get much recognition, but he finally grabbed it with his main role in Love to Hate You, in which he was superb and, since then, he's become a bit of an 'It' kind of guy.

Thrilled to see him get the BAFTA nomination, as it means more attention on him and, hopefully, many more great roles to sink his teeth into.

Love him as a person too. He seems so grounded, and so sure of what he wants. Hell, he met his now-wife, who is 12 years older than him and who he's been married to for 17 years, and knew within 2 weeks he was going to marry her. Never wavered from it, still loves her with a deep rooted passion he'll never lose.

Loved what he said when asked "What is happiness to you?", he answered "Watching Nikki make coffee in the morning".

(Sorry, this is my website, and I don't normally promote it on here, but I said a lot more about him that I still believe in this article ... :)

https://leosigh.com/teo-yoo-speaks-4-languages-and-knew-within-2-weeks-of-meeting-his-wife-he-would-marry-her-video/

And btw, Past Lives is one of the best films of last year. Easily in my Top 5. His performance in it is stunning -- as it's just so quiet and so real.

It Deserves a higher rating. Definitely a stand out!
Don't understand the rating at all. A solid 10 from me as I haven't enjoyed a drama this much in a long time (still 20 episodes to go, and savoring it as long as I can :)

To the new people leaving raw reaction reviews crying about the drama not making sense after quickly binging it…
I don't understand anyone being confused by the story? It's pretty easy to understand.

Sure, some of the first episode take place in the future, and then we get a massive flashback for the next at least 18 episodes (sorry, that's as far as I've watched so far, so I don't know when the story reverts back to the first scenes from Episode 1), but watch it instead of scrolling through your phone at the same time, and you might understand it :)

I think the problem nowadays, is so many especially younger people don't expect to have to think when they watch a drama or film, and critical thinking skills are collapsing among college age students anyway (just read a long article about that) so, if it requires more than 3 brain cells and watching out of the corner of their eye while endlessly scrolling social media it's "waaaah, waaaah, waaaah".

Personally, this is one of the best, most beautifully filmed and written, most superbly acted, most entertaining, interesting and thought-provoking dramas I've watched in a long time.

Will be sad when I finally get to Episode 40 as it has been superb in every possible way.

I get that, I had the same problem at the start. I recommend watching the animated version (Mo Dao Zu shi) it…
I'm definitely going back to it.

The problem is, I made the mistake of starting The Longest Promise, and am obsessed with that now :) Have 23 episodes of that to finish, then I'll be back to The Untamed, and will watch the first 13 episodes again before watching the rest. I have a feeling, now I've gotten more into Chinese dramas, I'll probably enjoy it a lot more.

Meanwhile, I am now the proud owner of all the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation novels, including the Special Edition of Volume 5, with all its lovely extras. So, i apparently like the story :)

FL's face look too sad for a romcom. But who hires a fake bff to pretend in front of her husband?
Relatively common in South Korea and Japan.

Finally someone who agrees that FL was NOT at fault in this drama. I stopped reading comments in this section…
The fandom is often toxic both for the C-dramas and the K-dramas. Sad little people with sad little lives, IMO, as they spread so much hate. The actors themselves must detest them privately.

She's absolutely beautiful, and perfect in the role. And you're kind of toxic.

tencent advertising certified that tencent video platform has three hit dramas this year and The Longest Promise…
One of the reasons I watched it too was the low rating and, no, I'm not remotely disappointed. It's one of the best dramas I've watched in a long time -- superb performances, fascinating story, absolutely gorgeous sets, costumes and cinematography. Enjoying this one immensely :)

If you have nothing nice to say, just shut up. No matter how much you and every stupid like you make rumors, he…
One of best of today's Korean actors. Have enjoyed every one of his performances. What's funny though is these losers wasting their lives leaving nasty comments under Anonymous names all over the Internet (don't even have the balls to comment under their real names!) seem to think Korean production teams listen to them. Hahahaha.

16-17 is where you'll either get hooked or give up. (Don't you want to see WWX going from bratty but well-liked…
I've actually paused this on Episode 13 and moved onto finishing Korean dramas I haven't yet finished. But... I plan on picking it up again and finishing it as soon as I've finished the 5 other dramas I'm in the middle of as, apparently, I like The Untamed more than I thought as I can't stop thinking about it :) )Obsessed with the soundtrack music too :)

Thanks for the suggestion though. You're correct - there are tons of superb looking Chinese dramas, I keep adding them to my 'to watch' list on Netflix and other platforms now :)

I wonder why KBS as well as the other platforms don't have more engagement for this. I think I only saw 1, maybe…
Viki is abysmal at promoting their dramas. KOCOWA does a great job with trailers, snippets etc. Viki acts like most of their dramas don't exist. Half the time, you can't even find a trailer for a drama on Viki's YouTube channel. They either need to pay their social media person more or, hire one if they don't have one :) as they must lose a lot of business via social media.

Meanwhile, KBS seems to pick one or two dramas and promote the hell out of them. Then ignore the rest :)

Look at their daily dramas or Korea Khitan War. Can't go to their YT channel without another video popping up every 10 minutes, but if you want to see what happened on Love Song, forget it. :(

We really need a down vote on MDL. So damned tired of people whittering on about "age gaps".
People think that, but in my experience it's not though. I lived in Asia for almost 15 years (3 countries) and knew several people where the wife or husband was quite a bit older. Nobody cared or treated them any differently, as long as their relationship was a good one.

Families also rarely cared, especially if the man was the older one, as he was often more established in his career than the woman so, in their minds, would "take care of her" better. (NOT that the wife usually needed taking care of :) )

I think on MDL it's usually very young people who complain about "the age gap" because they have little or no experience with relationships themselves. Shows a lack of maturity, IMO, and is highly annoying when it appears on any drama where the couple has a more than 2 year age difference. Especially when it has no baring on the story at all.

Ah, thanks for the info. And I didn't know it was a web drama, so that does make more sense that the FX is so low-budget :)

And I'm just disappointed that I really enjoyed the first 10 episodes or so but have felt the last three really, really, really drag, to the point that I'm watching it on double speed and still continually stopping it to do something else.

I can't figure out why either, as I like every single character (they're beautifully written and all of them have their captivating quirks), but for some reason the drama is not holding my attention.

I'll get through Episode 17 then, and then let you know if it's a continue or a drop :)

Like I said, really wanted to love this as so many people do, and I loved the Mo Dao Zu Shi donghua (I've ordered the first volume of the book too, which should be delivered today :) ), but the last three Eps of the drama are not holding my attention at all.

Oh and I think for Xuan Lu (sorry, I mistakenly used her character name) her habit of pausing for a long time before she says almost anything is what I find the most annoying.

Will give it a good go over the next 4 episodes though, and let you know how it pans out :)

BTW, this is my first ever Chinese drama (I've seen more Korean, Japanese and Thai than I care to remember, but never watched a Chinese drama before, so that may have something to do with it).

Anyway, onwards and upwards and, fingers crossed, it will re-grab my attention as I greedily gobbled up the first 10 episodes :) )Oh and Xiao Zan and Wang Yi Bo's performances are definitely a reason to watch this -- superb. Especially Xiao Zan -- easy to see why he won awards for this).

Beginning to loath this.
Loved the first 10 episodes, bored stiff through the last 3 as the story drags so much and the acting gets worse by the episode. (Jiang Yan Li, by the way, is probably the worst Asian actress I've seen in any drama -- simply cannot act).

And don't get me started on the "special effects". :) Really wanted to love it as so many people do, and will struggle through another three or four more eps, but if it doesn't improve, it's a drop for me sadly.
