He did let go of his lingering attachments toward Ning An and now only focuses on his feelings for Xiao Yao. The plot gets better as we watch on, which not only focuses on their love story, but also the character development of our female lead, as well as Bing Zhu. I'm guessing that we'll understand more about our Demon King and his initial actions after watching Hong Ye's diverse personalities across different lifetimes, which we're bound to watch later on. Hopefully, the plot won't confuse us~ X3

I think she was planning to use the power of the heart crystal, but is controlled by Dreamshard Immortal's remaining power inside it.. Or, she channelled her powers into that heart crystal to take over the role of "Exalted Immortal" in place of ZLY's character, and meet the Emperor through a dream... (Assumptions~ ^^)

Or we can also look at it this way: Hong Ye has never actually fallen out of love, even after everything he went through. He was asleep for 100 years, but if he only felt like those 100 years were just like yesterday~ And he probably has a soft spot for Xiao Yao, cuz she looks exactly like Ning An. It's my little opinion from a positive outlook~ ^^
